Dear Parents/Carers WOW what a term it has been! A time the Education system has never seen before and here we are hopefully on the other side of it. The students, teacher and parents still amazing and united together. To say I am proud of our beautiful little school is a massive understatement! Class of the week – Banksia

Students in Banksia have been working very hard since returning back to school this term. They have continued with their unit of work 'Museums in Motion' and have made some amazing dioramas reflecting important events in Australia’s colonial history. We hope you enjoy the photos of our creative works.

30 June 2020 Term 2 Week 10

Student drop off and collection arrangements for Term 3 For the past few weeks we have allowed parents/carers to pick up their child from 2:45pm each afternoon. This staggered pickup will end on Friday 3 July, meaning that this week will be the last week. From the beginning of Term 3 student pickup will recommence at 3:15pm each afternoon. ‘Kiss and Drop’, both morning and afternoon, will continue until restrictions have been completely lifted. It has been great to see the effectiveness of this initiative in ensuring the safety of all school members. The return to the 3.15pm pick up time will create additional congestion on Mount Keira Road so please be patient. It is important that you do not stop and get out of your car during pickup or arrive early and park in the ‘Kiss and Drop’ zone. If your children are able to walk home please allow them to do so as this will reduce congestion considerably. If your child is walking home please do not come to the school to collect their bags. Please refer to the brochure at the end of this newsletter for tips on how to keep your children safe when they are walking to and from school. If you are walking up to meet your children please practise social distancing if you meet other parents.

30 June 2020 Term 2 Week 10

Late arrival at school It is disappointing to see the number of students who are arriving at school late each day. Arriving late to school means that students miss out on play time, time to socialise with their friends and the important instructions from teachers that take place at the start of the day. Please take the time to prepare the night before to ensure uniforms, school bags, homework and lunches are ready to go in the mornings. All children must present at the office if they are running late as rolls are marked at 9.15am each day. Parents must either accompany their children or provide a written note explaining their child’s absence. Running late or slept in are not justified absences and are marked as this on the student’s attendance records. Please work with us to ensure your child is at school on time each day so that they can get the most out of every school day. Reports Teachers have been very busy writing the Semester 1 reports. It is wonderful to read about all the learning that has been happening. Semester 1 reports will go home on Wednesday 1 July. These reports are a point in time document that reflects the learning and achievement of students during Term 1 and 2 2020. Our reports this semester are a simplified version due to our recent pandemic however please sit with your child and discuss their report with them. Celebrate your child’s success and set goals for Semester 2. If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, please contact your child’s classroom teacher to make a telephone appointment to discuss the report further. P and C meeting Our P&C meeting will be held tonight, Tuesday 30 June at 7pm. This will be via the Zoom meeting application to ensure social distancing measures are adhered to therefore being able to take place in the luxury of your own home. Please log on and come along to meet other parents, find out school information and participate in the decision making process as part of the Mount Keira learning community. We welcome all new members and look forward to some new and exciting ideas. The links to the meetings have been sent via Skoolbag. Please contact the school before 3.30pm if you are having trouble accessing. We look forward to seeing you on the other side of the screen. Tell them from me survey Mount Keira Demonstration School will once again be participating in the ‘Tell Them From Me’ survey. This survey allows the school to obtain feedback based on student voice. This student voice was imperative in assisting with school decision making for the 2020 school year and will be utilised in planning our future directions for our new school plan in 2021.

This survey will take place this week. A permission note was sent home last week to students in Years 4, 5 and 6 to OPT OUT of the student survey. If you wish for your child to participate, this form does NOT need to be sent back to school. 100 Days of learning K-2 celebration Wattle and Lilli Pilli will be celebrating 100 days of learning this Thursday 2 July. Students will be involved in fun, hands on Literacy and Numeracy educational learning experiences around the theme of ‘100’. I look forward to seeing the transformation of our Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students this Thursday. Have a safe and relaxing school break. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 21 July as Monday 20 July is a Staff Development Day.

Have a great week! Keep Safe, Keep Smiling Tenae Carroll Principal
