PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
We may be entering the final weeks of Term 2 but
there is still lots happening and lots to look forward to.
This Friday our Year 5 and 6 students will represent
their school in the 2017 NSW Primary School Sports
Association (PSSA) Small Schools KO Soccer
Competition. They will compete at Lithgow against a
Bathurst school - O’Connell Public School. Go
Arcadia! It will be a great day out and I thank Mr
Codling for organising it, as well as, the
accompanying parents (cheer squad).
Public Speaking
It will be a pleasure to welcome student leaders from
Galston High School on Friday 23 June as they
attend our Arcadia PS Public Speaking assembly as
guests. The quality and manner of presentation of the
speeches have been excellent. Its evidence of the
effort and pride that the students put into their
speeches when the very first thing they want to know
in the morning is when can they say it!
APS Athletics Carnival - 1st Day for Term 3
We are really keeping you on your toes. Our school
athletics carnivals will be held on the very first day of
next term - July 18. The Sportspro teachers are
currently teaching sprinting and race techniques to
the students and they will organise the long jump
competition at school after lunch on Thursday, June
29. You are welcome to attend. As usual, the
athletics carnival will be at Les Shaw oval at Glenorie,
kicking off at 9:30am. The day always has a great
fun, picnic feel and I hope you can come along and
cheer for the children. A BBQ order form will be sent
home next week to be returned before the end of
term. As reported in the previous newsletters the
P&C are spreading the load by allocating events to
the different classes through the class parent. The

class will be informed this week. Please send along
baked goods or treats to be sold on the day. Thank
you.
APS Band
We are very proud of our school band. Their
performance of Advance Australia Fair at the ANZAC
service was excellent. They will soon inspire future
musicians, performing at the Galston Early Learning
Centre on Thursday, June 29. Thank you very much
to Mr Ciccarelli and the parents who will assist with
transport aka the roadies.
Student Reports
Semester One student reports will be sent home on
Friday, June 23. As usual, if you have any questions
please arrange a time to speak with the class
teacher. It is important for Year One parents to
remember that Kindergarten report grades are for
effort only while Year One reports on effort and
achievement. Come along to P&C tonight. Everyone
is welcome.
Best wishes, Sharon O’Brien

I’M HEADING TO HIGH SCHOOL
Year 6 attended an inspiring session of how to face the changes they will encounter when moving on to
High School. Paul Wade, the ex-Socceroo Captain told us his story to illustrate how he coped with
changes he has experienced in his life.
It was a personal and challenging presentation full of thought provoking ideas, fun activities and delivered
in a meaningful way. Such a good experience for the students!
Paul Wade told us not to give up on hard things and to keep on trying…because transitioning to High
School is a quick thing and you need to get used to it speedily…’You can’t control the wind but you
can turn the sails. By Kobi
Paul said a lot about being persistent in what you want to do. Learning to work with whoever you get
put with. You shouldn’t be afraid of something that’s new. He had a lot to say and it was very useful in
moving on to High School….we had fun playing soccer as well….finding someone new to work with
was fun. By Rose
I felt that it was telling us that lots of things will happen…it’s about
adapting and told us to accept change and about how to go about
solving things. It will also be ‘cool’ to make new friends when we get
there. Allow yourself to experience different things. By Liam
In the games we learnt to meet other people and how to cooperate
with people you didn’t already know. Paul was brave as he told us
about how he has coped with his own challenges. His main message
was ‘Never give up!’ So now I’m thinking about going to High School
and being ready and how to cope with the change ahead. By Lara
Thanks to Tim Cashman who helped transport a number of students
both to and from the event.
