AnnouncementsCoffee MorningThank you to those parents who were able to attend the coffee morning on Tuesday; we had a great turn out once again! Your comments and feedback are always invaluable. I have collated the feedback; a copy of the notes will be distributed shortly to read and I will share your suggestions with the rest of the staff.

I am delighted to announce that we have appointed two Deputy Headteachers for the Primary school who will take up their posts after the Easter break. Nichola West is currently teaching at William Torbitt Primary school and Gareth

Marshall-Jones at Hilldene Primary School. They are experienced senior leaders and will support Ms Broadway with the management and leadership of the curriculum, assessment, teaching and learning and staff training. They will also serve on the all-through Senior Leadership Team. They will introduce themselves to you shortly!

Composer of the FortnightFor the next week we will be listening to and learning about Robert Schumann as our Composer of the Fortnight. As a suggested activity to support at home, you could gather some facts about Schumann in preparation for the coming weeks. Information can also be found on the following youtube link.

Messages from Ms ChaggarThank you very much to WILKINSON in the Ilford Exchange for donating lots of goodies to the school (Also thanks to Arjun and Kallum’s mum, for telling them about us). There’s a mixture of toys, games and arts & crafts bits that will all go to good use!

When calling in to report an absence, before 8.15am, please leave a message on the answer machine if there is no answer. The machine is checked regularly. At times the office staff are busy dealing with a parent/ visitor or taking another call, so are not always able to take the call immediately.

We have a very limited collection of spare clothes to lend to children if they have an accident in school. If you have any items of school clothing, please wash and return to school as soon as possible.

If your child requires any medication in school please drop it into Ms Rayner and Ms Chaggar in the office as you will need to complete a form before any medication is administered

Safeguarding ChildrenAs part of their curriculum, the children learn how to keep themselves safe. The following website has been set up by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to offer parents and schools advice on how to raise safeguarding awareness with children. There is a notable section called ‘The Underwear Rule’ which is of particular relevance to parents. The website also offers advice regarding ‘online safety’ and how to obtain support or advice regarding the safeguarding of children..

Enrichment ClubsThe enrichment letters have been put in your child’s book bag - please return the form to the school office no later than Monday 1st February.

Message from the Year 1 TeamA plea for Socks!

We would appreciate if you could bring in any unwanted odd socks (clean and colourful, the more unusual the better), in preparation for our topic learning! We will need 1 per child, so the more the merrier with your odd sock donations!

Mathematics Mastery Workshop - (Year 1 and Reception Parents) – Wednesday 3rd February 6.00-7.00pm

This workshop was run last year for the Reception parents to introduce the Mathematics Mastery approach that we use in school. It was really well attended and we know that the parents found the workshop very useful. Similarly to last year, we aim to introduce the approach to the Reception parents as well as talk to Year 1 parents about how the programme has developed for Year 1 and explain how you can support your child at home. To ensure we set out enough space and resources for the event, we ask that you contact the Primary office staff to confirm your attendance. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

Message from the Reception Team

Could you please provide and upload any evidence you can capture of your child using money this week on Tapestry. This could perhaps be in a shop, paying for something, or whilst role-playing shops at home, along with their understanding of how much each coin is worth, how we pay for things etc. We would also like any evidence of your child sharing family celebrations; again, please upload your photos or evidence on to Tapestry.

Tapestry A number of parents have asked about the sharing of photographs on Tapestry that include other children too. Parents really like the Tapestry tool and being able to share work that their child has done. However when another child is involved, all the faces are blurred out, including their own child’s. We have discussed this with other Ark schools and collectively agreed that if you are happy to sign a form for your child’s picture to be shared and seen by other parents – then we can change the format for all.A consent letter will be in your child’s bag for you to sign if you are happy for your child’s pictures to be seen along with other children’s. Please do not hesitate to speak to us if you would like further clarification.

Every week each teacher chooses two children from their class to receive a certificate in assembly, one in recognition of a child demonstrating our BRIDGES habit of the

week, and the other in recognition of a pupil’s academic effort throughout the week.

Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and ability to achieve their full potential.

At Isaac Newton Academy every student is set the target of 100% attendance.

The class with the highest attendance at the end of every week is awarded the attendance trophy during Friday’s Award & Recognition assembly.

Congratulations to Maxwell class, who are the winners for this week. It was a very close one with Britten and Glennie chasing Maxwell’s heels! Who will be the first class to reach 100% this half term?

National average attendance for primary schools is 96.1%

"We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” Isaac Newton BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner.

There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be introduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certificate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week.

Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel above
