Trivia NightLast Friday night we celebrated the VCAL White Ribbon Trivia Night planned and organised by the Year 11 and 12 VCAL students. There were 15 teams and approximately 120 in attendance. Guests were welcomed by White Ribbon Advocate, Simone O’Brien. It was a great night with 10 rounds of trivia and fun games in between. The night was made possible by the support of many local businesses who donated prizes for the night. All money raised will be donated to local programs who support victims of domestic violence. SPORTS NEWSJunior Boys FootballWe had a mix of Year 7 and 8 students in the Year 8 Boys Football Team who played in Stawell recently.

The team started well defeating Stawell College comfortably 21-2. The second game saw the boys up against Marian College. It was a close game but the boys finished on top, 28-18, which meant that they faced Horsham College in the final. The boys were undermanned and undersized and fought hard, but eventually went down 63-19.

Best players throughout the day were Adrianne Lupton, Judd Wright, Jordy Keyte, Hunter Campey and Reece Hammond. Brady Mann and Judd Wrigh both kicked three goals each.Overall it was a great effort by the boys and they represented the school with pride.

(Apologies from the coaches - there was too much action on the field so there aren't any photos)

Intermediate Boys FootballLast week our Intermediate Boys Football Team played in the Black Ranges competition. The students played at a great standard throughout the day. They game was close against Marian College, but the Marian boys won by just 5 points. The game against Ararat College was a great win due to the determination, skill and team play.

Standout players on the day were Nick Pizzoni, Riley Hall, Gus Geue, Isaiah Adams, Harry Miller and Judah Hobbs.

Senior Boys BasketballLast week we had two Senior Boys Teams play in the Black Ranges Basketball. Both teams played well throughout the day, with Team B winning against Edenhope in the final game.Although the boys didn't come away as triumphant as they hoped, they showed great

BLACK COCKATOOYounger Reader Category

'Black Cockatoo' is a vignette that follows Mia, a young Aboriginal girl as she explores the fragile connections of family and culture. Mia is a 13-year-old girl from a remote community in the Kimberley. She is saddened by the loss of her brother as he distances himself from the family. She feels powerless to change the things she sees around her, until one day she rescues her totem animal, the dirran black cockatoo, and soon discovers her own inner strength. A wonderful small tale on the power of standing up for yourself, culture and ever-present family ties.
