Peter Martin—skip, James Millhouse—3rd, Patrick Lee—

Ken Hunt playing against Ian Lewis of Taroona had a great tussle in the early stages of the game
and was pretty well even at the break. The team didn’t lose an end after the break & won by 20
shots including an 8 on the 20th end. All rinks were pretty even at the break with Taroona
in front overall by 2 shots. Peter Martin’s team were 9 nil down after first 5 ends & fought back
courageously (played a fantastic game) to go down by one shot 18/19 to Taroona’s Alan Barnes,
great effort. Herman Kroon’s team were challenged early by Jimmy Walker’s team but took the
lead on the 10th end and never looked back finishing the game 10 shots ahead 22/12.
A brilliant effort by all.
Jeff Jackson, Match Manager
Last word from Johnny Walker !! We played 3 weeks without any points due to a bye, then a forfeit through a founda-
tion member’s Keith Tabor death & a loss by 12 and still made the grand final
Several Lady members competed in the recent State Pairs and State Fours
competitions held in the South. Leonie Price, in a team skipped by
Courtney Hobbs and two others from Launceston clubs, successfully com-
pleted the sectional play and went on to the semis and preliminary finals.
Again successful they played the grand final against a Southern team
skipped by Lyn Triffett.
The team had a good win and Leonie is now the very proud owner of
a State Medal.
******************
Leonie Price also won the D.L. Reid singles at Sandy Bay; with a forfeit in the first round she then
defeated: Melanie Jefferts (an all but dead duck after playing 30 ends in the first round) in the 2nd round 25-12
after 22 ends; Debbie Lee in the semi final 28-8; and Gay Coleman in the final 25-21. An excellent game with
the scores level till Leonie drew 4 shots on the kitty to win.
Well done Leonie. Carleen Crane, Vice President

Division 3 had a very convincing win over Cygnet at Huonville and did well to defeat Cremorne in the prelimi-
nary final but the final was a terrible day, raining with strong wind gusts and it’s doubtful anyone wanted to
play in those conditions however without an ‘official’ Leonie Price started the game at the request of Div 5 Tas-
man who did not want their return home to be late! Special thanks to the supporters who braved those ele-
ments and did their best to lift Div 3 to a win but it was not to be. Stephanie Green was forced to retire at the
break due to ill health. It was a top achievement by all players to be in the grand final.
Division 4; St Johns Park 56 d Glenorchy RSL 31
Division 5; Howrah (W) 53 d Tasman 50
The Kingborough Ladies Division 5 also played in the Southern Pennant Finals having a good win over Cygnet in the
semi-finals at Howrah but unfortunately losing to Howrah White in the preliminary final at Buckingham.
Well done to all the divisions playing in the finals this year, hoping for better re-
sults next season.

