This  summer  you  are   likely   to  see  a  couple  new  faces  helping  out  around  the  church.    As  of   last  Sunday  the  Personnel  committee  approved  for  the  staff  to  hire  two  interns  for  the  summer.    These  interns  will  do  much  more  than  just  work  with  our  teenagers  but  much  of  their  time  will  go  toward  helping  out  in  that  area.

Why  are  Interns  important?    The  process  of  internship  is  important  for  both  the  intern  and  the  church  they  serve.    Many  young  ministers  are  looking  to  begin  their  training  early  when  they  are  in  college  so  they  can  inter  into  the  ministry  right  out  of  college  with  some  much  coveted  experience.    This  helps  them  to  better  understand  the  ministry  in  which  they  are  called  and  it  helps  them  to  “shadow”  other  ministers  to   learn  from  them.     It   is  also  important   in  that   it   is  the  churches  responsibility  to  raise  up  and  train  our  future  church  leaders  effectively.    This  responsibility  goes  in  the  same  vein  that  we  see  the  apostle  Paul  use  in  his  own  ministry  in  the  New  Testament  with  Timothy  and  others  he  took  under  his  wing.

You   can   help   us   by   being  willing   to   support   our   guests   by   providing   some  meals   and   fellowship   for   them.   As  well   as  making  them  feel  welcome  and  at  home.

New  Faces

Summer  Upon  Us  I’m   sure   that   parents   and   teenagers   are   not   already   thinking   about   summer  plans  but  we  will  have  a  full  summer  in  the  youth  ministry  as  usual.    June  10  –  14:  Vacation  Bible  School  June  17  –  21:  Super  Summer  June  24-‐July  4:  Firework  Sales  July  16-‐20:  Camp  On  The  Lake  Some   of   these   events   require   forms   and   deposits   and   others   just   a   sign   up.    Please  check  the  youth  info  booth  for  more  information  or  contact  the  church  office.

Musical  Notes

Psalm  111:1

Hallelujah  I  will  praise  the  Lord  with  all  my  heart  in  the

assembly  of  the  upright  and  in  the  congregation.  I  just  wanted  to  take  a  moment  and  say  thank  you  to  everyone  who  has  given  of  their  time,  efforts,  and

talents  to  make  the  Bridge  a  reality.      There  has  been  hours  upon  hours  given  and  we  could  of  not  done  it  without  you.      It  truly  was  a  gift  to  watch  our  church

come  together  side  by  side  and  complete  this  monumental  task.      We  have  already  seen  people

impacted  and  touched    in  the  first  two  weeks  and  we  have  only  just  begun.      I    look  forward  with  great  antisipation  to  how  the  Lord  will  use  the  Bridge  to  minister  in  our  church    and  cummunity.      I  want  to

encourage  everyone  to  continue  to  pray  for  all  of  our  services,    ministries,  and  cummittees  as  we  seek

direction  and  guidence  from  the  Lord  for  First  Lamesa  as  we  long  to  see  people  reached  and  lives  changed

for  His  honor  and  glory.

Luke  10:  27  The  Parable  of  the  Good  Samaritan

Love  the  Lord  your  God  with  all  your  heart,  with  all  your  soul,  with  all  your  strength  and  with  all  your

mind;  and  your  neighbor  as  yourself.

We  are  called  to  make  a  difference.

Psalm  113:  2-‐3

Let  the  Name  of  the  Lord  be  praised  both  now  and

Paul’s  Gift  to  the  Philippians

In  A.D.  61/62,  Paul  was  confined  to  jail  in  Rome.    At  this  stage  of  his  life,  he  had  completed  three  Missionary  Journeys,  plus  a  fourth  arduous  trip  to  Rome  to  appear  before  the  Roman  Emperor.  While  in  Rome,  he  received  a  gift  from  the  church  at  Philippi.    The  Letter  to  the  Philippians  was  a  response  to  the  Philippians’  generosity,  together  with  an  admonition  against  a  dangerous  heresy  that  threatened  the  existence  of  the  church.

The  church  at  Philippi  was  founded  on  Paul’s  Second  Missionary  Journey  (A.D  49-‐52).      Paul  and  Silas,  in  answer  to  a  visionary  call  for  help  in  Macedonia,  had  traveled  to  Philippi.  There  they  met  Lydia  who  listened  to  their  message  and  was  baptized  along  with  her  entire  household.  Lydia  allowed  the  missionaries  to  use  her  home  as  headquarters  for  their  ministry  in  Philippi.    Paul  and  Silas  interfered  with  the  business  of  fortune  telling  and  an  angry  slave-‐owner  had  them  flogged  by  the  authorities  and  thrown  into  jail.  An  earthquake  damaged  the  jail  so  badly  that  Paul  and  Silas  could  easily  have  escaped.    Instead  of  leaving  the  jail,  Paul  and  Silas  stayed  and  witnessed  to  the  jailer  who  was  baptized,  along  with  his  entire  family.    Thus,  Paul  and  Silas  left  town  with  the  foundation  of  a  strong  church  in  place.  (Acts  16:12-‐40)

The  church  prospered  and  grew  during  the  ten  years  that  elapsed  between  its’  founding  and  Paul’s  completion  of  a  third  Missionary  Journey  and  his  trip  to  Rome  in  answer  to  a  charge  brought  against  him  in  Jerusalem.

As  Paul  endured  the  imprisonment  in  Rome,  he  no  doubt  thought  of  all  the  churches  he  had  been  instrumental  in  founding  in  answer  to  his  own  call  on  the  road  to  Damascus  to  be  God’s  missionary  to  the  Gentiles.

In  his  letter  he  began  by  stating  “I  thank  my  God  every  time  I  remember  you”  (Phil.  1:3).    He  follows  with  his  confidence  that  “He  who  began  a  good  work  in  you  will  carry  it  on  to  completion  until  the  day  of  Christ  Jesus.”(Phil.  1:6)

Paul      changes  the  tone  of  his  letter  when  he  warns:      “Watch  out  for  those  dogs,  those  men  who  do  evil,  those  mutilators  of  the  flesh.”  (Phil  3:2)

Who  better  then  Paul  could  have  pointed  to  his  long  length  of  service,  the  many  hardships  he  had  endured,  and  the  threat  of  imminent  death,  to  respond  to  their  plight  with  a  warning  and  the  hope  that  they  could  survive  this  threat  and  simply  wished  them  well  in  dealing  with  their  adversity.

Instead  he  gave  them  a  priceless  gift  :  ”Forgetting  what  is  behind  and  straining  toward  what  lies  ahead,  I  press  on  toward  the  goal  to  win  the  prize  for  which  God  has  called  me  heavenward  in  Christ  Jesus.    All  of  you  who  are  mature  should  take  such  a  view  of  things.    (Phil.  3:13-‐15)

Yours  in  Christ                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Wayne
