He was Kevin Barry Division’s oldest member, serv- ing as president in 2004. In 2013 he re- ceived the Hibernian President’s Award, the division’s highest honor. John was also a proud 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of or participant in many church committees and activities, and at- tended daily Mass at either St. John, St. Mary, St. Roch, Holy Rosary or Sacred Heart churches most of his life. John was born Aug. 2, 1918, to Louis and Mary Reimer. He grew up on the Near Southside, graduating from Sacred Heart H. S. in 1936. He was president of his sen- ior class. An Army veteran of WW II, John retired as a pharmaceutical sales rep in 1977. A bachelor, he was known for his wit and storytelling. At his passing, he still lived in his own home near Southern Plaza. St. Patrick’s Celebration Postponed On March 12, Governor Holcomb announced guidelines in regard to host- ing events during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Included in these guidelines is a re- striction on hosting events with an atten- dance that exceeds 250 guests. Our annual St. Patrick's Celebration involves over 500 people when including both guests and hospitality staff. Our leadership considered several op- tions for going forward with the event on March 15th. Specifically, we were tasked with deciding whether we could fairly and effectively lower our attendance to 225 people in a 12-hour window, minimize rev- enue loss, maintain the quality of the event, and ensure the health and safety of our guests. We found no viable path forward, and we believe that a postponement is war- ranted. The officers of Kevin Barry Division 3 and members of our planning committee are determined to reschedule our 150th Celebration yet this year, and we hope that you will join us and continue to sup- port our efforts. Those who have pur- chased tickets will be guaranteed seats at the rescheduled Celebration--the date is to be determined. Tom Branson - President AOH

The President’s Award winner is Jim Lynch. That’s me! It has been my pleasure to do the newsletter for the last 15 years. It has been extremely interesting, rewarding and a learning experience to report the pos-itive news of the Irish and the Hibernians. The positive news was my one personal goal. I hope I stuck to that! I consider this award a great honor and am grateful in accepting. Thanks! Additionally, I do realize this newsletter is not one of my happiest to report, but I be-lieve our leadership has handled the current situation as well as it can be handled.
