COMMUNICATION GETTING THE BALANCE RIGHT

Scholastic Bookfair

In the Resource Centre

28th May - 1st June

Information sent home to

families separately.

Strong communication is one of the most important factors within a school community. This is increasingly so in a large school community such as ours. There are two main elements to this:

communication to the community about what is going on in the school – events, processes, policies, organisational matters

communication to parents and carers about individual children – how they are progressing, achievements and areas of growth.

Currently we have many ways of communicating information about broader school matters – a fortnightly online newsletter, a communication app (Schoolstream), a website, Facebook page, a school sign. We need a combination to meet the preferences and needs of the whole community.

Teachers use additional means of letting parents know what is happening in the classroom as well as specific information about individual students. This is done through written reports, formal and informal conversations, newsletters, diaries, class apps such as Class Dojo, Seesaw and emails.

In our world there is a myriad of information coming at us through a variety of sources. Families are leading busy lives. As a school we are constantly working to get our information balance right – enough so that you have the opportunity to be well informed about broad school matters as well as how your own children are going but not too much that the important bits get lost in the flood.

The Education Committee will be exploring communication between class and specialist teachers to families. Some of the questions discussed will include:

What do parents want and need to know?

What is the best way for this to be communicated?

Should there be greater consistency across the school?

If you are interested in this topic and would like to be involved with the Education Committee to explore this please contact Daphne ([email protected]).

A few changes to School Banking The BankSA School Banking Program has been helping South Australian kids of all ages learn how to manage money for over 170 years. In that time we’ve determined that kids who understand how money works can carry those skills into their adult lives, helping them stay financially secure. After a careful review of the program, from 30th June 2018, BankSA staff will no longer be collecting School Banking deposits for your student base. The local Branch Manager Denise Brown, will call parents who regularly use the School Banking deposit process to discuss options and savings plans. There are now two options available via School Collection: Collection option #1 A school representative can drop off your School Banking each Tuesday to your local BankSA branch. Here, one of our staff will either process it on the spot or arrange a collection time for the student voucher books with your school representative. Collection option #2 If you have an existing Courier Drop process in place, simply place your weekly School Banking deposits into a Business Express Deposit envelope. Mark the envelope with ‘School Banking Deposits’ and they will be processed as per normal at your local branch, and then given back to courier for pick up ready for the following week. Supporting your students We continue to credit new accounts with $10 for new LittleSavers1 account holders, to get your kids off to a bigger savings head start. Sincerely Denise Brown Branch Manager 1 The $10 credit applies to new customers only aged 12 years and under and will be paid into the Incentive Saver Account within 1 month of account opening. Not available with any other offer. Before making a decision, read the terms and conditions, available at

This year National Reconciliation Week falls on week 5 of this term. Each year has a particular theme which drives the learning focus and area of acknowledgment. This years theme, “Don’t Keep History A Mystery: Learn. Share. Grow”, explores history hidden just beneath the surface, ready and waiting to be uncovered.

Its aim is to explore and learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories, to share that knowledge and help us grow as a nation. As a school we recognise and accept this week as important towards national reconciliation and the education of our future generations.

MUSIC IS FUN BAND Georgea Champion

Performing Arts Teachers Georgea Champion Rec - Year 2 and Milda Fahey Year 3 - 7 are very excited to announce the “Music is Fun Band “ will be performing for the R-7 Magill students in the gym on Wednesday June 20th Term 2 week 8.

There are two performances to accommodate our large numbers: 11am and 1: 30pm in the school gym.

The Music is Fun Band is one of the annual musical highlights for our students!

Every year there are 16 new songs. During performing arts lessons students are studying and learning the lyrics, dances and movement for the songs. Each song has activities that help students understand musical elements and skills in line with the Australian curriculum.

The students see and hear the band playing instruments such as: saxophone, trumpet, flute, keyboard, electric guitar, bass, percussion, xylophone and drum kit and more!

The performance is highly interactive and the band involves the audience in the singing actions and dancing. There are also costumed characters, colourful props and performing arts teachers, Georgea and Milda will be selecting some children from each class to participate in items on stage with the band as well, the Year 2 and Year 3 choirs will be singing a song with the band!

An incursion note will follow in the coming weeks.

Please note: Payment of Excursion Levy is required for students to attend.
