Dear parents,

We are delighted to provide our second update for Axcel Campus’ 2019 activities

from March to May 2019. Our previous newsletter focused on active, experiential

and club activities that makes learning relevant and engaging for the students.

The current issue focuses on connecting students to the real world with learning

beyond the classroom. A wide range of activities and events were held to nurture

students’ holistic education, aligned with our mission in A.S.K beyond academic

excellence.

Students had a one-day field trip to the Forest Research Institute Malaysia

(“FRIM”), one of the leading institutions in tropical forestry research in the

world. Specialist guides from FRIM were engaged to provide an educational tour

on the flora and fauna of the forest. Whilst having fun exploring nature, students

were required to note their observations of their learnings.

A field trip to the National Science Centre was organized to raise awareness,

nurture understanding and appreciation towards science and technology. Our

teachers thoughtfully weaved in a treasure hunt for the students whilst

exploring the interactive science exhibits and interesting science programmes so

as to further spark some fun in learning. The aim is for our students to become

not only a consumer of technology but also a contributor to the scientific and

technological civilization of the future.

Our 9th Mentor is Mr Stantley Tan, a Managing

Director and Head of Global Markets in an

international bank. Mr Tan is a well-respected

Global Markets specialist with almost 30 years of

experience and work extensively in various

countries. Students were engaged on the cross

cultural diversity of Mr Tan’s experience as senior

management in various countries such as Japan,

Korea, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Mr Tan also shared his learnings across various

roles and motivated the students through his vast

experience.

Start-ups, new and small businesses are

prospering in every country. We invited

MyPerks, a start-up started by a group of

university students to provide a workshop

for our students. The Co-Founders shared

their challenges as well as the learnings

from school that could be important for

their start-up journey. They conducted

workshop on pitching skills and on creating

interesting websites.

We continued with our annual TRIZ

workshops, in collaboration with

MyTRIZ. TRIZ has been recognised by

many leading multinationals as the

theory of inventive problem solving and

shortening the innovation process.

Students learned on various structured

ways of idea generation and design

solutions. They are gearing for the annual Axcel-TRIZ competition, with Social

Innovation as the theme for this year.

Study skills are an array of skills which tackle the

process of organizing and taking in new information,

retaining information, or dealing with assessments.

They are essential tools for any student in mastering

academic content. The study skills workshop included a

self-analysis of problem areas which students’ faced

when studying; identifying 10 habits of highly effective

students and comprehending their own type of learning.

We encourage students to participate in competitions as healthy competitions

help students to improve their academic performance and enhance their

Our students participated in different

project-based learning tasks designed

by Sunway University students. The

sessions provided a platform for our

students to engage with undergraduates

on design, plan and implement project

based learning activities. The themes of

learning included "Environment",

"Motivation", "Effective communication

skills" and others.

Students were tasked on 2 separate social

issues facing today’s teenagers; mobile phone

addiction and depression from bullying.

Students came up with their Digital Diet Plan

Lastly we would like to thank the parents for their valuable testimonials which

serves as the best reward to our team. We will continue in our strive to promote

a holistic academic environment for our students to experience the best possible
