KHS has TalentCongratulations to Jianynne Anastacio, Brittany Biles and Jessie Robins on making it through to the Mission Austra-lia Urban Quest semi fi nals. These students will now sing to impress Mark ‘touch down’ Holden, Deni Hines and Paul Costa at Casuarina Square on Friday April 13 for their shot at making the Finals. We encourage everyone to head to Casuarina and sup-port the girls. The Semi Final kicks off at 4pm. You can also follow the girls progress on Mission Aus-tralia’s Facebook page.

Principal’s UpdateCongratulations to everyone for all their hard work this term. Reports have been completed with many students achieving some excellent results. We are currently updating our website, so please be patient as we improve its functionality and appearance.Hopefully the ‘Dry Season’ ar-rives so everyone enjoys their break that little bit more. Look-ing forward to what should be a very exciting Term 2.

Year 11 Summary The Year 11’s have been very busy with the transition into all Stage 1 and 2 classes. It has been a successful term with many participating in NTOEC courses, VET training courses and Stage 2 classes. All stu-dents have been adapting to the increased workloads and focusing on handing in assess-ment items on time. Keep up the good work Year 11.

Daisie ThomasYear 11 Coordinator

Year 12 Summary It has been a great fi rst term with many events and opportu-nities. In Week 2 students were able to participate in an induc-tion day which covered topics such as school policies, SACE policies, upcoming events, and study skills. The staff also hosted a morning tea at the start of the term, where Year 12 students and staff could mingle in a more casual setting. Most of the Year 12’s actively participated and supported the swimming car-nival, which was good to see. Classes are now in full swing and students should use the up-coming break to catch up on any study and assignments that they have, but to also get some well deserved rest.

Enrichment Update Tech StudiesYear 9 Design and Tech stu-dents have been construct-ing a rather challenging metal project. The Junior Hacksaw Project involves precise mark-ing out, drilling, thread cut-ting, heat bending and core metal lathe operations. Stu-dents have made two other projects to learn and practice skills which are applied to this fi nal task. Some students have excelled in the practical com-ponent of this course. Next term the class will move next door and commence the woodwork program.

Performing ArtsCongratulations to all the Yr 7, 8 and 9 Performing Arts classes on choreographing and per-forming their fi rst dance. Stu-dents put in a lot of effort to work together with their group members and create dances that were in time and creative!

ArtCreative Arts and Visual Art stu-dents have been getting into their individual practical works. These works include print mak-ing, tie-dyeing, mosaic, clay and painting. These are works in projects, which will keep them busy for the next few weeks.Home EcThe Year 7’s have excitedly completed a practical test with excellent results. Many of the students put a lot of thought and effort into the presentation of their pikelets. Year 8s although noisy are very capable and all of them seem to be enjoying their cooking practicals. Year 12s have had a slow start to the year however, the major-ity of them are working hard to improve their practical skills.

Harmony Day March 23Harmony Day celebrations were a great success. Teachers and students had fun partici-pating in the sports and poster competition. The international BBQ of Italian sausage, kan-garoo tail stew, damper and kebabs was enjoyed by all. The highlight of the day was the MOB Dance performed by the teachers as the assembly and the great Bollywood perfor-mance. Well done to all who participated and contributed to the day’s activities.

Learn About YourselfAs Marcel Proust, a late 19th century novelist, wrote: “the real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes”. Host an interna-tional high school student in July 2012 through Southern Cross Cultural Exchange and prepare to be amazed at the way this unique op-portunity helps your fam-ily to become closer, to un-derstand themselves better and to see the world in a new light. Carefully selected students will arrive in July for one or two semesters from France, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Swe-den. They will attend a local secondary school, are fully insured and have their own spending money.Call S.C.C.E now on 1800 500 501, email [email protected] or visit our website (www.scce.com.au) to be part of this rewarding expe-rience.
