The University is giving paramount priority to provide higher education and research facilities for holistic development of intellectual capital. To realize this dream the University is making persistent efforts to gear- up all the academic systems. To create a vibrant culture integrating quality teaching and pioneering research with a focus on higher order learning, the University conducted meeting with the Principals and Correspondents of all the affiliated colleges and implored on them to follow the academic calendar strictly and maintain academic discipline and student friendly on-campus environment. With the main thrust to provide a platform and to gain understanding regarding the concept of quality, process of quality assurance, assessment and accreditation, affiliation and recognition, and to create a platform for exchange of innovative practices and strategies, the College Development Council (CDC), Krishna University organized a two-day workshop on “Assessment and Accreditation- A Tool to Enhance Quality and Excellence in Higher Education”. Krishna University believes in inculcating in its youth the sense of integrity, ethics, uncompromising honesty, democratic values and value for human rights. To induce these values through academic reinvigoration, the University started ‘Public Lecture Series’ on higher education theme. This was done as Universities and colleges as modern and secular knowledge centres have an important role in public education. The inaugural lecture was delivered by Prof.V.S.Prasad, Former Director, NAAC, Bangalore. Krishna University is gearing up to conduct the second Convocation in August 2014 to confer 2320 PG degrees in the Faculties of Commerce and Management , Education, Engineering and Technology, Languages and Fine Arts, Life Sciences, Mathematical & Physical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Social Sciences. The University confers 14299 UG degrees in the Faculties of Commerce and Management, Education, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences, Mathematical & Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences and Law for the academic years conducted after the First Convocation. Hon’ble Justice Dr. Patibandla Chandrasekhara Rao, Judge of International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Hamburg, Germany, is the Chief Guest, who will deliver the Convocation address. He is an awardee of Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2012. He was Legal Advisor to six Prime Ministers of India, starting with Shri.Rajiv Gandhi. University Campus Vibes...Public Lecture Series LaunchedKrishna University started Public Lecture Series in 2014 as asocial responsibility towards its affiliated colleges, students andthe general public. Prof.V.S. Prasad, former Director,

National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC),Bangalore, delivered the first University Public Lecture on“Towards Synergy of Quality Assurance in Higher Education”

at P. B. Siddhartha Auditorium, Vijayawada on 2nd January,2014.

He said, “Quality deficit is the defining feature of the huge,diverse and complex higher education system in India. Qualityis a function of multiple stakeholders in higher education i.e.students, staff, management, government, regulatory agencies,assessment agencies, international agencies, employers, parents

and society at large”. He defined quality as “fitness of purposeis viewed as development of skills and competencies requiredfor emerging national and international markets”.

He concluded that we are all a mix of personal factors andcontextual features. Let us work together for excellence in highereducation; a social necessity for a democratic and just society.

The University chose Higher Education themes for PublicLecture Series during the academic year 2014-15. The futurelectures would cover higher education in relation toInclusiveness, Economics, ICT, Open Education Resources(OER), Management Education, Teacher Education, ScienceEducation, Distance Education, etc.

UGC National Seminar on“Emerging Trends in Indian Writing inEnglish in 21st Century”The Department of English, Krishna University in collaborationwith SDMS Mahila Kalasala, Vijayawada organized a two dayUGC sponsored National Seminar on “Emerging Trends inIndian Writing in English in 21st Century” at Vijayawada on 21and 22 January, 2014. The main objective of this NationalSeminar is to expose faculty members, students and Englishfraternity to the emerging trends and recent developments inIndian English Literature in the wake of globalization and duringthe first decade of the 21st century. In the new century, Indianwriters have become bolder and stronger in expressing theircreative imagination. Globalization, Ecocriticism, Feminism andCultural Studies influenced Indian English Literature.

