Dia de los Reyes MagosMalaga transfer actionMove over Mrs. MarkhamTop 10 New Year ResolutionsEvent Guide

Feliz Dia de los Reyes MagosJanuary 6th is the celebration of the three Kings or Dia de los Reyes. This holiday is very important in Spain, especially for kids, when they get their presents. The celebrations start the evening before, with parades taking place in most towns.

The three kings lead the procession through the streets by throwing sweets to the children. The next morning, the children wake up to find their presents have been left overnight.

Also popular during this holiday is the Roscn, a sweet donut-shaped bread covered in dried fruit and sugar. The cake is usually filled with cream inside and a small toy is buried inside the mixture. Whoever finds the toy is crowned king for the day and will receive good luck for the next year.

For parents, the gift of peace comes as the children return to school.

Move over Mrs. MarkhamSet in a very elegant top floor London flat, belonging to Philip and Joanna Markham, this comedy play, written by Ray Cooney & John Chapman revolves around the amorous goings-on of three couples as they converge on the same bedroom on the same night.

Philip had reluctantly agreed to let Henry borrow his apartment for the evening to 'entertain' his latest girlfriend. At the same time Joanna Markham had been persuaded by Linda Lodge to let her borrow the apartment so she can entertain her lover. What nobody knows is that the Interior Designer who had been decorating the apartment for the past three months had decided that this was the night he and the au pair girl would try out the new round bed! Not surprisingly, chaos and confusion ensue!

Move over Mrs. Markhan will be performed at Salon Varietes Theater, Fuengirola, Jan 14th - 19th.

Register to voteWith May's municipal elections approaching soon, this is a good time to remind foreign residents that the deadline for registering to vote and ensuring they are included on the electoral roll is January 15th. EU residents, who make up 38,000 of the Malaga population have an opportunity to have their voice heard by local politicians by using their votes, the best known method to ensure a politician is listening.Residents need to be on the 'padrn' to be entitled to register to vote. If you are not registered, a quick visit to your local town hall to sign the paperwork will ensure your taxes go to the local government and help improve local services.

Smoking BanThe new smoking ban has just been implemented on January 2nd and includes all public places. For those who weren't aware, Spain brought in the smoking ban in 2006, but this was amended to give establishments smaller than 100 sqm the ability to decide if they wanted to be smoking or non-smoking establishments. The result is that very few bars or restaurants decided implement the ban. This has all changed on January 2nd, when Spain fell into line with many other EU nations. With opinions differing and many people and bar owners insisting the ban will not adhered to, this will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months.
