HAPPY NEW YEARA very warm welcome back to school

and a very Happy New Year to all our

    parents and friends.

OFFICIAL OPENINGOur New Year started with our Official

Opening Ceremony to officially open our

    new classroom extension. The Right

Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Chester,

Cllr Eleanor Johnson, with the help of

pupils Emily Cuthbert and Ellis Carroll

(who were the winners of our

competition to take up this role) cut the

ribbon and unveiled a plaque to

commemorate the day. All our visitors

and the children enjoyed a specially

made cake and a glass of fizz. (Thank

you to all the parents who worked hard

to make and decorate the cakes -

everyone said how lovely they were!)

Thank you if you were able to spare the

time to celebrate with us. I was reallypleased with the number of visitors from

the local community who came along to

    school.

    NEWS

ISSUE 1 / SPRING TERM 2012 / THURSDAY 12TH JANUARY 2012Thank you also to Marie Slater whotook some wonderful pictures during

the afternoon. I will display these in the

    school in due course.

    SCHOOL PHOTOS

I am sure many of you have seen the

lovely photos we have on display in our

new gallery area in school. I would like

to thank Yvette Owen who volunteered

    her services to

    take all the

    wonderfulpictures which

    really capture

    what Ashton

    Hayes Primary

    School is all

    about.

    CHRISTMAS

    FAIR

    It seems a long

    time ago, but it is

    still important to

remember all the hard work that went

into the Christmas Fair which we held

in the Village Hall. Many thanks to all

the parents who helped with the set up

of the fair and who helped run stalls

during the event. Also thanks to

everyone who went along to spend

their money! I am really pleased to

report that over 1000 was raised

during the evening. This money will be

put with other money in the PTFA bankaccount to invest in the school grounds

during the Spring months. As a school,

we hope to develop the grass area with

gardens and play equipment for the

    children...more about this soon!

    ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL

Can I take this opportunity to remind

you that it is very important that you

contact the school as soon as possible

if your children will not be in school

because they are ill, etc. We have a

duty of care to ensure that all the

children in school; if we do not hear

from you, we will phone you shortly

after 9.00am to enquire as to whereyour child(ren) is.

Can I also remind you that, where

    possible, family holidays should be

taken during the school holidays. This is

to reduce the educational impact of

children missing school. If this cannot be

avoided, a holiday request form is

available from the School Office or

home page of the school web site. I will

review each case to determine whether

    authorisation can be given.

    PLACES FOR RECEPTION IN

    SEPTEMBER 2012

The deadline to apply for a place in

    Reception for September is fast

approaching. All parents must apply for

a place even if they have children in the

school. Please logon to Cheshire West

and Chesters website and search for

    admissions to apply BEFORE 15th

    January 2012.

    WALK ON WEDNESDAY AND SMILE

As I have previously written, the school

is to be involved in an initiative to

increase awareness of a healthy lifestyle

and will support us making a choice to

walk to school. Each month we will have

a Walk on Wednesday, where I am

asking as many parents, children and

staff to choose to walk to school, rather

than use the car (lets hope for some

good weather!). There will be anorganised walk from Mouldsworth Train

Station car park, leaving at 8.20am. If

you would like to park your car there

and walk in, it would be great to see

    you!

    FRONT OF SCHOOL

As you can see, the front of school still

has some work to do in terms of

    reseeding and landscaping. We are

waiting for the Spring to arrive before

this is tackled. In the meantime, please

try to keep to the paths to prevent the

    mud from spreading.
