Greetings from TKS! Here is the second edition of the School Scoop, wherein we present glimpses of the exuberant activities conducted from July ’17 to October ’17 in TKS. The second quarter of an academic year is always eventful with academic and co-scholastic activities at the peak. It is time for us to shift gears and pick up momentum. We are also pleased to share with you that the school constantly endeavours to upgrade infrastructure to provide the best amenities to students. We have added dedicated labs for Maths, Science and English with state of the art equipment in the primary wing. The junior library has been revamped. For enhancing the safety of our students, a safety in charge has been appointed and more CCTV cameras have been added. We also have a two tier security system in place. No one is allowed entry without ID, guards are deployed at strategic places and are equipped with wireless radio. ID UL FITR CELEBRATIONS 4 July ’17 On the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr the little ones of Pre-Primary were told about the significance of this festival and how it is celebrated. On the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr the little ones of Pre-Primary were told about the significance of this festival and how it is celebrated. They were shown a relevant video clip on Id celebration. They enjoyed a short movie on ‘Idgah’ based on Munshi Prem Chand’s story.

Investiture ceremony was held on 8th July 2017. The Chief Guest for the function was Dr. Mahesh Uppal, Director Com First India. Principal Mrs. D. Kaur welcomed the guests and parents and administered the oath to the members of the Students Council and urged the students to nurture their leadership qualities. Shaubhagya Chaturvanshi was appointed the Head Boy and Savvy Khanna as the Head Girl of the Senior Wing. Shourya Vishnoi and Abhilasha Das were appointed the Head Boy and Head Girl respectively of the Primary Wing.

CAREER COUNSELLING WORKSHOP18 July ’17

TKS shooters participated in 4th Top Shot Open Shooting Championship 2017 at IIMT University, Meerut on 10th July 2017. Amongst 25 teams participating from about 45 schools, our students put up a brilliant show and bagged many prizes. Himanshu Chauhan of Class IX won individual Gold medal and the Girls team comprising of Kashish Dev of Class XII, Sudipti Shekhawat of Class X and Vidhi Singh of Class VIII won gold medals in 10m open rifle shooting event. The boys team, Shaunak Medhi of Class XII, Aryan Rastogi of Class X and Himanshu Chauhan also achieved bronze medals in the same category. The Khaitan School was awarded with a trophy of appreciation and Kudos to TKS shooting team. The coach Mr.Deepak Tomar received an appreciation memento.

A workshop for career options after XII was conducted for Class XII students on 18th July 2017. Eminent career counsellor Mr. Jitin Chawla sensitized the students about decision making process which plays a key role in choosing a career. Various options related to Science, Commerce, Humanities were discussed. The session ended with an interactive session with the students and the resource person.

VAN MAHOTSAVA20 July ’17

The students of Nilgiri House conducted a special assembly on Van Mahotsava to spread awareness about tree plantation. They enacted a street play (Nukkad Natak) on the importance of planting trees. A riveting dance performance was presented by the students to showcase the importance of rain in preserving flora.

ITIHAAS LEARNINGMODULE FIRST SESSION

20 July ’17

Students of The Khaitan School from Class X and humanity sections of Class XI and XII were taken to the India Gate and the Parliament House on 20th July 2017 by the Itihaas Group. The first Itihaas Learning Module session was taken up at the India Gate where children were briefed about the architectural facts of old and New Delhi. They were also informed about the significance of the India Gate, North and South Block and the Viceroy House.

LITERARY WEEK 24-29 July ’17

WORKSHOP ONGENDER SENSITIVITY

29 July ’17

Literary fervor engulfed The Khaitan School as it celebrated Literary Week, from 24th to 29th July 2017. An initiative started by Mrs. S. L. Gupta, Education Director to open and widen vistas of communication, it witnessed a plethora of events in English, Hindi, Sanskrit and French. The main events were English jingles competition, folk tale enactment, humorous panel discussion, travel itinerary, song and conversation in French language, Hindi Kavita Vachan and Nukkad Natak and many more. The week ended with the culmination ceremony held in the school auditorium wherein the prize winning events were held. Mr. V. K. Sharma, Founder Director Khilona Theatre group was the guest of honor.

