USFBL CSR -
The pandemic called Covid has made life tough and vulnerable for each one of us across the globe. Right now, with the second wave of Covid at its peak, the country faces a challenge on grave shortage and crisis of health facilities. This pandemic has made life even more difficult for the rural population as the number of hospitals and other health care centers are insufficient to take care of affected masses for their Covid related tests and treatment. During such times, most of the hospitals with overflow of the Covid patients in view of their capacity to take care of is facing scarcity of medically skilled workforce / infrastructure and as a result they are denying admission of new patients. To help the rural population and mitigate the effect of poor health care facilities, Utkarsh Welfare Foundation has extended E-Clinic model to operate in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh. The first E-clinic has been started in Nihalapur village in Varanasi district. The E-clinics are being run by the trained nursing staff and one community worker as helper and even in the pandemic, the health issues of the villagers are being dealt free of any charges.
The employees of the UWF team are relentlessly working alongside the health workers. Patients are made to follow the norms of social distancing and wearing of mask. Patients are able to have video calls with doctors, where the prescriptions are provided in pdf form as per which the medicine is provided by the nursing staff at the E-clinic.

Partners through the Journey
“I made a decision to join Utkarsh Welfare Foundation in September 2018 and it turned out to be the best career decision of my life. Through my association with the organization, I have been able to develop my personal, professional as well as my interpersonal skills. Working in an organization with such a diverse culture gives me a lot of satisfaction. The constant support from the management and the supervisors motivates me to work with more zeal and enthusiasm. Apart from all this, working for the upliftment of the underprivileged, fills me with immense joy."
Mr. Vimala Shankar, Micro Enterprise Development Officer (Panchkoshi, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh)
My name is Suresh Sonkar. Few years back, when I told people about my dream of being an entrepreneur, they laughed it off, as for a young man of 28 years coming from such a poor socio-economic background and achieving success as an entrepreneur was something, very few people could have imagined. Even now when I look back at my journey of becoming an entrepreneur, everything seems like a dream.
I started a fruit trading business of my own in year 2010 while residing in my village - Kakshawa of Varanasi district, Uttar Pradesh. I started this business with a total start-up capital of `10 lakh and the business has really grown in all these years.
Initially, I earned a monthly income of 25,000 in which my profit was around 15,000. Although this sum was enough to sustain the basic needs of my family, it wasn’t sufficient to give wings to my idea of business augmentation. I wanted to avail a credit for the same but was unable to do so due to lack of knowledge and guidance. Then in the year 2020, I was screened and selected for an orientation programme on Micro Enterprise Promotion
Programme (MEPP) run by SIDBI and implemented by Utkarsh Welfare Foundation. This two (2) days’ programme helped me in organizing my thoughts and in identifying the opportunities for business expansion. The programme also helped in enhancing my knowledge about market outreach and also built my knowledge about maintaining ledger accounts and day to day records. It also assisted me in fulfilling the banking formalities and avail the required credit linkage.
I put the application for the credit linkage and soon a loan amount of `7 lakh was disbursed by the bank which helped me to execute my plan of augmenting my business. At present, I earn a monthly income of `40,000 in which my profit amounts to `28,000. The credit linkage has helped me to expand my business to four (04) more districts of Uttar Pradesh. And now, I am able to sustain the livelihood of six (06) others along with me, by employing them as staff to help me in my trade.
