The aim of the agricultural department is to strengthen the relationship between Kenya and The Netherlands including the Kenyan-Dutch agro business relations. By extending our knowledge on the amount, types and locations of companies the embassy can contrib- ute to the identiϐication of possible Agro-hubs. This will also aid the further policy making of the agricul- tural department. The outcome of this study will be strictly conϐidential, and is purely for internal use. ThenewministerofagricultureThe Kenyan government has identi ied food securi-ty as one of the four pillars in its strategic plan, whilst the aim of the agricultural counselor is to also further strengthen value chains. The shared ambition between the 2 countries was emphasized during a meeting between the new Kenyan Minister of Agriculture H.E. Mr. Kiunjuri, the Ambassador and the Agricultural Counsellor. We look forward to working together in the next years!Mombasa ieldtripA visit to the port of Mombasa was arranged by KEPHIS (Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services) and NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority). The visit included a tour at the KEPHIS facilities, and the container freight stations. The local KEPHIS team plays an important role in the import of Dutch products into Kenya. The team dis-cussed challenges and ways to cooperate closely. Fol-lowed by a visit to the WFP (World Food Program), where the ASSIP (Automated Support System of Im-port) system has been implemented to simplify the import processes. Finally, some of the implemented recommendations were observed at the Container freight Station that deals with the importation of seed potatoes. As the inal stop, the team saw a container scanner, partly funded by the Netherlands, and learned more on how it plays a role in detecting evi-dence of poaching.

HorticultureCentreofExcellenceThe Netherlands has always been an important trade partner for Kenya in terms of horticultural export. To maintain and grow this position, a Horti-culture Centre of Excellence (HCoE), could be in-strumental in supporting local sector development and should increase the Dutch involvement and help to attract investors. Check our website on this topic.PotatoupdateMarch was the month of the potato! The special therefore highlights 24 articles written on various topics re-lated to the potato industry. Not only are there article available, in 2018 Wageningen University and Research organizes a course on (seed) potato sector development for emerging markets for practitioners, policymak-ers, researchers, and project managers who want to develop the potato industry in their home countries.

RoundtableNaivashaRecently we organized a loriculture industry strate-gic session to get the important industry players to-gether and discuss recent opportunities and challeng-es in the sector. One particular topic which came up was issues with freight transport to Schiphol. The Ag-ricultural Department aims to conduct a study in the next months to follow this issue up. Other topics of interest and discussion were on market access and market maintenance. The participants appreciated the initiative of the session, they stated that next time the Ministry of Agriculture and transport could be represented.
