DEAR LITTLE CHAPEL ON THE BOARDWALK FAMILY, What if it was never meant to be like this? What if we got it wrong? What if Christ never came to earth to inspire cathedrals or cantatas or crusades? Think what the past 2,000 plus years might have been like if Christianity was mostly a private way of life instead of a public declaration. Imagine what would have happened if Christians through the ages placed more emphasis on Christ's exhortations about lifestyle and reverence than conversion and proclamation. Where would we be today if Christians had spent all their energy on living life as Christ did instead of telling others about him and his way of living? But maybe we were never meant to appeal to the masses or Christianize nations or fight for the right to pray at football games. Perhaps we were supposed to live a quiet life of witness and never impose it on others. There is plenty of evidence that Christ might have actually had that in mind when he came. After all, his public preaching was minimal and the Bible is full of stories of him spending time with seemingly insignificant people. He never sugarcoated the implications of belief. He offered plenty of evidence that following him would result in suffering and even death. Nowhere in his teaching did he even hint at a life of worldly success and prosperity. So what are we supposed to do? What if it was never meant to be like this? What if Christians had spent the last 2000 plus years quietly worshipping, reverently following, simply obeying the words of Christ? What if our only witness had been our deeds and our only words had been ones of caution? What if we followed Jesus so closely that we were daily struck dumb in awe? What if we never told another person about the love, grace and mercy of God? What if… Just something to think about. CHANCEL CHOIR KICK-OFF A SUCCESSS

This past September 3rd, the Chancel Choir gath-ered for their potluck kick-off at the manse. Lots and lots of food, drink and fellowship were enjoyed by the choir and their spouses. It was a perfect evening with a brief rehearsal after dinner. Many thanks to Pat and Marcia Rabun for opening up their home and hosting the Choir.

WELCOME NEW CHANCEL CHOIR

MEMBERS

It is always a blessing to welcome new members to the Chancel Choir. Joining us this fall are

Sally Fay Dibble and

Carolyn and Robin Wetherington. Welcome!

Sally Fay (soprano) has sung in choirs since junior choir. She comes to us from Florida, where she has a home that she will sell soon. Sally has an interest-ing story to share. She and her first husband (now deceased) of 57 years were “couple friends” with another couple for over 50 years. Last May 16th she married David Dibble (of the “couple friends”) af-ter his first wife passed away. Interestingly, Sally had sung with David’s first wife in a choir in North Sy-racuse, New York. Both Sally and David had been care-givers to their first mates and they now live happily in Porters Neck. Carolyn (soprano) and Robin (bass) Wetherington are native North Carolinians. They have lived in Wilmington for the past 9 years. They enjoy boat-ing, camping, gardening and traveling and they LOVE to sing church music! Carolyn teaches pri-vate voice and piano and Robin is Safety Manager of International Paper in Rieglewood.

♥Please give a warm LCOB welcome to our new faces in the choir.♥

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

After a sparkling Fall Gathering where we reconnected amid a beautifully calming theme of water, the Circles will gather this month to begin our journey through the stories in the Bible about water and the role these wa-ters have played in our Christian history. Our first story is the story of birth and creation, of the goodness that came from chaos and the sweetness of rest. Circle 1 will meet on October 5 at 10:30AM at Bertha Martin's, Circle 2 will gather on October 6 at 10AM in Room 102 at Little Chapel, Circle 3 will come together on October 6 at 7:30PM at Estelle Baker's and Circle 4 will convene on October 6 at 10AM at Ada Legg's. Y'all come! Now this may sound like I'm jumping the gun a bit but I've got Christmas on my mind. No, I'm not making my shopping, baking, decorating and address lists. I'm wondering if we will be able to continue the beauti-ful tradition of delivering a hot lovingly cooked meal and a gift to dozens of our neighbors who are alone on Christmas Day. Two amazing, wise, caring and busy women, Jean Schild and Shirley Gearhart, have led the effort for many years and have decided it is time to pass the turkey basters to someone else. But who? Jim and I have served on the delivery team over the years and one year when we rang the doorbell, the smile that lit the face of the lady who answered the bell was one of joy. When she saw the label on the meal cover, she told us, "Oh, I'm so glad you're here! The dinner Little Chapel brings me every Christmas Day is the best one of the year!" Is it really the dinner that she awaits or is it the embodiment of The Gift that we bring with us? The Gift of loving care for others is as important as the meal. Too often in our community when we ring that door-bell to deliver the dinner and gift and are invited inside we notice that there is no sign of The Gift of Christmas inside. It has long been a mission of the Little Chapel to not only bring a hot meal and a gift to the lonely on Christmas Day, but also The Gift. The bells of Christmas are a joyous sound! Are you one of the two amazing, wise and caring people needed to make them ring at homes all over our community this