The seminar was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, KrishnaUniversity, Prof.V.Venkaiah, who highlighted the importanceof English language and life skills today. The keynote addresswas delivered by eminent academician Prof.T.Vijaya Kumar

Republic Day Celebrated

Krishna University (KRU) celebrated Republic Day on its maincampus. The National Flag was unfurled by the Chief Guest ofthe function, Prof.V.Venkaiah, Vice-Chancellor, KRU. Heexpressed his warm wishes to the University students, scholars,faculty, non-teaching staff, all the stakeholders of the Universityand the countrymen living in India and abroad. Prior to thisProf. Venkaiah, Prof. Suryachandra Rao and Prof. Sundara

most misunderstood and misrepresented terms and fluency inone’s mother tongue will help improve our communicationskills. Dr.N.Usha, Head, Department of English, KRU,welcomed all the academicians and scholars for the two dayseminar on behalf of the University. The Seminar souvenirwith 96 abstracts was released by the president of SiddharthaAcademy Mr.N. Venkateswarulu along with Convenor ofSDMSM Kalasala, Mr.Lalitha Prasad, Principal of the collegeT. Vijaylakshmi and Seminar Director and HoD of English,Mrs.M.Nalini.

Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty of University of Hyderabad, whospecialises in DH Lawrence and 20th century fiction, women’swritings, intellectual history, 19th century and post-colonialliterature, in his Valedictory address mentioned that Indian

English literature is interdisciplinary, written from differentshores and is a respected category throughout the world. Healso spoke on the makers of IEL with perspectives from DeanMohammad and Dhan Gopal Mukherjee. Prof. D.SuryaChandra Rao, Registrar of Krishna University, presided overthe valedictory session and distributed certificates to theparticipants. Academicians and students from Kerala,Pondicherry, Tamilnadu, Gujarat, Punjab, Orissa and AndhraPradesh participated enthusiastically and 120 papers werepresented on diverse aspects of Indian English Literature duringthe sessions. Selected papers of this National Conference areedited in the form of Conference Proceedings by theorganisers, Dr.N.Usha and Mr.M.Nalini.

Krishna garlanded the statue of the Father of the Nation –Mahatma Gandhi, on the University campus college premises.Speaking on this occasion, he said that ours is the world’s bestConstitution. He said that it is time to thank and be grateful tothe martyrs and heroes who showed courage and bravery forcountry’s sake without bothering their own lives, because ofwhose sacrifices onlywe are enjoying thefreedom today. Hesaid it is time to recallwhat we have done tothe nation in keepingpeace and harmony.

He said our countryhas seen success onmany fronts and weshould not get baffledby some problemsand failures andadded that we mustquestion ourselveshow righteous we are

in the critical situations. He praised the dedicated hard work of millions of thecountrymen because of which there is phenomenal growth in education. Thereare 700 plus universities, 38000 colleges, one million teachers and 25 millionstudents according to the latest statistics. He said Krishna University is makingall efforts locally to meet 30%Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) as set by theGovernment of India and added that there are 48% women students in KRU.

Prof. Venkaiah stressed that there is more responsibility on the educated thantheir not- much-educated and just literate counterparts in this country. Hegave a clarion call to join hands to curb the growing criminalization in oursociety.

He said that as part of its social responsibility, KRU has conducted PublicLecture Series and the same was inaugurated and the second Public LectureSeries would be held at KRU Campus. He stated that there are limitations inquality in research and teaching and added that steps should be initiated tofacilitate learner friendly and learner centric teaching.

The function was presided over by Prof.Y.K.Sundara Krishna, Principal,University Campus College. The Registrar, KRU, Prof.D.Suryachandra Rao,Public Relations Officer, KRU, Dr.C.M.Vinaya Kumar, students, scholars,faculty members from all departments and non-teaching staff attended thisfunction.

The Department of Telugu, Krishna University, organized theFifth National Conference of Telugu Linguists Forum incollaboration with the Telugu Linguists Forum, Hyderabad andCentral Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore atMachilipatnam on 6 and 7 March, 2014. The main aim of theconference is to bring linguists on a single platform and discussvarious theatrical and applied issues related to Telugu language.Sri. Mandali Buddha Prasad, Chairman, Official LanguagesCommission, Government of Andhra Pradesh and HonoraryPresident, Krishna District Telugu Writers Association,inaugurated the Conference and shared his experiences inreinvigorating Telugu language and literature in Andhra Pradeshand on global platform. Prof. V.Venkaiah, Vice-Chancellor, KRUpresiding over the inaugural session underlined the contemporary

Dr.N.Usha, Head Incharge, Department ofTelugu welcomed the gathering and Dr.Varuna Kumariintroduced the resource persons.

