Hello Everyone,
As you will see from the account of
last month, May has been busy and it
has been great to watch, observe and
smile at seeing happy faces.
Care Centre Entrance
On a serious note, I want to apologise
for the amount of time the entrance
has been out of action. We had some
problems with the supplier of the
electric doors and at the last minute
had to find an alternative which then
put the job back significantly.
However it should be open and
normal service to resume by the time
you read this newsletter!
Garden Party: 1.00p.m to 4.00p.m on
Saturday 13th July.
Please don’t forget about our Garden
Party. We are serving afternoon tea
and its only £5.00 per person. All
previous events have always been a
great success and we are very much
looking forward to this one.
Thank you for reading this
newsletter, celebrating May’s special
days for our residents.
Jayne Carnall
Registered Manager
And now for a reflection from Sr.
Eileen Keating pbvm:
Whether we are looking forward to
putting our feet up or preparing for an
action-packed adventure, the benefits
of a good holiday are invaluable, says
Gerald O’Mahony SJ. Slowing down
and gearing up can both be ways of
following God’s will if they lead us
towards consolation.
Human beings need a rhythm of work
and rest in order to live up to their
God-given potential. Just as God
gives people important work to do,
God also asks peole to rest
periodically from their labour.
Refreshment means restoring
strength, energy and vigour. A light
snack is sometimes referred to as a
‘refreshment’. Physical refreshment
can also come, for example, form
sleep, rest, or exercise
Paul tells Philemon that he has
‘refreshed the hearts of the saints’
(Philemon 7). Later on in the letter,
Paul asks him to ‘refresh my heart in
Christ’ (v.20). How do we find
emotional and spiritual refreshment?
But how do we refresh our minds,
hearts and souls?
Because we are physical creatures,
we must take time out to rest and
renew ourselves. How refreshing it is
on our jobs to take a few minutes out
for a time of relaxation. We go back
to our work refreshed and
rejuvenated. We have all
experienced the frustration of trying
to solve a problem or find a mistake.
We take a few minutes out and return
to find the mistake or the solution
very soon.
If we do not take time out we will
burn out. But if we want to work all
the time. We need time out. We are
not like the battery that keeps on
going and going. But even batteries
give out sometimes. Even batteries
have to take a time out. Even
machines need a rest. You cannot run
your cars for miles and miles. Sooner
or later you have to take it in for a
check up. You have to call time out.
Sooner or later you are going to have
to put some petrol in the tank. We
have to call time out for our cars.
Some of us bring the problems of the
job home with us. We worry and
stew about what happened on the job.
Take time out from the burdens of the
job. Spend some quality time with
family, and friends. Time out is nor
permanent. It is only temporary.
When we take a holiday, whether it is
a week or a weekend, the holiday will
end and we have to go back to work.
We call time in after we call time out.
After time out is over we have to get
back in the game. The player cannot
tell the coach that she doe nor feel
like going back into the game. She
cannot tell the coach that she wants to
stay on the bench for the rest of the
game. The coach tells her to get back
in the game. “We need you in order
to win the game.”
There is work to be done. We must
work while it is yet day because night
comes when we cannot work. We
must get back in the game so we can
work for the Master.
We call time out for rest and
refreshment. We call time out for
reflection. We call time out for return
to the game of life.
All of us whether we know it or not
are in the game of life. There are no
spectators in this game. We are all
participants.
Jesus is the one who got me started in
this game. He put running in my feet,
a song in my heart.
Enjoy the break, then come back
refreshed ready to cope with
awkward questions.

"In June, as many as a dozen species
may burst their buds on a single
day. No man can heed all of these
anniversaries; no man can ignore all
of them."
- Aldo Leopold
"On this June day the buds in my
garden are almost as enchanting as
the open flowers. Things in bud
bring, in the heat of a June noontide,
the recollection of the loveliest days
of the year - those days of May
when all is suggested, nothing yet
fulfilled."
- Francis King
"I know well
that the June rains
just fall."
- Onitsura
"Wisteria woke me this morning,
And there was all June in the
garden;
I felt them, early, warning
Lest I miss any part of the day.
Straight I walked to the trellis vine.
Wisteria touched a lifted nostril:
Feelings of beauty diffused, to
entwine
My spirit with June's own aura."