Christmas Day? Dru

HARMONY BELLES

will be our program for

Wednesday Night on the Boardwalk

October 21. The evening will begin at 6:00PM with a pot luck dinner in the fellowship hall followed by the con-cert at 7:00PM in the sanctuary. Admission is free but we will be taking up a Love Offering. The Harmony Belles, under the direction of Suzy Schmitt, are a small, women's 4-part harmony group that sings a cappella and whose main purpose for exist-ence is to do community service. The group was formed in 1986 and has celebrated 29 years of performing in New Hanover and surrounding counties. Our mini-productions have been shared in nursing homes, assist-ed living residences, church organizations, non-profits, conventions and in various other venues throughout the year. Our hobby has put us in front of many types of audiences, and we're proud to include in our resume appearances honoring our veterans during Memorial Day observances and the annual "Massing of the Col-ors" on Veteran's Day. We continue to enjoy our com-munity involvement as we gear up for the busy holiday season. The members come from a wide area including Kure Beach, Southport, and Hampstead. Each woman in the group brings her own special talent to the group which results not only in tight vocal har-monies, but also in a unique closely-knit sisterhood. The Harmony Belles look forward to performing for you. We not only love to sing, but think of our hobby as our ministry. For interest in becoming a member or engaging us for future performances, please call 799-5850.

2ND LOAF Little Chapel on the Boardwalk completed our 15th year of supporting 2nd Loaf and the Good Shepherd Center. THANK YOU for supporting this ministry and helping to feed our hungry neighbors in Wilmington. A special “thank you” to the following groups and individuals that provided time on Saturday mornings or were drivers on Monday mornings. Most of the people dropping off food said “thank you” to Little Chapel for our efforts. For the month of June, thank you to Freddye Ledford, Brenda Parker, Joyce Zimmerman, Barbara Williams, Mary & Pat Roche, Gary Kohunsky, and Andy Marhevsky. The Pathfinders, bible study group volunteered to take the month of July, both for collection of food and drivers. Thank you to Anne Tucker Janice & Rueben Allen, Lisa & Hunter Jordon, Gene & Janet Auvil, Sylvia Robinson, John Moore, Bob Avent, and a special thanks to Barbara Tyndall as team leader. Members of the church volunteered for 2nd Loaf in Au-gust. Thank you to Freddye Ledford (twice), Peggy Gen-try, Marjorie Cartier, Jane Hughes, Romi & Rick Wheeler, Ada & Jim Legg, Susan Long (twice), Nancy & Cos Cosby, and Sharon Minor. In addition, Wrightsville United Methodist Church/Wrightsville Baptist Church assisted by bringing a station wagon full of food in July. It was mighty neighborly of them and we appreciate their help. Reverend Rabun assisted on most mornings, Ann Martz assisted several times during the summer, and Martha Par-ker provided considerable assistance with flyers and com-munications. Thank you. This has been a great way to help a wonderful ministry for Little Chapel and we look forward to the summer of 2016.

I want to express my gratitude to all the members of Little Chapel and your ministry Committee for donat-ing such a generous offering to the Tileston Outreach. With it we will be able to assist several families with their utility bills so their lights and water won’t be truned off. That is such a caring gift to them. Also, your Presbytery once again gave us finances for our homeless pantry.

Blessings, peace and prayers, S. M. Isaac

EXTERIOR LOCKS CHANGED

Following a unanimous recommendation from the Ses-sion the property committee of Little Chapel has had all the exterior locks on the church changed. It was felt that it had been too long since this had taken place and with the beginning of our Preschool and the many other activities going on in the life of the church it was time to change the locks and reissue keys. We are also imple-menting a new policy in that if you need a key for some reason that you will be required to come into the church office and check one out and then return it upon the completion of your activity or program. ~ Property Committee of Little Chapel

Just a refresher course in case you have forgotten…

What exactly is Stephen Ministry? Stephen ministry is a ministry in our congregation in which trained and supervised lay persons provide one-to-one Christian care to individuals facing life challeng-es or difficulties. What do Stephen Ministers do? Stephen Ministers aare caring Christian friends who lis-ten, understend, accept and pray for and with care-receivers who working through a crisis or a tough time. Stephen Ministers are not counselors; they are trained lay care givers. Their role is to listen and care—not to give advice or counsel. Can I trust a Stephen Minister? Trust is essential to a caring relationship, and Stephen Ministers are people you can trust. Confidentially is one of the most important principles of Stephen Ministry, and what a care-receiver tells his or her Stephen Minis-ter is kept in strict confidence,

If you might appreciate a Stephen Minister to be by your side,