Ramakrishna Reddy, former Professor of Linguistics,Former Dean, School of Language Development, PottiSriramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad delivered the keynoteaddress on “Treatment of Case in European TraditionalGrammars of Telugu” with an emphasis on famous EuropeanTelugu scholars A.D.Campbell, C.P.Brown and A.H.Arden.Dr.C.V.Sivarama Krishna of Central Institute of IndianLanguages, Mysore was the Guest of Honour. Speaking to a packed audience of students, faculty and staff,Dr. G. Uma Maheswara Rao, Professor, Centre for AppliedLinguistics and Translation Studies (CALTS), School ofHumanities, University of Hyderabad, touched upon “ MongoluTelugu Bashala Janya Janakathvam” in his plenary lecture.Scholars from various parts of the country participated in thisNational Conference and papers were presented on variousaspects of Telugu linguistics, place of Telugu among theDravidian languages, modern methods of language teaching,computerizing Telugu as home language, Telugu Translationamong others. Prof.H.Lakshmi of English and ForeignLanguages University, Hyderabad spoke on “Translation as aRewriting: A Case of Rajasekhara Charitra” while Dr.K.Rajyarama and Dr.Addanki Srinivas of University ofHyderabad presented a paper on “Telugu-Hindi Machine

Translation”. Dr. J. Prabhakara Rao, Professor of Linguisticsand Coordinator, Centre for Study of Foreign Languages,School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad chaired twosessions and pointed out the challenges of using TeluguLanguage in contemporary education. Linguists and languageexperts grappled with various aspects of Telugu such asdescriptive grammar, comparative grammar, socio-linguistics,higher education in mother tongue, the use of Telugu in mediaand making Telugu internet-friendly. Dr.N.Usha of KRU andMr.G.Praveen of University of Hyderabad coordinated the two-day Conference. The conference proceedings will be publishedshortly in “Basha”, the journal of Telugu Linguists Forum’.

CONFLUENCIA-2K14The Department of Commerce and Business Management ofKBN College, Vijayawada organized a State-level ManagementStudents Meet ‘Confluencia-2k14’, on 18th February 2014with, a tag-line “A Showcase of Talents”.Vice-Chancellor, Krishna University, Prof. V. Venkaiah,inauguratedt h eproceedingso fConfluencia-2 k 1 4 .Speaking onthe occasionhe elaboratedthe globalopportunitiesfor theCommerce and Management Students and highlighted theimportance of such fests which elicit the inherent talents of thestudents.Nearly 140 participants from Krishna and neighbouring districtstook part in different events like quiz, canon (Personalitydevelopment contest), debate, treasure hunt, dance competitionsetc..

AAGAMA- The Techno Fiesta

MIC College of Technology, Kanchikacherla organized a national level contesttitled ‘Aagma 14’ on 20th March, 2014. The main aim is to capture uniquetalented expressions of research in student community of graduate and postgraduate students. AAGAMA, the research talent contest was inaugurated bylightening of lamp by the Chief Guest Prof.V.Venkaiah, Vice Chancellor, KRU.Vice Chairman Sri N Srinivasa Rao, Secretary Prof. D.Panduranga Rao, Director(Planning &Development) Sri M.Srinivasa Rao, Director (Academics) ProfN.Krishna, Principal, Dr K B K Rao and Vice Principal and Organising Secretary,Aagama’14 Dr C S V Ramchandra Rao participated in the inaugural ceremony.

India is ‘Golden Bird’: Experts

P B Siddhartha College conducted a three-day national seminaron ‘New Paradigms and Perspectives in Business Excellencein association with Indian Council of Social Science Research(ICSSR), National HRD Network and Computer Society ofIndia. While delivering the Inaugural address, Vice Chancellor,KRU, Prof. V. Venkaiah said that the living standards haveimproved due to new technological changes and this led to the

creation of the ‘wealthy middle class`. He hopefully statedthat India, which is ranked 12th in the global consumer marketwould soon overtake Germany and other countries to emergeas the fifth largest consumer as more and more people join this‘wealthy middle-class` group.

