www.holy-redeemer.org NEWSLETTER December 2019
Dear Parents and Guardians,
After a restful season of giving thanks, we turn our hearts in a new direction, one of waiting and anticipation. The Advent season is often mixed in with Christmas, however, it deserves its own recognition. Advent began on December 1 and I encourage you and your families to spend time preparing the way for the birth of Jesus. This could mean a time for prayer, an advent wreath, setting up your manger scene or acts of service and kindness.
Our students will be celebrating this beautiful season of waiting by studying and utilizing an advent wreath, weekly Mass, reconciliation services for 3rd- 8th grade, and preparing for the Christmas Pageant. On December 6, the students will receive a special visit from Saint Nicholas to celebrate his feast day. The students will place their shoes in the hallway and find a treat when they re-turn. We invite our families to join us for Mass on December 11. Our Sixth Grade Jesse Tree Presentation will follow immediately af-ter Mass. Our second graders will receive their first reconciliation on December 7.
My first Advent and Christmas with my daughter, while still so small, has me reflecting on what memories I want to help her create. I pray that this season is full of memories and traditions for your families. As Catholics, the true meaning of Christmas, the birthday of our Savior, is what we want to ring through our celebrations. The traditions, faith, and family life you are creating now will carry with your children into their adult lives.
Prayer through song is powerful. This special prayer will be shared at our Christmas Pageant and musical performances. Our Winter Band Performance will also feature festive music that we can all enjoy. We hope all of our families and friends can join us De-cember 16 at 7:00 PM for this Christmas tradition.
This time is also a time of giving. Last week, our students led by example and made 1,610 sandwiches for 3 Catholic Charities homeless shelters in Washington, D.C. and with the help of Prince George’s County Police Officers, members of our own local county as well. We are thankful to our parent volunteers, Mrs. Jenny Pacheco and Mrs. Elyse Rohrer Budiash, for delivering the meals to Catholic Charities, and to Mrs. Kelly Meyers for cultivating a relationship with the Prince George’s County Police Officers.
Every day, we all get to share in a gift of faith-filled education. We continue to share the word of this gift with new families and community members through our Open Houses. National Junior Honor Society and Student Council members led over two dozen families through our school during our first two open houses. We will host two more Open Houses next month. Please share this infor-mation and your stories with family, friends, and neighbors who may be interested in learning more about Holy Redeemer School.
Sunday, January 26: 9 AM- 12 PM
Tuesday, January 28: 8:30-11 AM
As we give of our time, gifts, prayers and thanks, I cannot go without giving thanks to each of you. Without our students, par-ents, parishioners, alumni, and community, we would not be the thriving school we are today. Thank you for your donations, your vol-unteering, and your expertise. The next time you come into our school, please check out our festive, Christmas Giving Tree, adorned with lights, ornaments, and teacher wishes!
May God bring you his many blessings during this season of waiting. It has been a true honor and joy to spend this time serv-ing you all as interim Principal. We look forward in anticipation to welcoming back our Principal, Mrs. Fernandez, in the New Year. Merry Christmas to you all and may your holidays be filled with love and laughter.
Merry Christmas,
Mrs. Brianna Alaimo Interim Principal

2019 Day of Giving November 25 was our annu-al Day of Giving. The stu-dents made over 1,600 sand-wiches! We are grateful to all of the generous families who donated food and sup-plies! A big thank you to Mrs. Elyse Rohrer Budiash and Mrs. Jenny Pacheco for vol-unteering to drive the sand-wiches to various shelters, including 801 East Men’s Shelter. We also want to thank Mrs. Kelly Meyers, who helped coordinate Prince George’s County Po-lice Officers to drop off to various homes and shelters in our local area that were in need! The police officers were wonderful to work with and we are very ap-preciative of their support!
