Being the best we can be for ourselves and God’s world Newsletter No. 36 2 nd May 2019 S T M A R T I N S C o f E P R I M A R Y S C H O O L Dear Parents We were absolutely delighted with the response to our parent workshops this week; it was so lovely to see so many of you in school and the staff felt energised and enthused by your positive response to the evening. I would like to share some of the quotes from the feedback sheets with you:- All the workshops were really interesting - it is lovely to hear how passionate the teachers are. We really hope there will be more of these - we will definitely attend. All of the sessions were great and I really appreciate gaining an understanding of what my children are learning and how we can help. I would like to have attended more than 3 workshops - I hope there is another one soon. Learning about the grammar and maths was so informative - very different from how I learnt at school. The workshops inspired me to want to learn more too and to share it with my children. I loved it - I told my child I was coming to learn about their learning. It was really nice to be able to put faces to names - I've seen people I didn't know before tonight but my children often talk about them. I enjoyed all the workshops and learned something in each one. Each workshop was so helpful. I found learning about the number lines very useful. Everything I learnt will help me with my daughter's homework. I would highly recommend attending - have come away with some great ideas. After such a positive response from you all we will definitely be putting on similar events in future and look forward to welcoming you.

Last week saw the inaugural run of our very own Junior Parkrun in Cranbrook, which will occur every Sunday. It is a fantastic event that happens across the country to encourage all of us to get out enjoy our surroundings and a little exercise together. The Junior Parkrun is open to all from 4 to 14 over a distance of 2km. Parents or older siblings are welcome to run with them. All you need is something comfortable to run in and your parkrun barcode, which can be obtained at www.parkrun.org.uk Whenever you run bring your barcode and when you finish we can record your time. Junior parkrun calculates the number of times you run and distance, towards a special wristband that adds up to half, full and ultra marathon distances. Parkrun is completely free, last week we had 71 people join and look forward to welcoming you all along. We start at 0845 for warm up and safety message. The run starts at 0900. For this week only we are having a special star wars themedrun, so if you fancy coming in fancy dress or with your light saber you will be welcomed by our enthusiastic and dedicated team of volunteers. Any questions search for Exeter College running club on facebook Regards Nick Partridge

JUNIOR PARK RUN

As you know we place a high priority on the importance of children being in school and each term all the children with 100% attendance have their names put into a prize draw and the winning child is given a present.

Can we please remind parents/ carers that registration is at 8:30am. If your child arrives after this time they will need to be signed in at the office for safety reasons.

Absence Reporting

If your child is going to be absent from school due to ill health can we please ask that all parents/ carers notify the school office by telephone (excluding Dojo) and not your child’s teacher.

You can report an absence via the Absence line 24 hours a day and it is vital that we know the whereabouts of our children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