The Guest of Honour Prof. A.V.subba Rao from University ofOttawa, Canada, said that ‘continuous innovation’ is the needof hour to sustain in the market.

Prof. Venkaiah advised the students to facefailures pragmatically and hone their skillswith positive attitude. He stressed on theneed to inculcate research aptitude. Hecommended the participants from across theState for coming forward to exhibit theirtalents.

The management of the collegecomplimented the students on their earnestparticipation and honored the winners ofthe competitions with trophies and cashprizes.

National Seminar on FDI

The Department of Commerce and Management, KRU,conducted a two-day national seminar on ‘Foreign DirectInvestment in Service Sector in Emerging Economy:Opportunities and Challenges,’ (NSFDI-2014) on the UniversityCampus on 24th & 25th April 2014, in association with AndhraPradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE),Hyderabad. Former Chairman, APSCHE, Hyderabad, Prof.K.C. Reddy was the Chief Guest while GITAM University,Visakhapatnam, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D. Harinarayanawas the keynote speaker at the inaugural session of the Seminar.Addressing the gathering at the inaugural session, RajivEducation and Employment Mission Andhra Pradesh formerChairman K.C. Reddy felt a greater need for inviting FDIs intoboth the corporate and the government sectors. He said manycountries across the globe are relaxing norms pertaining toForeign Direct Investment in a phased manner in several sectorsincluding service sector.Addressing the students, Prof. Reddy said foreign capital hasthe potential to deliver enormous benefits to developing nations.It also helps bridging the gap between savings and investmentin capital-scarce economies. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. V.Venkaiah, presided over the programme and said many countriesneed investment for development. He emphasized that foremerging countries FDI is an important source for capitalprojects. He added that the flow of capital into economies has

become vital in shaping the policies and political decisions ofgovernments to attract more FDI.Dean Faculty of Commerce and Management and Registrar,KRU, Prof. D. Suryachandra Rao is the Convener of NSFDI-2014. He said FDI is the driver of employment, technologicalprogress, productivity improvements and ultimately theeconomic growth. It plays critical role in filling the development,foreign exchange, investment and tax revenue gaps indeveloping countries, said Prof. Rao.GITAM University Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof.D. Hari Narayanaexplained the advantages and disadvantages of FDI. The SpecialOfficer, KRU Dr.MRAR PG centre, Nuzvid,Prof.M.V.Basaveswara Rao spoke on the occasion. TheDirector, School of Management Studies, JNTU, Hyderabad,Prof. A.R. Arya Sri chaired the panel discussion. The Registrar,

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Srikakulam, Prof.V. KrishnaMohan, Prof. P.B. Appa Rao, retired professor,Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapur and UniversityCampus College Principal Prof.Y.K. The Department of Commerce and Management, KRU,conducted management meet titled ‘Vidusha-2K14’. Youngbusiness professionals of various institutes exhibited their talentin the business quiz, market makers, young managers, groupdiscussion and cultural activities in this national-levelmanagement meet.

Students of Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada, bagged firstprize in business quiz, market makers and singing. KrishnaUniversity students stood top in mime, ramp walk and secondin group discussion, while V.R. Siddhartha College ofEngineering and Technology bagged first prize in just a minute,essay writing and young managers.

The event covered core areas of the management like finance,human resources and marketing and competitions wereconducted in elocution, essay writing, business quiz, groupdiscussion, dance and ramp walk, said Prof. Rao.

Krishna University (KRU) established the Internal QualityAssurance Cell (IQAC) aimed at improving standards ofeducation, research and other activities of the university.The 11-member Cell, headed by Vice-Chancellor, KRUProf.V.Venkaiah, discussed at length the functioning of IQAC,quality policy, management principles and strategies in the firstmeeting held on the university premises at Machilipatnam.Prof. Venkaiah gave a power point presentation on theacademic and research activities and extension programmesof the institution to the Committee Members- the Registrar,KRU, D. Suryachandra Rao, Andhra Pradesh State Councilof Higher Education Vice-Chairman P. Vijaya Prakash, FormerChief Consultant Offshore Programmes in Asia I.V. The CDC accords permission/affiliation to run a college, subjectto stipulated conditions. It also helps in the all-rounddevelopment of the colleges and coordinates between the UGC,AICTE, PCI, NCTE, BCI, APSCHE and the colleges. Withthe main thrust to provide an understanding in terms, conceptsand process of quality assurance, assessment and accreditation,affiliation and recognition and for exchange of innovativepractices and future strategies, the CDC, Krishna Universityorganized a two-day workshop entitled “Assessment andAccreditation- A Tool to Enhance Quality and Excellence inHigher Education” on 23rd &24th Jan, 2014.