NATIONAL SUMMIT ON DEALING WITH FAILURES28 July ’17

School Counsellors, Ms. Pooja Ahuja and Ms. Neha Dutt attended The National Summit on dealing with failures-developing resilience in school children organized by Institute of Counsellor Training Research and Consultancy on 28th July 2017 at Indian International Centre.

Eminent psychologist Dr. Ravindran addressed the key issues related to resilience such as protective factors versus risk factors, the biological model of resilience and the impact of parenting styles. The workshop was supported by case studies and question answer session based on signs and symptoms of vulnerable children thereby promoting resilience in classrooms to develop a positive school climate.

Ms. Bharti Kumar, teacher of primary wing, attended a workshop on Gender Sensitivity conducted by CBSE on 29th July 2017 at Billabong High International School, Noida. Ms. Neera Chopra, spokesperson from CBSE, chaired the first session of the workshop while post lunch session was conducted by Ms. Shweta Khurana, Psychologist from Bal Bharti Public School, Delhi. The aim of the workshop was to create awareness about gender sensitivity among teachers so that they encourage gender equality in the schools and give equal opportunities to boys and girls for various co-curricular activities and in education.

WORKSHOP ATNATIONAL SCIENCECENTRE

2 August ’17

A workshop for Class X students wasorganized at National Science Centre on Biotech (DNA Isolation). The points discussed were: Isolation of DNA from human cheek cells, use of micropipette, use of centrifuge, dry bath, Voxer mixing, di�erent types of microscopes, the working of laminar air flow, autoclave and distillation.

INSTALLATION CEREMONY –ROTARY CLUB OF NOIDA

2 August ‘17

The Installation ceremony of the Interact members of The Khaitan School was held on August 2 2017. President, Rotary Club Noida Rtn Praveen Gupta, Mrs. Priya Gupta, Rtn. Maj. Dalbir Singh, Director New Generations, and other distinguished Rotarians did the honours of presenting the badges to the o�ce bearers and the new Interact members.

Rtn. Praveen Gupta in his address blessed the students and appreciated their focus and dedication towards improving the degrading environment and reiterated the importance of selfless service through peace and harmony. To start the year’s project, plantation of medicinal and air purifier plants was undertake in the school premises by the distinguished guests, Principal, Teacher in charge and Council Members.

RAKSHA BANDHANCELEBRATIONS

4 August ’17

The Pre-Primary wing conducted a special assembly to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. The little ones spoke a few lines and explained about the sacred bond between brothers & sisters and as to how Rakhi symbolizes the sister’s love & prayers for her brother’s wellbeing and prosperity. A beautiful song was sung by Class Prep ‘Aaya Rakhi ka Tyohar’ which highlighted the feeling of love between brothers & sisters.

WORKSHOP ON ‘THE GOD PARTICLE’

4 August ’17

Mrs. Reena Kumar, PGT Physics attended a workshop ‘The GOD Particle’ organized by Ashoka University and Life Lab Foundation in New Delhi. The resource persons were Dr. Mick Storr, an experimental physicist and the pioneer of CERN’s international training programme and Dr. Archana Sharma. The high point of the workshop was the virtual journey through CERN.

TKS students participated in Insight Techorizon 2017 organised by Indus Valley Public School, Noida on 4th August 2017 and bagged the overall trophy. Students participated in 11 events and put up a brilliant show under the able guidance of the computer department teachers.

WORKSHOP ON FIRST AID ANDCARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION

5 August ’17

A workshop for senior school teachers on First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation was organized by Fortis Hospital on 5th August 2017. Nursing Educator, Ms. Nisha Mariam Chacko sensitized the participants about the various types of First Aid and also taught the methods of giving Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Demonstration of the methods was conducted and the participants were imparted with hands on training. The workshop ended with an interactive session and queries of the sta� members were addressed.