Catering Report: 22nd April Rotary Night will be a big one as they have 2 other clubs attending, have arranged for an
extra pair of hands in the kitchen, it will be 2 course dinner. We have a self cater BBQ on Saturday 30th march, also a
self cater wedding on 6th April, approx 130 guests. The cocktail party for sponsors will be on 18th April, last year’s was
very successful. Only Rotary dinners up till AGM at this stage, enjoying the (relative) quiet. Provider Elaine.
The Ladies End of Pennant Dinner was a great
success and enjoyed by all. The tables were perfectly
set, the meal delivered hot and fast and the food was
great. Our MC Tony Scott did a superb job and had us
in stitches in between courses. Jim Howell, with superb
timing, sang and left us all feeling as innocent as babes.
Next Di Willett, with Yvonne Fogarty’s assistance issued
us all with ’old age pills’ to cover all sorts of necessities
and when the red pill to cover sex was explained and someone asked what sex was, she was smartly advised to take the
green pill for forgetfulness. A very big thankyou to Norma Lovell who, as always, did a great job of kick starting the idea
and to the guys who made it happen: Tony Scott, Jim Howell, Craig Griggs, Bill Wolfe, Bill Reeve, Bob Smith, Graham
Fogarty, Nick Harris & Fred Shead. Easter raffle was drawn by Carleen Crane & won by Tony Scott.
Correction on Winter Coaching (Editor’s fault & thanks Hilary
Bennetto for the correction)
Winter coaching will be available at Beltana the 1st Sunday of each
month starting in May: Men 9:00am—12:00; Ladies 12:00 - 3:00pm
The Ladies Division 1 team played in the Southern Pennant Finals and won their semi-final game against Rosny Red.
Norma Lovell’s rink was down by 7 shots and Shirley Maraldo’s rink up by 8 when they finished their 21 ends. Elaine Wills’
team was one down in the head halfway through their last end making the score even across the board; the team managed
to turn the head around and picked up four shots which the opposing skip was unable to change. This left the Kingborough
side with a very exciting 3 shot win.
The next day the Preliminary final was played in ideal conditions at Beltana against a strong Sandy Bay side. Norma Lovell
fought back from a large deficit to lose by only two shots. Shirley Maraldo’s team had a hard battle and were unable to hold
off against the team lead by Carol Bannister. Elaine Wills’ team has a lead til the lunch break but the Bay team fought back
and the end result was an 18 all draw leaving the Bay to go through to the Grand Final. Leonie Price reporting
Our best wishes for a quick recovery go to
Peter Meredith a life member who had a
bad fall and is expected to be at Franklin
Nursing Home till at least early May. As his
foot has to be kept elevated he can’t walk so
your call or visit would be very welcome.
Our best regards and condolences go to Keith Tabor’s family and friends on his passing away. In Keith’s mem-
bership of 40+- years he served on MANY committees and was very generous of his time and assets, whatever
the Club needed he provided be it transport or use of his tractor, etc. He taught many members, young and old
to bowl and was himself a very distinguished player, In his latter years, every Friday night he could be found in
the same seat at the Club in lively discussion with his brother Ray Tabor, Frank Naylor, Trevor Sculthorpe, Ron
Pacey and Chum Ogilvy all of whom are no longer with us. We thank them all for their contributions to the Club.
It’s nice to think of them all continuing these discussions ‘up there’ as they watch over us playing.

27/3/13 The Canberra Times, John Thistleton
Batemans Bay lawn bowlers are incredulous over the loss of $6 million worth of greens, their li-censed club and equipment in just three years.
The club, in the NSW coastal town popular with Canberra holidaymakers, is being forced to close its doors on Wednesday night - three years after an amalgamation with a nearby club. The men's president Greg Wale said they could not have imagined what happened, after signing an agreement to amalgamate with the Catalina Country Club. He said they were struggling and thought the bigger club would save them, but instead it led to their quick demise…….. "We're all here for companionship. We've made friends, we love the camaraderie. "That's all been taken away. They took our poker machines. They closed our restaurant, they just gutted the place." In November the Catalina Club advised members of a trial to allow trading at the bowling club to continue under limited opening hours. But in the latest update to members president Catalina Country Club president Kim Odgers said following a review in January and February which revealed a substantial and unsustainable decrease in trading revenue, the club would shut on March 28. Catalina's chief executive was unavailable for comment. The Canberra Times is awaiting to hear from Mr Odgers. Mr Wales said the Catalina's previous chief executive and board had wooed the bowlers and convinced them they could turn around the fortunes of the club, which has a membership of 260 men and women. They expected turnover to increase to about $1 million annually. If the worst-case scenario happened and they did have to sell the club, they would make greens on Catalina's golf course and everyone could continue bowling. A new board and chief executive had ignored that hand-shake agreement, and told the bowlers there was no room at the Catali-na. Mr Wale said the land, zoned private recreation, was about a kilometre from Hanging Rock, a collection of sporting and commu-nity ovals and buildings which will undergo a $50 million redevelopment. His members were hoping the bowling club could feature in the redevelopment plans, but worried Eurobodalla Shire Council wouldn't have enough money to help. "We're the number one club on the coast. We have a town of 16,000, now the only town without a bowling club," Mr Wale said. The nearest club at Malua Bay was 20 kilometres away.
Another big thankyou to those who formed
another good working bee which saw the ma-
jority of the panelling installed in the Indoor
Centre with some of the trickier sections still to
do. Hopefully it will all be completed within
the next couple of weeks.