As per the recommendations of the High Power Committeeon “Reinvigoration of Affiliating System”, the Universityconstituted and sent Inspection Committees for the grant ofextension of affiliation. The College Development Council hasdesigned and developed a comprehensive Inspection Committee

Proforma to collect detailed information on every aspect ofthe affiliated college. These Committees have submitted theirreports to the University in the stipulated time

for future course of action. Further, the College DevelopmentCouncil initiated necessary measures to include all eligibleaffiliated colleges under Sec.2 (f) and 12-B of the UGC Act,1956 to enable them to secure necessary development grantsfrom the UGC. Further, the affiliated colleges having permanentaffiliation and accreditation by NAAC are being encouraged tomove forward for Autonomy.

The University insisted that every affiliated college is requiredto establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in thecollege and the IQACs of affiliated colleges should be

linked to the University’s IQAC to promote quality and ensurestandards in education.

Academic Senate Conducted

Kudos to Krishna University (KRU) for bestowing untiringefforts in appealing the Government of Andhra Pradesh toconstitute the Academic Senate before the dawn of the year2013 and thereby paving way to gear up the self-styled academicadministration and guidance in the days to come.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh constituted the AcademicSenate for Krishna University, by

nominating 77 persons with expertise in various fields. ThePrincipal Secretary to the Department of Higher EducationAjay Misra announced the list of nominated persons onThursday. In the one-third-category of University Collegefaculty, Prof.M.V.Basaveswara Rao, Professor of Chemistry,Krishna University was appointed in the Academic Senate,KRU. Other members being the Principals of affiliated colleges(20); members from women, SC, ST and BC categories (7);Principals of junior colleges (2); experts from fields of

medicines, law, engineering, business and banking (10); non-teaching staff of Affiliated colleges, KRU (2); studentsrepresentatives-who are toppers in examinations of somesubjects (6); librarian from Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada(1); Physical Director (1); persons from research laboratories(2); professors from other universities (5) and representativesof privates colleges managements (2).

The first meeting of the Academic Senate of Krishna Universitywas held on 28th March, 2014 at P.B.Siddhartha College ofArts and Science, Vijayawada.

The Academic Senate has approved the Budget Estimates forthe year 2014-15; Revised Estimates for the year 2013-I4 andAnnual Accounts for the year 2012-13. The Senate has also

approved the Annual Report of the University for the academicyear 2012-13 covering the period from 01.04.2012 to31.03.2013.

Earth Work in Progress

Considering the extent of land available at Rudravaram i.e.,102.86 acres, the University has taken a decision to take upconstruction of Buildings in the first phase at Rudravaram. Asper the decision of M & DC, the University has entrusted thejob of providing consultancy services with regard to soilinvestigation, contour survey, preparation of Master Plan,Architectural plan etc. to Bureau of Industrial ConsultancyServices (BICS), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University,Hyderabad (JNTU-H). Bureau of Industrial ConsultancyServices, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University,Hyderabad, with their empanelled agencies has undertaken soilinvestigation, contour survey, prepared Master Plan andArchitectural Plans for the University buildings. The Monitoringand Development Committee of Krishna University hasapproved the Master Plan and plans for the construction ofthree buildings of Krishna University viz., AdministrativeBuilding, Academic Building and Ladies Hostel.

