News from ELF Miniatures

At long last the wind and the rain have stopped here in the UK. We are busy, as usual, with lots of

bespoke work, as well as regular orders. The bespoke work includes a 1930s commercial kitchen which

we will feature in a newsletter later this year, for which Elizabeth has created several unique items.

Always remember, that if you can’t find what you want on the website, it is always worth contacting us

with any special requests. Our Readers Houses section shows Elizabeth’s creativity in action!

Miniatura and the Kensington Dolls House fair are fast approaching and we hope to see some of you at

these events.

New items from the ELF Store

We are delighted to stock several new items from wallpapers to ‘Ghost’ chairs and a bright pink chaise

longue.

For a really glamorous look, a shocking pink chaise longue with a mirror cube table, at £17.90 and £3.50 respectively, against one of our new wallpapers.

A practical table and chairs set in white, at £21.00. Suitable for a dining room or kitchen or even a cafe.

Refreshing our designer chairs range, we now stock this chair based on Phillipe Starck’s famous ‘Ghost’ chair.

Put a set of four with a dining table or use a single one to make a statement in a bedroom or office. We have paired it with a black acrylic minimalist console table to make a stylish dressing table set:

We have a set of five bathroom accessories in black, white or wicker effect finish. Here is the wicker effect set:

Wallpapers are available from 85p to £2.30 per sheet, in 2 sizes.

These are just a few of them:

Find them in the section called ‘Wallpapers and tiling’. As well as designs for ‘grown-up’ rooms, there are several which are designed for a child’s room or nursery, such as this one, featuring hot air balloons above blue panelling:

There are three new modern lights. A matching table lamp and floor lamp, and a simple half-moon wall light.

Finally, we have some new kitchen appliances, in the form of a highly affordable Aga in red or green at just £7.10, and an upright silver fridge for £14.70.

Please ask if there is anything you would like that we don’t already stock. We can’t

guarantee to find it for you, but we’ll try!

Featuring this month – the sitting room

...the lounge, the family room – or whatever you call it. The place where the inhabitants of your dolls

house can relax!

The first

room is

definitely for

the woman

of the house,

pink and a

little bit

glamorous!

Featuring our new shocking pink chaise longue, ‘ghost’ chair and mirror cube table with our ever

popular chrome and glass shelving unit and black acrylic minimalist console table to keep the look sleek

and restricted in colour palette. A pink laptop, pink roses, pink radio and box of rose tissues maintain the

theme. A new black vase picks up the black of the desk and chair.

The other room featured is a family room with TV, books, CDs and magazines, although the little boy

seems to have his mind on outdoor activities! Some of you may recognise this as the sitting room on our

fairs stand. Featuring ELF’s sculpted sideboard, designer desk and compact sofa, with matching coffee

table, the room also includes a media unit from the EAZY living range.

To make it even more up-to-date why not add a tablet or a

games console? We have 3 different offerings at £8.95,

£6.45 and £13.50:

You can choose from a wide range of accessories for the sitting room.

Books start at 90p for a set of 3 novels to around £8 for readable books.

Vases from £1.35

Wall art from £1.75

Houseplants and cacti from £1.90

A simple modern vase for £1.70

This piece of wall art, called Sunset is £4.50

More economical options are available for most of the

furniture items. The ELF sofa is £25 but you could have this

smart corner sofa set in white for only £15. And this vibrant

red chair and sofa are the same price.

The designer sideboard from ELF costs £45 but you could choose this

ridged sideboard by ELF at only £20 or an option from our economy

range at just £6.45!

The designer desk costs £40 but an EAZY Living Compact Desk kit

would cost you just £5.50 or a simple wooden desk like this costs

£9.90.

Finally, a coffee table need cost no more than £3.50 for the square

one seen in this photo:

Readers Houses Instead of our usual feature focusing on one of our readers’ houses, this time we show you how we worked with

two clients to replicate their own kitchen.

Tanja wanted to bring the essence of her

kitchen into the doll’s house, but the space

available was not sufficient to replicate the

kitchen in its entirety, so it was therefore

important to focus on the details. Her

beautiful sleek white kitchen is shown on the

right, and she wanted to include the wide

drawers, the stunning contemporary extractor,

and her island breakfast bar (not visible in the

photo). Tanja sent some initial drawings,

which we then developed to produce the

sketch you see below for the main section.

Elizabeth felt that the integrated handles were an important feature

that could be reproduced in the model and the island has the same

recess for bar stools as the original. Although her own kitchen

doesn’t have open shelving, Tanja requested the addition of the

shelves here in order to have room to display more of her

miniatures.

Although the model is less extensive than the full-sized version, when photographed together, you can see how

well the miniature echoes the original. Even the taps match!

Mr S wanted to surprise his wife on their anniversary with a model of their new kitchen, but as they don’t have a

dolls house (yet!) the units needed to be free-standing so that they could sit on a shelf without requiring any

support.

The full-sized kitchen is quite a

large room, with a long run of

units along the left side. Mr S felt

that it would be better to leave

out one or two units to reduce the

overall size of the model, whilst

still keeping the general “feel” of

the room.

Ignoring everything to the left of the oven, and making the

column oven an integral part of the support structure allowed us

to extend a backing panel to hold the remaining wall units in

place.

Although ELF offers an extensive range of worktops, none of

them was a good match for the lovely stone effect top in Mr and

Mrs S’s kitchen, so Elizabeth created one especially for them.

Again, it is the details that are immediately recognisable; the black

extractor with its front controls, the black gas hob, contemporary

upstands....and even the wall sockets!

Rather than simply sit the units on a shelf, Mr S

asked if we could replicate the floor to give context

to the model, so we created a real oak floor similar

to the original, whose richness enhances the pale

cream of the units.

The original kitchen...

.....and the model we created.

Mrs S was surprised and delighted with her “other” new kitchen!
