October Principal: Katherine Holman Deputy Principal: Terry Minos
Diary Dates 2019
From the Principal – Katherine Holman
Welcome back to Term 4. We trust you all had an
enjoyable holiday and are rested and ready to return to
school. This term is always very busy with lots of
events and tends to fly by.
During Monday’s Pupil Free Day staff took part in
our Annual Site Self Review where we analysed our
academic and perception data in order to plan how we
move forward and continue to improve learning for
our students. It was a very positive and productive
day. Staff felt enthusiastic about the progress made
starting this term with working towards future
directions.
Thank you to all the families who took the time to
complete the online parent survey. We had a record
amount of replies (over 100). Not only did people
complete the survey but many took the time to
provide us with specific feedback. This feedback is
really important to us and when compared to the
student and staff surveys provides us with really clear
information about the areas we are excelling in as a
school and the areas that our community would like to
see some improvement in. The feedback has been
overwhelmingly positive. Out of a maximum score of
5, our school achieved a rating of 4 or above in the
majority of categories. The graphs will be published
in the Annual Report and will be distributed to the
community early next year.
Below is a summary from the analysis of the data.

Class Placements - 2020
Just a reminder that this term we will be looking at placing children into classes for 2020.Teachers have not been allocated to year
levels at this stage and our staffing will not be finalised until late in the year. We hope to be able to notify students and parents of
2020 class placements by the end of week 8.
It is extremely important for our planning that we have accurate numbers, therefore we need to know of any new enrolments and
of any families with children in Reception to Year 6 who will not be attending our school in 2020. Please notify us asap if you are
leaving or enrolling a new student.
Teachers spend an enormous amount of time considering the allocation of students to classes. Teachers ask the children in their
class to nominate students they would like to be placed with. If there are no valid reasons why the children cannot be placed
together we make every effort to ensure all children are placed with at least one friend. If there has been a friendship issue
historically this information stills needs to be re-submitted for 2020 if it is still relevant.
Class structures are largely determined by numbers of children in year levels and the number of staff we are allocated for the
beginning of the year. We will be using a program called class creator which allocates students to classes for us ensuring they are
balanced.
Some of the factors we consider include:
friendship groups
gender balance
academic ability
a balance of students that show leadership skills
maturity and independence
behaviour
We are happy for parents / care givers to advise us with information, in writing, that they would like to be considered for 2020
placements. Please use the proforma provided in this newsletter. Some parents may have genuine reasons to request that a
friendship is considered when we are making placements. However we are not able to accommodate requests for groups of
children to be kept together. As stated students have the opportunity to request up to 5 friends.
We do not take requests for individual teachers or for children to not be placed with individual teachers.
Letters need to be returned to the school no later than the Friday 25th October.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2020 Class Placement: Information for consideration
A separate sheet must be used for each child.
Please note you cannot request individual teachers. Students from years
1 to 6 will nominate 5 friends each through their class. If you are requesting friendships there can be no more
than two names. We endeavour to place students with at least one of their nominated friends.
Please note Reception students have a separate class placement form to complete. Please see the Reception
teachers or the Front Office for a copy.
To be returned to school no later than Friday 25th
October

like to share
some of our
favourite
moments from
2019
SWIMMING
DIARIES
We had our swimming week
in Term 1. During the
swimming week our
instructors taught us lots of
things. They even took all
the groups to the deep end of
the pool to swim. It was a lot
fun.- Kaylee
Planetarium
This year Room 7 and 11
went to the planetarium. It
was very exciting because it
was my first time! We learnt
a lot about the planets and
stars in our Solar System.
They showed us the stars on
the projector. The short film
Wildest Weather in the Solar
System explained a lot about
our Solar System in detail.
Did you know it rains
diamonds on Uranus! It was
very interesting. – Jacob
Yarrow/Lachlan
It rains diamonds in
the colder planets
such as Uranus,
Neptune and some
are also seen in the
Saturn rings.

Book Week 2019
This year’s Book Week Theme
was – Reading is my Superpower.
We all got a chance to dress up as
our favourite superhero. Our
parade was lots of fun and it was
exciting to see so many children
and teachers dress up for it. We
had Jane Jolly come to our school
and it was fascinating to hear her
talk about mixing fact and fiction
together to make a faction story.
- Amy-Lee and Chloe
Dental for Schools 2019
We had the mobile dental
van visit our school this
year. It was exciting as many
of us got our teeth checked
up. We received so much
information about how to
take care of our teeth and the
right way brushing our teeth
too. - Jai-Lee and Tayah

Science with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students
In Term 3 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across the school participated in Science lessons on
Thursdays with Mrs Spartley. The primary students learnt about mixtures and solutions. They conducted a range of
experiments to create their own mixtures and solutions as well as learn how to separate them. Students used a
variety of techniques such as chromatography, magnetism, sieving and hand picking. They created a poster about
what they had learnt.
The junior primary students topic was ‘Changing Landscapes’ and they explored the school to find natural, managed
and constructed landscapes. The students then created their own park to include these 3 different types. We
discussed why some natural landscapes are important to the Aboriginal people around Australia. We also observed
and discussed the weather, seasons, day and night.

End of Term 3 School Disco
Our Junior Primary and Primary Discos run by the SRC on the last day of Term 3 were fantastic. The students had helped with the soundtracks and our student DJs did an excellent job. The money from the Casual / Disco Day will be given to a charity that supports the SRC focus of caring for the environment, animals in our environment and our community. It was a great way to finish off a very busy term.
