Diana Contreras, chair, Department of OBGYN and Women’s Health, Atlantic Health System, and her team have taken the NJPQC quality improvement projects and applied them across their health system hospitals. The system’s workgroups are focusing on mea- sures related to identification of ob- stetric hemorrhage, management of severe hypertension and reduction of low-risk C-sections among first-time moms. Atlantic Health leaders have implemented data dashboards, mak- ing it easier to monitor progress in a timely manner across its four birth- ing facilities. The team’s work will be showcased at the NJPQC Spring Conference April 29. n QI CORNER SAVE THE DATE: NJPQC Quality Improvement Bootcamp June 19 U nderstanding and properly implementing quality improvement is essential for any practice inter- ested in improving efficiency, patient safety and clinical outcomes. The NJPQC has partnered with Institute for Healthcare Improvement Director Fran Griffin, RRT, MPA, to lead a one-day quality improvement bootcamp June 19 at the NJHA Conference and Event Center in Princeton. This QI bootcamp is especially geared toward improvement teams; we recommend that two to three people from each hospital attend to learn and grow as a unit committed to their organizational goals. The program will focus specifically on: Quality improvement strategies and tools such as the PDSA cycle, project aims and driver diagram The difference between quality improvement and research Practical solutions to quality challenges in perinatal units, with strategies to draft an action plan for improvement. Watch for registration information coming soon from the NJPQC.