In House Gender sensitization workshops were organized by the school counsellor Ms.Pooja and Ms. Neha for Class IV and V. The workshop aimed at sensitizing the students about the di�erence between sex and gender, the ways gender roles are formed in the society and the need to re-examine the same. The interactive session also highlighted good and bad touch along with the guidelines to manage a situation of bad touch. The presentation was supported by appropriate pictures and a video on good and bad touch.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS15 August ’17

The 71st Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour in The Khaitan School. The Tri Colour flag was hoisted by Principal Mrs D. Kaur followed by the rendition of the National Anthem. On this occasion the students showcased a number of performances like talk, dance, song etc. As per the guidelines issued by DIOS as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, a debate and an essay writing competitions were held on the topic ‘Freedom from Open Defecation‘. Principal addressed the children and administered the ‘New India Pledge’ to build a Clean, Poverty free, Corruption free, Terrorism free, Communalism free and casteism free India by 2022.

INDEPENDENCE DAY ANDJANMASHTMI ASSEMBLYA Special Assembly was conducted by the Pre-Primary wing to celebrate India’s 71st Independence Day and Janmashtmi – the birth of Lord Krishna. Children were explained the importance of celebrating Independence Day as it marked the end of British rule in India. On this occasion children presented a dance to instill the spirit of patriotism ‘Desh Rangeela’. For Janmashtmi a melodious song ‘Aao Manaye Janmashtmi’ was presented.

SCHOLAR BADGE25 August ’17

The middle wing scholars were felicitated at a solemn ceremony held on 25th August 2017. Chief guests Mr. S.K. Srivastava , Ex chairman and Managing Director of Oil India Ltd., Ex-Director General, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons Govt. of India and Ar. J.K. Jain, Chairman & Managing Director DASNAC graced the occasion by their benign presence. A splendidly choreographed classical contempory fusion dance "Itihaas banana hai" captivated the hearts of the audience. A melliflous and motivating group song "Purane din Purane Pal Purane Khwaab “ was sung by the school choir.Mr. S.K. Srivastava in his address stressed on the fact that education was the key to everything, be it peace, economic stability, good health, respect for other faiths or harmony among di�erent communities. Ar. J.K. Jain congratulated the achievers and specially motivated and encouraged those who could not achieve the criteria fixed for scholar badge or scholar blazer and asked them to channelize their talent in other co-curricular activities. Education Director, Mrs. S.L. Gupta, showered her blessings and good wishes on the scholars.

TEACHER’S DAY4-5 September ’17

On 4th September 2017. Teacher’s Day was celebrated by the Pre-Primary wing. Lots of fun filled activities were organized by the mothers of the Pre-Primary children. They participated enthusiastically in the celebrations. It was a memorable day for the little ones.

On September 5th Teacher’s Day was celebrated with lot of enthusiasm at The Khaitan School. The assembly started with the invocation of prayers to the Almighty God. Tejasvi of Class 9thpresented a thought dedicated to teachers. Anam of Class 8th delivered a talk on the role of teachers in a child’s life. Ojasvi of Class 7th recited a poem on the importance of teachers. The students of senior wing presented an overwhelming song pertaining to the history of celluloid which has influenced us practically in every aspect of our lives. Aaroh Shankar of Class 12 sang a melodious Mohd Rafi song to pay tribute to his teachers. Senior girls danced to the tune of a Haryanvi song celebrating the monsoon season. Mridula of Class 9th gave a breath taking Odissi performance. Kartik and Naman tapped their feet in a fusion dance. The council members acknowledged the teaching fraternity’s contribution in their lives by presenting bouquets and card to the Principal and co-ordinators. They were invited to cut the cake along with the Head boy and Head girl of the school. In her address Principal, Mrs D. Kaur motivated the teachers and students with her thoughtful words. The assembly ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE1 September ’17

Mrs. Saswati Halder (PGT Maths) received an award of excellence in education by IIHM (International Institute of Hotel Management) on 1stSeptember, 2017 at The Grand, Vasant Kunj as a part of their Teacher’s Day Awards program. She was nominated for her selfless contribution towards imparting knowledge and her tireless service towards the institution.

ALL INDIA G.V.MAVALANKAR SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP14-26 September ’17

Aadya Mall of Class VIII-A stood 10th in the All India G.V.Mavalankar Shooting Championship (Rifle) 2017 held in Mumbai from 14th to 26th September 2017. She was also adjudged Rank 1 in U.P. in the youth category. Around 2000 shooters from across the country participated in the event out of which more than 400 were from U.P. She has been qualified for Open Nationals to be held in Thiruvananthpuram in December. Congratulations Aadya for your brilliant performance.

CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME12-13 September ’17

A two days capacity building programme was attended by Ms. Nupur Pal and Ms. Deepa Thomas on challenging areas in social science for Class X which was organized by CBSE at Indus Valley Public School on 12th & 13th September 2017. The resource person were Mr. M.L. Sawhney, Former PGT Pol Science and Ms. Santosh Vyas, Vice Principal Sadhu Vaswani School. The discussion was based on NCF 2005 and guidelines on multiple intelligence theory of Bloom’s Taxonomy, assessment techniques to frame ideal question paper focusing on application based learning.

WORKSHOP ONSEX EDUCATION

School counsellor, Ms. Pooja Ahuja attended workshop on ‘Sex Education’ organized by Parwarish NGO on 16th September 2017 at Parwarish’s o�ce, Safdarjung Enclave, Delhi. Ms. Manvi, Counselling Psychologist addressed the need of educating the students about their Body Science (Sex Education), about good touch/bad touch, handling their queries related to sex in a logical manner and also to develop a connect with the students so that they are ready to share their concerns with the counsellors.

School Counsellors Ms. Pooja and Ms. Neha organised a workshop on ‘Resilience’ for primary teachers on 19th September 2017, in which they addressed the key issues related to resilience such as protective, preventive and risk factors, impact of parenting style and role of teachers in preparing the students to face the adversities of life.

The Khaitan School has been ranked number 5 in Noida by the Times of India. This recognition once again underlines our constant endeavor towards excellence in education.

CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMMEWORKSHOP

15-16 September ’17

Ms. Madhusmita Purohit and Ms. Soma Sur Chowdhary attended a workshop on Capacity Building Programme by the CBSE at Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Vasundhara on 15th & 16th September 2017. The resource persons were Ms. Parul Principal, National Victor Public School and Mrs. Ira, Principal Vidya Bharti School. The major areas of discussion in the workshop were framing instructional objectives for teaching science according to NCF 2005, various tools and techniques of assessment and making lesson plans and the importance of practical in teaching science.

EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL TOUR TO JAIPUR23-24 September ’17

HEADING?1 September ’17

The Khaitan School has been ranked number 6 in Noida in India School Ranking Awards 2017-18 by Education World in the category Co-ed Day Schools. It’s indeed a moment of pride and glory for TKS and true testimony of the values and ethos we stand for.

The school was rated on 14 parameters of education excellence (faculty competence, teacher welfare and development, academic reputation, co-curricular education, sports education, infrastructure provision, leadership, internationalism to name a few).

The felicitation ceremony was attended by Ms. Sheetal Sawhney, Senior Coordinator and Dr. P. Nagi, HOD Science on 23rd September 2017 at the Leela Ambience Gurugram wherein Country’s top 1000 Primary – Secondary schools were awarded.

An educational and cultural tour to Jaipur was organised by The Khaitan School from 23rd September, 17 to 24th September, 17 for Classes IV & the students visited Albert Museum Hall, Zoological park, Jantar Mantar, and the City Palace.

Interact club of The Khaitan School organized a special assembly in the auditorium to mark the beginning of the Swachh Pakhwada initiave as a part of CBSE and Govt. of India initiated program called SWACHHTA PAKHWADA on 1st September 2017. This drive was undertaken to inculcate the ethos of discipline and teamwork in order to make our country clean and green.

President Rotary Club Noida Rtn. Praveen Gupta, Director New Generation Rtn. Major Dalbir Singh graced the occasion by their presence. Principal Mrs. Davinder Kaur welcomed the guests.

A powerful and a forceful street play to throw light on ‘How Swachh our country is!’ enthralled the audience. A motivational and inspirational talk by Akshita was appreciated by all.

Rtn. Praveen Gupta highlighted on the various projects undertaken by the Rotary Club in building up the toilets in the schools of the lesser privileged section of society. He appreciated the school and the students who have undertaken the mission of cleanliness and hoped to spread the awareness amongst the masses. In an endeavor to keep up to Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of clean and developed India a pledge was taken by the guests, teachers and students. A rally by more than 80 Interact volunteers was taken around sector 40 in order to urge the residents to rise up to the need to maintain cleanliness.

The rally was flagged o� by Rotarians and the Principal and was very well received by the onlookers.