The University has entered into a Memorandum ofUnderstanding with the Central Public Works Department(CPWD) on 04.06.2014 for the construction of AdministrativeBuilding, Academic Building and Ladies Hostel. Preliminaryestimated cost of half of the Academic and AdministrativeBuildings prepared by Central Public Works Department isRs. 71,75,72,000/- (Rupees seventy one crore seventy fivelakh and seventy two thousand only). Based on therecommendations of the Building Committee meeting and withthe approval of the M & DC and as per the MoU, the Universitywill transfer 10% of the amount on the preliminary estimatessubmitted by the Central Public Works Department to CentralPublic Works Department, Vijayawada to take up constructionof half of the Academic and Administrative Buildings.Land Development at Rudravaram under MGNREGAThe University approached the District Authorities to lendsupport to University in its land development activity. TheCollector and District Magistrate, Krishna has directed theProject Director, District Water Management Agency(DWAMA) to take up land development works at Rudravaramunder Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment GuaranteeAct.Under this scheme, labourers dug the water tank in Rudravaramsite for water storage purpose in 2013. During the year 2013-14, the works pertaining to digging of water tank at theRudravaram site were taken up along with land developmentworks by DWMA under MGNREGA. Internal road laying wasalso taken up during the year 2014-15, as per the Master Plan.

NSS Cell, Krishna University (KRU) organized the launchingof the National Youth Policy-2014 (NYP-2014) at 3.00 P.M.on 21st February 2014. More than 550 NSS volunteers fromJunior, Degree, Engineering and University Colleges participatedin this programme. The Policy was launched on the same dayin about 653 places across the country.

The programme was organized by Dr.C.M.Vinaya Kumar,Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, KRU and the Registrar,KRU, Prof. D. Suryachandra Rao addressed the volunteersbefore flagging-off the rally conducted to create awarenessamong the public on the NYP-2014. Speaking on this occasionwith a huge banner of the NYP-2014 at the back-drop, hesaid, that the Policy is focused on youth development andempowerment involving all stakeholders. He added that theresponsibility to protect the age-old cultural values and to strivefor the building of the nation rest on the shoulders of the youth.

The Principal, Campus College, Prof.Y.K.Sundara Krishna saidthat it is a great opportunity for the youth to build career andcontribute for the good of the nation.

The Director, Harsha Colleges, Mr.A.Kamalakar said that youthare the strength of the nation and future of India.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr.Vinaya Kumar said that the visionof NYP-2014 is to empower youth to achieve their full potential,

KRU launches National Youth Policy-2014 and through them to enable India to find its rightful place inthe community of nations.

A huge rally covering two-kilometres, was taken-out withvolunteers raising slogans and holding placards with shortmessages identifying the objectives and priority areas such aseducation, skill development and employment,entrepreneurship, health and healthy lifestyle, sports, promotionof social values, community engagement, participation in politicsand governance, youth engagement, inclusion and social justice.Pamphlets were distributed on the theme.

The volunteers formed a human-chain after reaching thehistorical place, Koneru Centre and a forty-five minute

programme was conducted during which Dr.Vinaya Kumarsaid that India is set to experience a dynamic transformation asthe population burden of the past turns into a demographicdividend. He said that it is the need of the hour to give equalaccess to opportunities. Mr.Kamalakar, and NSS ProgrammeOfficers - Dr.P.Veerabramhachari, Mr. L.K. Haranath Babu,Mr. R. Zithendra, Ms. Ch. Mari Davalambari, Ms. K.Rajamanikyam, Mr. T. Vijaya Krishna, and Mr. P. SrinivasaRao participated. It is noted that the general public gave anexcited and keen audience to the NYP-2014 programmeconducted by NSS Cell, Krishna University.

NSS Cell, Krishna University (KRU) celebrated District-levelNSS Youth Festival at A.J.Kalasala Auditorium, KRU Campushere on Monday. The celebration was filled with colourfulpresentations where student volunteers from the nook andcorners of the District participated. They were clad in traditionalattires, hip-hopping to western tunes, dancing to the folk music,and raising slogans.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor and theChairman, NSS Cell, KRU, Prof.V.Venkaiah complimentedDr. C.M.Vinaya Kumar, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell,KRU for making all efforts to conduct the first NSS DistrictLevel Youth Festival of KRU. He said that the NSSprogrammes such as Special Camps, Pulse-Polio, Plantation,

