October BirthdaysGet to Know Your Blue Jays!

Troy TulowitzkiOn October 10, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki turned 31 and celebrated his first birthday with the Blue Jays! During his July debut with the Blue Jays, Troy scored three runs and had two doubles, a home run and 3 RBIs.

Jose BautistaOn October 19, right fielder Jose Bautista turned 35. This has been an exciting year for Jose. On April 21, during the game against the Baltimore Orioles, the outfielder hit his 250th career home run. In addition to being an All-Star on the field, Bautista is actively involved in the community and was nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award to recognize his efforts.

Chris ColabelloOn October 24, Chris Colabello will turn 32. This season Chris wowed us with a career-high hitting streak of 17 games. Chris grew up in a household that was familiar with baseball as his dad played baseball in Italy and even pitched in the Olympics!

Josh TholeOn October 28, catcher Jose Thole will be celebrating his 29th birthday! Josh typically matches up with R.A. Dickey to catch his infamous knuckleball pitch. Josh has been with the Blue Jays since 2012 when he was traded in a deal with R.A. Dickey from the New York Mets.

R.A. DickeyOn October 29, starting pitcher R.A. Dickey will be celebrating his 41st birthday! Dickey relies primarily on the knuckleball as his pitch of choice and uses it about 80% of the time. As one of the veterans on the team, R.A. has been a great role model for the younger players on the roster.

Great Momentsof the Regular Season

WOW – those Flying Blue JaysThe regular season has been so entertaining to watch some really amazing defensive plays by our own roster of superheroes. On June 24, third baseman Josh Donaldson had some up-close-and-personal interaction with some fans when he dove into the second row behind third base to make an unbelievable catch.

On April 15, centre fielder Kevin Pillar became airborne in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays when he climbed up the outfield wall to stop what would have been a homerun.

On August 26, Ben Revere showed us why he is known as an elite defender by making a leaping catch at the left-field wall that prevented the Texas Rangers from getting extra bases.

EdWING EncarnacionThis season Edwin Encarnacion had an impressive 26-game hit streak throughout August and early September. During this time he had 11 home runs and 35 RBIs which set a club record for the number of RBIs in a single month. Edwin is now tied with Shannon Stewart (1999) and John Olerud (1993) for the second-longest hit streak in franchise history! It’s no wonder that he was named our Player of the Month for August!

Trade Deadline ShockersAlex Anthopoulos truly did shake up the baseball community when he made some blockbuster trade deals in the week leading up to the July trade deadline. During five days that Blue Jays fans won’t soon forget, the organization acquired Troy Tulowitzki, David Price, Ben Revere, LaTroy Hawkins and Mark Lowe who have each made a big impact to this Blue Jays team.

Clinching the AL East!On Wednesday, September 30, 2015 the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles 15-2, clinching the AL East title for the first time in 22 years. The win guaranteed the team a place in the ALDS and not just a Wild Card spot for 2015 postseason play.

Your Blue Jays

Congratulations!

Halloween Memorieswith Liam Hendriks

Congratulations to 10-year-old Ryan from PEI who was the lucky winner of a Marcus Stroman autographed jersey. Ryan travelled to Toronto in September with his Dad and Grandpa to watch his first live Blue Jays game. He was able to see his favourite player, Josh Donaldson, hit the winning home run in the last home game of the season! He is excited to add his new jersey to his already massive wardrobe of Blue Jays gear.

Did your family have any fun Halloween traditions? In Australia, we don’t really celebrate Halloween. But my mother was a teacher growing up and always put my sister and I in costumes for book week at school!

What was your favourite costume that you dressed up as when you were a kid?My sister and I always dressed up together. I think my favourite was when I was Harry Potter.

Do you have a favourite type of Halloween candy?Freddo Frogs and Caramello Koalas.

What is your favourite scary movie? Scream!

Liam in his Harry Potter costume!
