Our 4-H History

A.B. Graham started a youth program in Clark County, Ohio, in 1902, which is considered the

birth of 4-H in the United States. The first club was called "The Tomato Club" or the "Corn Growing

Club". T.A. Erickson of Douglas County, Minnesota, started local agricultural after-school

clubs and fairs that same year. Jessie Field Shambaugh developed the clover pin with an H on

each leaf in 1910, and by 1912 they were called 4-H clubs. (http://www.4-h.org/about/4-h-history/)

4-H Club Spotlight Over the coming months we will be focusing on

our 4-H Clubs. This month we will are going to get a brief introduction to the 4-H Cloverbuds.

This club meets on the first Thursday of every month and is open to children ages 5-8 years.

Each meeting will focus on a different area of 4-H, there could be Natural Resources one month and

Livestock the next. Each meeting includes a snack, a lesson and an activity.

This club is led by Angie Padgett.

raised beds at our office this year! We will be using these to learn about raised bed gardens. These are fun gardens that you don’t have to bend over too far to get to, and some are even table tops! We will also

be planting Pansies!

The Marksmen Shooting Sports Club will be holding an informational meeting for all interested youth on

September 28 at 6pm. Marksmen is a club that prac-tices firearm safety and skills using .22 rifles, air pis-tols, and BB rifles. This club practices educational