NSS Youth Festival Celebrateddigging immersion pits, blood donation Programmes etc…areconducted in all the NSS Units and NSS Cell in KRU is veryvibrant.Prof.Venkaiah said ‘there are 12000 volunteers enrolled in KRUNSS Units and this is a big youth force rendering services inseveral forms and helping the needy’.The Registrar, KRU, Prof.D.Suryachandra Rao said that KRUwill continue to conduct NSS Youth Festival. The Principal,Campus College, KRU said that NSS inculcates discipline bothin individual and community. The Youth Officer & Head, Ministry of Youth Affairs &Sports, NSS Regional Centre, Hyderabad, Mr. P. Rama Krishnasaid that the festival has become the platform for the volunteersto know each other better and to exhibit their talents. Heencouraged the students to continue to extend service and helpthe needy. He said that the valuable books given to the NSSprize winners is a good practice and stressed that the youthmust read books and learn lessons for life.The evening was packed with performances by students and

the team from Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada presented‘group folk dance’, which added to the cultural spirit. Mimicry,mime and ‘Bharathanatyam’ were performed which receiveda huge applause from the audience.Later, the Vice-Chancellor, KRU, Prof.V.Venkaiah and theYouth Officer Head, NSS Regional Centre, Hyderabad, Mr. P.Rama Krishna distributed prizes to the winners and certificatesto all the participants.

The Krishna University Athletic Meet was held at AG&SGSiddhartha College, Vuyyuru from November 25th to 27th, 2013.A total of 421 athletes from 42 affiliated Colleges of KrishnaUniversity participated in the event. The Competitions wereconducted for men in 26 events and for women in 24 events.The AG&SG Siddhartha College, Vuyyuru hosted the megaevent.

The athletic meet was inaugurated by Sri T.Sri Hari Rao,Convener of AG&SG Siddhartha College, Vuyyur onNovember 25th, 2013 at 2.00 pm and Sri K.Satyanarayana,Principal of the college presided over the function. Mr. Sivafrom V.K.R.College, Buddhavarm and Miss Madhuri from SriSrinivasa Degree College, Vuyyuru won the titles of fastestrunners of the meet. And the Overall Championship bagged byDr.Zakhir Hussain Degree College, Ibrahimpatnam andS.D.M.Siddhartha Mahila Degree Kalasala, Vijayawada in menand women category respectively.

Speaking as the Chief Guest of the prize distribution functionheld on November 27th 2013, the Vice Chancellor, KrishnaUniversity, Prof. V. Venkaiah spoke about the need andimportance of Physical Fitness, Games and Sports. He opinedthat participation in games and sports invariably ensures goodhealth, fitness and generally freedom from ailments of varioustypes. Also, unless the human body is kept in smooth trim andin an overall fit condition, even the brain will refuse to co-operate after some time. Further he added that young peoplehave surplus energy, and if this is fruitfully utilized, thefoundations are laid for a healthy society, where people arefully aware of the need for discipline, co-operative effort, teamspirit, the cult of sportsmanship, of joint devotion to theachievement of a common goal in collaboration with others.He congratulated the winners and appreciated the participantsto take active part in the athletic meet.

During his address the Vice-chancellor informed that theUniversity has allotted sufficient funds to organize the InterCollegiate tournaments, fielding the University teams to Inter

University tournaments and providing necessary infrastructureto the sportsmen. Additional funds are also allotted to organizeInter University tournaments accommodate by the Associationof Indian Universities. He also mentioned that the UniversitySports Board has been encouraging and honouring themeritorious sportsmen with cash awards those who broughtlaurels to the University at Inter-University tournaments sinceits inception.

Weight Lifting, Power Lifting and Best Physique Champs toK.V.R.College, Nandigama

Krishna University Weight Lifting, Power Lifting and BestPhysique competitions (2013-2014) were held at AG&SGSiddhartha Degree College, Vuyyuru from January 2nd to 4th,2014. In women’s category the Weight lifting and Power liftingChampionship was bagged by K.V.R College, Nandigama.K.V.R.College also won championship in Men Power liftingand Best Physique.

The event was inaugurated by K.Satyanarayana, Principal,AG&SG Siddhartha College, Vuyyuru on 2nd January, 2014.Sri S.Brammananda Raju, Branch Manager, AndhraBank,Vuyyuru has attended as the Chief Guest for PrizeDistribution function held on January 4th, 2014 and distributedthe mementoes and trophies to the Winners.
