NOVY BOR AND MONTE CARLO NEW EUROPEAN CLUB

CHAMPIONS

Chess Club G-Team Novy Bor from

Czech Republic in Men's Group and

Cercle d'Echecs de Monte Carlo are the

winners of the 29th European Chess

Club Cup, which was held in Rhodes

19-27 October, 2013, in Rodos Palace.

Novy Bor defeated Minsk in the last round with 4.5-1.5, and with 6 wins, including

the victory against last year's champion SOCAR, and one draw with Russian

Malachite, they won the title with one point ahead.

Second place went to Malachite, who assured the silver medal with 4-2 win in the

last round against Rostov. Bronze medal went to SOCAR, who tied with Saint

Petersburg and Clichy Echecs 92, but due to the better tie-break they took the medal.

In Women's Section CE de Monte Carlo defended the title and became the

Cahmpion for the fifth time. This great achievement was possible thanks to the great

team Monte Carlo has: Hou Yifan, Humpy Koneru, Anna Muzychuk, Pia Cramling

and Almira Skripchenko. They won all their matches and with 14 points they

assured the title even one round before the end.

Silver went to Ugra with 10 points, and bronze went to another Russian team SHSM

Nashe Nsledie, who tied with Mika for the third place, but thaks to the better tie-

break they won the medal.

FIRST OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT OF THE PROGRAM “CHESS

IN SCHOOL” HELD IN SLIVNITSA

School "St. St. Cyril and Methodius"to be twinned with a Spanish school from

Vigo, Galicia in order to develop the program of the European Chess Union

On 23rd of October, 2013 at the school

"St. St. Cyril and Methodius", Slivnitsa,

was held the first official chess

tournament of the program "Chess in

School" of the European Chess Union.

The best players among the students

who have chosen to study chess as a

subject according to the project of the

European Chess Union showed their knowledge and strength in seven rounds rapid

chess.

The competition was held in two age categories - 2nd - 4th grade and 5th - 7th

grade. The winners are as follows:

- 2nd - 4th grade: 1. Rosen Videnov 2. Elina Vangelova 3.Vanyo Nikolov

- 5th - 7th grade: 1. Dimitar Krastanov 2. Konstantin Petrov 3. Alexander Pavlov

The tournament was held under the auspices of the European Chess Union and was

officially opened by the Mayor of Slivnitsa Mr. Vasko Stoilkov, the ECU Press

Director Mr. Boyko Hristov and the Executive Director of the local chess club

"Slivnishki geroi", Mr. Emil Mladenov.

On 26th of October, 2012 the ECU President Silvio Danailov officially opened the

first school chess year in the school “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”. Slivnitsa became

the first municipality in the European Union to introduce chess as a subject in its

schools according to the ECU program – “Chess in School”.

The news about the joint initiative of the European Chess Union and the

municipality of Slivnitsa received wide international response and was reported by

many media, even by European political newspapers like the Brussels based edition

“New Europe” and others.

Impressed by the introduction of chess as a subject in school "St. St. Cyril and

Methodius" influential German public television station ZDF sent a team of

journalists in the city and broadcast a great story about an interesting initiative.

Twinning between the school in Slivnitsa and a Spanish school from Vigo, Galicia in

order to cooperate according to the ECU program "Chess in School" is imminent in

the near future. The twinning will provide possibilities for realization of many very

interesting initiatives such as online events and tournaments, exchange of visits,

development of joint projects for European funding and many others.

GUIDO NEUBERGER WINS THE LIECHTENSTEIN NATIONAL

CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2013

Guido Neuberger (SUI, ELO-2096) won the Liechtenstein

National Chess Championship 2013 with final result of 4

points out of 5 and better tie-break than the second in the

ranking CM Marcel Mannhart (LIE, ELO-2070). Third was

CM Andras Guller (LIE, ELO-2093) – 3.5/5.

The Liechtenstein National Chess Championship was held on October 18-20, 2013 in

Bendern.

Chief-Arbiter of the tournament, organized by the Liechtenshtein Chess Federation,

was IA Albert Baumberger, the average ELO – 1940.

KLAUS SCHWARZMEIER WINS THE AUSTRIAN BLITZ

CHAMPIONSHIP 2013

Klaus Schwarzmeier (GER, ELO-2104) won the Austrian

Blitz Chess Championship 2013 with 11 points out of 13.

Second finished Alman Durakovic (BIH, ELO-2236) with

the same result. Third was FM Engelbert Schöppl (AUT-

ELO-2142) with 9 points.

The Austrian Blitz Chess Championship was held on 26th

of October in Salzburg.

Chief-Arbiter of the tournament, organized by the Austrian Chess Federation, was

IA Gerhard Herndl. The average ELO rating was 1706. Thirty eight players

competed for the title.

VLADIMIR BEZNOSIKOV WINS RUSSIAN SENIOR CHESS

CHAMPIONSHIP 2013

Vladimir Beznosikov (ELO-2290) won

the Russian Senior Chess Championship

with final result of 7 points out of 9.

Second finished Yurij Balashov (ELO-

2435) on a half point distance from the

winner. Third was Yurij Gorshkov

(ELO-2266) – 6.5/9.

The Russian Senior Chess Championship was held on October 15-25, 2013. Chief-

Arbiter was V. Miakutin. One hudred and six chess players took part in the

competition for the title.
