Walking is a great form of exercise. It is easy to do and helps to grow healthy bodies and minds. Even if you have to drive to school, try parking a little further away so that you have the benefit of a daily walk. When we walk instead of driving a car, we also decrease the amount of air pollution in our environment. See if you can make walking a regular part of your family’s life.

Are you or your children members of the public library system? Have you visited the new Stretton Centre at Munno Para West? The Campus Library team spent a very productive morning there last week investigating the range of eBooks available for all library members and the borrowing processes that we can use to make them available to our students. Playford Library Service is part of the One Card System that gives borrowers access to books from all over South Australia. If a book is

held at another library, it can be delivered to your local branch within days. eBooks are available online using the Overdrive website or App. Up to ten eBooks can be borrowed at a time and automatically expire after three weeks. We encourage you to visit the library and register your children if you haven’t already. There are activities every school holidays, free online courses and of course millions of stories to read and share all for FREE!

The book tells the story of Tony’s son. Jack has cerebral palsy which means that he must be incredibly persistent and show extreme perseverance to achieve some of the things that able bodied people take for granted.

The book tells of the many failed moon jump attempts that the cow makes before succeeding in jumping over the moon to create the famous hey diddle-diddley rhyme!

Hey diddle diddle The cat and the fiddle The cow jumped over the moon The little dog laughed to see such fun And the dish ran away with the spoon

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME

National Simultaneous Storytime was celebrated across Australia this week with the 2016 Book of the Year Honour award winning The Cow Tripped Over the Moon by Tony Wilson. Reception and Year 1 classes from both schools enjoyed a shared reading of the book in the amphitheatre outside the library complete with a life-size cow model! All other classes had the opportunity to watch a video of the author reading the book and explaining the inspiration for writing the story. You can have a look for yourself at Tony’s website www.tonywilson.com.au

Next week is National Reconciliation Week. Students across the Campus will be involved in various activities. It is a great opportunity to discuss this topic with your children. Our next newsletter will feature some of the activities.

LOST PROPERTY

Don’t forget to check our Lost Property Bin outside Student Services regularly for any misplaced items of clothing. We also have a table next to the Community Notice Board with lost jumpers and jackets. Please remember to name everything clearly so we can return any items to their owners. Personal items of lost property are kept inside Student Services.

STUDENT TOILETS

Parents/carers are reminded that if they need to use the toilet could they please go to Student Services and collect the toilet key to access the staff toilet in Grevillea. In the interest of safety for our students, parents/carers are not permitted to use student toilets. This also applies to pre-school children with a parent and children who are not students of Playford Primary. Thank you for your cooperation. Kind regards,

Dean, Betty, Lorraine, Michaela and Michelle ~ Playford Primary Leadership Team
