October Staff Superlatives! Exceptional teachers, staff members, and interactive commu-nication channels are the backbone of our great school. When we have these essential ele-ments in place, they allow us to provide the type of teaching and learning experiences for ourstudents that create the level of readiness needed for high school, college, and tomorrow’shigh demand jobs. Teachers and Support Staff deserve all the recognition that we can givethem. On that note, we are proud to announce the September, Outstanding Teacher, StaffMember, and Digital Integration Teacher of the Month recipients. With these recognition's,

teachers and staff members will have a sign hung above their classroom door, a feature on thewebsite, a formal presentation in front of their students, preferred parking for the recognitionperiod, a spotlight in the newsletter, and a feature on the school's blog,

Teacher: Mr. Ryan Crothers: Ryan Crothers has served as an excellent departmentchair this year as well as our chorus teacher. He always keeps us informed and “in the

loop”. He is very efficient at holding meetings, and I appreciate his organized way of honor-

ing our time. He get's it!

Mr. Crothers leads by example. He is helpful and encouraging with a heart for problemsolving. He has a brilliant mind and is committed to utilizing the best of ideas to every-

one's beneit. We are very fortunate that Mr. Crothers is part of our IMS Family.

Congratulations to Mr. Crothers, our October Teacher of the Month!

Staff : Mr. Donald Lorick: Our October Staff of the Month is Mr. DonaldLorick, a member of our custodial team. As demonstrated in the words of his col-leagues below he has been a valuable member of our team for many years.“Everyday the lights are on, fences unlocked; doors opened and security assured.Everyday the bags and bags of what we throw away will find its way to recycling andtrash because he cares and takes his duties as honorable as life itself. Everyday forover 30 years his devotion to work is without fail and his commitment unwavering.Everyday he presents a smile and a positive attitude for everyone whom he sees andgreets. This man loves the tasks set before him and takes them on to claim dominionover them. This man's heart is so enlarged and strengthened to match its demands; this man is a person to truly

take notice of and try to rise to the occasion of his exemplary leadership without fail for over 30 years. Noticenext time the lights that are on, the doors that are unlocked and you feel safe and secure the footprints thatwent before yours every day for over 30 years to make it so.

”We truly appreciate everything Mr. Lorick does to make our campus a healthy, safe and secure place to be. Congratu

lations Mr. Lorick, our October Staff of the Month!

Digital Integration Teacher: Mr. Will Green

It is no surprise that we are honoring this teacher as our technology honoree ofthe month as demonstrated by the words of his colleagues. “A whiz with tech-nology, if his students aren’t doing some hands-on lab activity, they have theirdevices out creating diagrams that demonstrate science concepts, playing educa-

tional games, completing projects, or taking assessments. It’s always fun to walkby his classroom, peer into his window, and see what techy things he’s do-ing. He not only uses tons of technology in his classroom using a myriad of ap-plications and sites, he helps all of the 7th grade science teachers integrate more technology into their les-sons. As a TTL, he is available to help and in no way does he shame anyone for their lack of tech knowledge ortheir making mistakes that he has to fix.” Lastly, “He truly embodies the idea of taking us to a 1:1 school in all

that he does.” Congratulations to our October Digital Integration Teacher of the Month, Mr. Will Green.

These educators not only perform their respective jobs extremely well, they go above and beyond when calledupon to go the extra mile. All three consistently embody the essence of the #IrmoSTRONG spirit both in andout of the classroom. IMS is both very appreciative and extremely fortunate to count these professionals among

our faculty and staff. Join us in congratulating these incredible educators on their accomplishments.

    What are Individual

    Graduaon Plans (IGP)?

The Economic Development Act (EEDA) was passed in 2005. The implementaon of this law was designed to

beer prepare yourself for what you want to do aer high school and to help you and your parents/guardians

make informed decisions about your educaon and future. The core of this law is the idea of planning. You,

along with your parent, will begin to create an IGP in the 8th

grade as you prepare to enter the high school. Dur-

ing this me, you will select a cluster of study as you map out courses to take in high school. A career cluster is a

way of organizing classes around an occupaonal group. Each year in high school, you will review your IGP with

guidance counselor and changes can be made based on your interest.

The Guidance Department will be scheduling the IGP meengs for 8th

graders. You will receive a leer in the

mail over the next few of months which will have a scheduled appointment me. This meeng will allow your

student to choose a cluster of study. This plan can be changed and will be re-visited each year during registra-

on. If you have a conict or unable to aend the assigned appointment me, please contact Allison Redick at

803-476-3668 or email at [email protected]

    Tips for Parents

    In helping your child

    chose a Career path:

Start young. Develop career awareness by discuss-ing career opportunies when reading books and

    newspapers, watching television and observing

    worksites.

Support you child’s eorts to assess his or her own

interests, aptudes, values and work styles.

Share your job experiences. A child delights in hearing about his or her parents’ jobs.

Encourage parcipaon in job shadowing and internship opportunies.

Help your child understand the value and importance of his or her academic courses for success in a future

    career.

    6.  Advise your child that there is more than one educaon pathway to a good job. More than 50% of the fast-

est growing jobs require an associate’s degree. There are a variety of routes to success: on the job training,

technical college, four year college, apprenceships or the military.
