"Monday, I went to Central CatholicHigh School in Lawrence for a Mass
with the school community.
The high school is flourishing. Weare so grateful to the Marist Brothersfor the wonderful job that they havedone there, and their Marist charismis still very much part of the school. We are also so grateful for CentralCatholic's President, Christopher
Sullivan, and their Principal, DoreenKeller, for the fine leadership they
give.
We celebrated Mass in thegymnasium. It was a Mass of theHoly Spirit, which we celebrate to
open the school year, but there wasalso the theme of Thanksgiving for
the gift of Catholic education. At theend of Mass, they presented me with
some lovely gifts.
While I was at Central Catholic, I wasintrigued by this very unusual
stained-glass window in the chapel. It depicts the Crowning of St.
Joseph. I had never seen somethinglike that before, but am told it is animage sometimes used in French
churches."

Annunciation House, under the direction ofRuben Garcia, continues to receive refugeesevery day, now averaging almost 2,000 per
week, in the latest surge.
Many church organizations and volunteers inEl Paso and Las Cruces have made this
possible. Those who have become involvedin this ministry, whether helping with food,
transportation, working at a shelter, ormaking donations, are really experiencing
something very special: you have a personalencounter with very grateful, humble people
who are only trying to take care of theirfamilies. You begin to understand the
history of why anyone would choose to fleetheir country, and you meet so many
wonderful El Pasoans and visitors who arehere volunteering for a while to help!
The Mexican tradition of Posada
(Shelter), with Joseph and Mary asking forshelter leading up to the birth of Jesus in astable at Christmas, is being played out in
our city right now. And we have an
aneurism this week and is in serious condition.
For all of our Brothers throughout the world, our affiliates, our family members, andbenefactors.
