PA Day- NO SCHOOL

1. Dressing for Winter

Not All Boots are the same: Rain boots are for Rain (too cold for winter and toes freeze)/ Winter Boots have warm lining and keep toes from getting cold and frostbite.

Please prepare for weather ahead of time so your child can come to school every day even when it rains, or snows. Please do not have your child absent from learning at school due to weather. Instead, be prepared.

2. Kindergarten Registration

JK REGISTRATION FOR SEPTEMBER 2017Junior Kindergarten RegistrationBegins February 2, 2017Registration for students born in 2013 begins in February. Parents should call the school starting in December to schedule a registration appointment. Documents required for registration include the following:

If born in Canada – Birth Certificate If born outside Canada – Documents showing first date of arrival

into Canada (Landing Papers, Passport, PRC Card) Immunization Card Health Card 2 pieces of proof of residence (any current bill, bank statement,

lease)

Parents of children with concerns or special needs are welcome to book registration appointments in January. Please visit the office or give us a call.

3. Attendance – It Really Matters

Students need to be present and engaged in order to learn. If we all agree that schools are the gateway to opportunities, then we know this starts right from Kindergarten. Research has confirmed that early intervention is key to the success of a child’s early experiences with school. Missing 1 ½ days of school each month equates to students missing one full month of instruction. The impact could result in gaps in education, students feeling disconnected with peers and the learning process.

Tips for Parents - How to Improve Your Child’s Attendance:

1. Talk with your child about the importance of attending school regularly; 2. Discuss with your child what happened at school each day; 3. Make sure your child stays healthy by eating nutritious food and getting

enough sleep and exercise; 4. Help your child prepare for the next school day; 5. Avoid family trips or doctor’s appointments during school hours; 6. Support school rules and consequences for being late or absent; 7. Show your child why education is important. Give specific examples of how

education helps people succeed; and 8. Make sure your child stays home only when he/she is sick with a fever or

vomiting

4. Student Recognition for Attendance

We proudly recognize approximately 100 Fraser Mustard students for good-to-perfect attendance over the months of October, November, and December. These students are already benefitting from essential habits needed for student success. We would like to recognize these students with an invitation to come and accept your award. Look for your blue coloured invitation.

You and your family are invited to come to the Atrium after school so that you may receive your book award. Thursday, January 19 is the last day for book pick-up for October, November and December attendance recognition.

Remaining book awards will be sent home after Thursday.

5. Senior Kindergarten Reading Buddy Adventure with Toddlers from CDI Daycare

The senior kindergarten students thought that the toddlers were friendly: “They look playful…” “They were laughing…”

Senior kindergarten students were asked to remember back to when they were the same age as the toddlers:

“My mom read books to me…” “I liked to play games…”

6. Ontario Ministry of Education link to new 2016 Kindergarten Program

Teachers across Ontario will begin teaching from a new kindergarten program document this year. To take a look at the program yourself, please follow the link:
