Isn’t it nice to think that
tomorrow is a new day with
no mistakes in it yet?
Said Anne to her adoptive
guardian Marilla in L.M.
Montgomery's novel Anne of
Green Gables. Anne is
imaginative, headstrong and
temperamental but most of
all, she's hopeful. No matter
how many times Anne gets
into trouble, she's always
ready and willing to learn and
try again.
With this renewed spirit we
ring in another eventful and
exhilarating academic session.
The euphoria generated by the
brilliant Board results of our
10th and 12th graders has not
yet settled in and we are
already into the thick of
action in terms of multiple
achievements, Yoga Day,
Environment Day,
Orientations, Investiture and
Prize Day, and lots more……

Achievements
Pranjal Srivastava
Grade10B has done us
proud yet again! It’s another
consecutive year when
Pranjal has been selected to
represent India in the 60th
International Mathematics
Olympiad to be held in UK in July 2019. In 2018 Pranjal
was the youngest ever global
participant to get a medal in
IMO. Pranjal has also been
invited to participate in the
final round of prestigious
Sharygin Geometry
Olympiad conducted by
Russia in August in honour
of the famous
Mathematician I F Sharygin.
Pranjal was also invited to
attend the International
Olympiad in Informatics
training camp at CMI in
Chennai. He could only
attend it partly because it
coincided with the
International Mathematics
Olympiad camp in Mumbai.
He was awarded a certificate
for Outstanding Performance
in the Indian National
Olympiad for Informatics!

And this is not all! Pranjal
continues to amaze us.
Pranjal has received a gold
medal in APMO 2019 (Asia
and Pcific Math
Olympiad). He is the first to
receive it in our country,
ever since India’s formal
participation started in 2015.
Next comes ToT
(Tournament of Towns). Pranjal scored highest in this
competition in India and
received a diploma as an
acknowledgement of
outstanding achievement. He
is also among a select few
students across the world
who have been invited for a
10 day camp in Belgrade,
Serbia in August 2019.
Following up on his good
run in informatics Olympiad
at regional and national
levels, Pranjal is one of the
top 10 in the country in India
who have been recognized
by APIO 2019 (Asia and
Pacific Informatics
Olympiad). Pranjal received
an Honourable Mention for
his performance in the
competition.
It does appear that Pranjal
has done a clean sweep in all
the international level Math
Competitions that India can
participate in. Now after this
trail of unprecedented
success we wish him all the
very best in the upcoming
IMO 2019 in UK.
The Panini Linguistics
Olympiad is the program
through which school students
are chosen to represent India
at the International
Linguistics Olympiad. Every
year a four hour "PLO Round
1" exam is held across India
and the top 30 students are
chosen to attend the PLO
Training Camp at the IIIT
Hyderabad, which has a
renowned research centre in
computational linguistics.
Two students from NPS
Koramangala - Abhinav
Menon and Niveditha Iyer
Grade 12A - were selected
for the camp. Abhinav
Menon won a silver medal at
the maiden Asia Pacific
Linguistics Olympiad.
Niveditha Iyer placed fourth
overall in Round 2, winning a
silver medal. She has been
selected as a member of the
Indian team for the 2019
International Linguistics
Olympiad to be held in late
July in South Korea.
Sarang Srinivasan Grade 10

programming, algorithmic
thinking and code speed.
Most of the participants in the
program are college students.
He plans to appear for the
intermediate and advanced
level exams later this year.
Abhishek Noronha- Trek to
the Everest Base Camp
Abhishek Noronha of Grade
9A trekked to the Mt. Everest
Base Camp (EBC) during the
dates of April 2 to April 16. A
14 day trek with freezing cold
weather and negligible
amount of oxygen could be
the definition of this
marvelous trek. He also met
the great Sir Edmund
Hillary’s son who encouraged
him to peak the 8848m
mountain (Mt. Everest). He
reached a maximum height of
5540m (EBC). The average
temperature in this area was
-16 degree Celsius and the
probability of finishing this
trek at 14 years is a mere 36.7
percent (Information provided
by locals in Nepal).

A leader should lead by
example; should develop a
degree of equanimity and
should understand the
principle of mutual
interdependence- the three
most important qualities Lord
Krishna advised Arjuna to
possess in Bhagwat Gita.
With these thoughts Ms. Usha
Unnikrishnan steered the
course of Investiture
ceremony, now christened
Investiture and Prize Day

encompassing, tranquilizing
the spirit and the mind; the
euphonious rhythmic
syllables of Tillana (a
rhythmic piece of Carnatic
music) by Sri Lalgudi
Jayaraman in raga
Sindhubhairavi transfused the
listeners with joy; the artwork
of yogic asanas on the canvas
of body, splashed with
colours of melody made an
immaculate blend on 5th
International Yoga Day and
World Music Day at NPS
Koramangala on 21st
June.The young lithe bodies
twisting, gyrating to the high
and lows of symphonies were
a flawless tribute to the divine
and our rich yogic and
musical heritage. Students of
grades 2 to 12 showcased and
inspired everyone through an
assortment of yoga moves in
sync with sweetness of music
transcending boundaries of
genres, religion and nations.

CERN Visit 2019
The annual educational trip
to CERN, Geneva, in
association with Life Lab was
took place from 12 to 19 May
2019. The team comprised 16
grade 12 students along with
the science teacher Mrs Rema
Sathish Kumar.
The following were the
highlights of the trip -
viewing the first accelerator,
the Synchrocyclotron; walk
through the hallway where the
World Wide Web was
designed; the engaging and
thought provoking
presentations by eminent
scientists like Sir John Ellis(
leading Physicist studying
Super Symmetry), Mr Piotr
Traczyk (Experimental
Physicist of Compact Muon
Solenoid), Dr Manjit Dosanjh
(researching on application of
particle physics in the field of
Radiology and PES-Postron
Emission Topography) and
the affable Mick Storr the
scientist of CERN who
planned out the programme.
The visit to the underground
humungous CMS- Compact
Muon Solenoid experiment
was an eye opener. The mega
scale at which the experiment
[Type here]

is conducted and the
amalgamation of dedicated
scientist from all over the
world to research, for the
benefit of mankind, was the
beauty in it. The Antimatter
factory and the Data Centre
were a few other attractions.
Dr Archana Sharma (scientist
-CERN and Life Lab)
inspired the students to work
in this prestigious research
centre.
A treasure hunt was organized
around the city of Geneva.
The students thoroughly
enjoyed this adventure as it
gave them a chance to explore
the beautiful city entirely on
their own. The trip was the
right mix of intelligent
discussions, scenic beauty and
adventure in the Switzerland.
It was a dream come true
experience.
Class Assembly
Grade 12 A
The class assemblies for the
academic year 2019-20
kicked off to a spectacular
start on 14thJune with 12 A’s
assembly. The topic was
Timeless - a collection of
ubiquitous yet immortal gems
of yore. The news and a
stimulating, well-thought-out
quiz, were first in line,
followed by a talented re-
enactment of a scene from the
Charlie Chaplin movie ‘City
Lights’, which left everyone
in splits. Next came a medley
of timeless dances, graceful
and yet amusing. The last, but
certainly not least, of the
ensemble was ‘refreshingly
close to home - a collection of
iconic filmy scenes’. Amjad
Khan’s ‘kitne aadmi the’ from
Sholay, Shashi Kapoor’s
‘mere paas maa hai’ from
Deewaar, and, of course,
Amrish Puri’s ‘jaa Simran
jaa’ from Dilwale Dulhania
Le Jayenge - with an
entertaining little detour. An
eloquent and expressive
speech, on ‘What Makes
Something Timeless?’,
followed by the song ‘Hey
Jude’, wrapped up what was
for many the last chance to
perform on NPS
Koramangala’s stage. So
ended the memorable class
assembly with a nostalgic
exhilaration.
Grade 12 B creatively
dishing out slices of their
school life, all the way from
1st to 11th Grade. Students
of Grade 12 B took a trip
down the memory lane in
[Type here]
9
their class assembly
‘Nostalgia’ on 19th June.
Children attempting
challenging projects during
KHOJ in grade 1; singing
aloud together during
Preksha, (Annual Music
Day) and the famous Sports
Day dances four years ago,
elicited loud cheers and
applause from the audience.
Then arrived the startling
realities of Grade 11- the
difficulties faced by the
students, and the contrast
between those who have it
too easy and students who
struggle to cope with the
extraordinary jump in
complexity and vastness of
portions.
This all-too-relatable theme
was enacted through a series
of uproarious classroom
scenes, culminating in the
depiction of an exam.
However, a speech on
leaving school, coping with
stress and disappointment,
advice to hold on tight to
their memories of school life
and not to put undue
pressure on themselves, took
the edge off those precarious
situations.
The beautiful rendition of
songs and a unique quiz on
school and its history
strengthened the student-
school bond.
Grade 10 A
Failure is the opportunity to
begin again, only this time
more wisely - quote by Henry
Ford perfectly sums up the
message delivered by 10-A
through their class assembly,
titled Collapse, on the 29th
June, Friday.
The message was relayed
through a dance drama
revolving around the life of a
boy torn between two paths –
one that led to his dreams and
another that was easy and
safe, but gave him no joy.
With his focus divided
between all the factors in the
busy life of a teenager, his
condition kept worsening,
until he hit rock bottom.
The resolution through a
poem and a dance showed his
upliftment. The speech left
the audience with a strong
message: so long as you are
true to yourself, and you
throw your heart and soul into
achieving your goal, failure
becomes a lesson, and success
becomes a guarantee.
Guest Lecture - Mr Sanju
Soman from ATREE – CERC
On 7th June, the students of
10th grade had an interactive
session with Mr Sanju Soman,
a climate change activist and
sustainable studies expert
from ATREE – CERC,
Alapuzha, Kerala. Talking
mainly about sustainable
development and climate
change Mr Soman
emphasised the necessity for a
global movement and
dedication from everyone. He
rightfully stated that climate
change is actually a crisis and
not merely a geographical
phenomenon. He explained
how we must go beyond
creating awareness and
implement ideas that can have
maximum impact.
During the second half of the
session Mr Soman focused on
[Type here]
10
sustainable development and
the aims the UN has set for
2030. He apprised the
students about the 17 global
Sustainable Development
Goals (SDG’s) and the sub
goals that the countries all
over the world have pledged
to work upon. Conveying his
thoughts passionately he
inspired the audience on how
they could bring about a
change and why it is
necessary for their voice to be
heard. Mr Soman’s valuable
advice and professional
experience will definitely be a
guiding hand in their Social
Science project this year.
1Million1Billion Orientation
On 3rd June students of Grade
9 were introduced to 1M1B,
the Future Leaders Program
through an orientation
conducted by the Founder
member Mr. Manav Subodh
and his associates. The
program aims to discover and
nurture world’s most
promising youth leaders. The
programme has a well-
designed framework to help
students develop their
leadership and 4th Industrial
Revolution skills.
The three level programme is
integrated with the school
curriculum. At the foundation
level students explore their
area of interest in solving a
problem that makes an impact
in the lives of people around
them.
At the second level they
develop an actionable project
aligned with the United
Nations Sustainable
Development Goals and
finally it culminates in their
going to UN to present their
idea.
Orientation
Grade 9 and 11
Orientation for students and
parents of grade 9 and 11
was held on 8th June where
they were well acquainted
with the remodeled
assessment structure
introduced by CBSE.
Scholastic (especially the
newly introduced internal
assessment pattern for grade
9), co-scholastic areas along
with discipline were
explained in great details.
For grade 11 the objective
was to orient the students
and the parents to
successfully cruise through
the substantial leap the grade
takes in terms of course
content and requisite
diligence on part of the
pupils. The academic
calendar, schedule of
assessments and pattern of
examinations were shared.
The faculty and the Principal
also shared invaluable
pointers regarding pertinent
issues viz. handling
manifold pressures, finding
balance between technology
and real work, nurturing
good health and much more.
NPS KRM’s commitment in
providing an extremely
supportive and holistic
environment to its scholars
was reiterated.

Grade 6
Orientation for the students
and parents of grade 6 on
29rd June covered the three
main areas of assessments-
Scholastic, Co scholastic
and Discipline.
Some important points on
Notebook maintenance,
planned schedule, personal
grooming etc. were also
discussed. Principal, Ms.
Jyotsna Nair, took up the
Q&A session. She stressed
that the students must
abstain from their
overdependence on gadgets
as the present grade is a
crucial transitional period in
their life.
She also advised the parents
to enhance quality family
bonding time without
overindulging the children.
Grade 1
An orientation programme for
grade 1 was held on 21st June
2019. The session highlighted
the various aspects of day to
day functioning of the school,
events, rules regulations,
safety measures, assessments,
and matters related to health
and hygiene. The parents
were made aware of these
aspects. Their queries were
answered to in a Q & A
session.
MONTESSORI
The month of June began with
the Freshers, starting their
academic journey on 7th June
and the Juniors and Seniors
on 19th June. The first day
saw the Freshers get
comfortable in the new
environment with their
parents by their sides.
Fresher Orientation scheduled
on 8th June gave the parents
an in depth understanding of
the functioning of the School
in general and the Montessori
system in particular.
This year the speakers
included, Mrs Sinu Jacob
(mother of Neha Sharon
Jacob, who was a Montessori
child 15 years ago).
Mrs Jacob’s talk was well
received. She provided
valuable and practical tips to
the parents and stressed on the
importance of creating
routines and active parental
involvement in the early
years.
The Junior orientation held
on 22nd June gave parents of
Montessori Juniors an
opportunity to step into their
child’s shoes and experience
working style in a Montessori
environment. It was a joyful
learning experience for the
parents.
On 21st June the Montessori
children celebrated the
International Yoga Day by
doing some of the child
friendly asanas. They seemed
to enjoy the whole process of
exercising and keeping
oneself fit.
KG1 and KG2 -
An orientation program was
arranged for the parents of
KG1 and KG2 on 12th June
and 18th June respectively, to
familiarise the parents to the
teaching – learning
methodology implemented in
the school.
The KG1 teachers presented
an amplified view of the
objectives of the Pre-Primary

approach which gave a clear
understanding to the
parents. The session also
included safety and security
arrangements in school,
events held in school, leave
policy, rules-regulations and
parenting tips to inculcate
healthy eating habits.
Parents were urged to get
involved in their child’s
education and collaborate
with the school to enrich their
young ones’ kindergarten
experience.

Interest Clubs
We learn most when we
exchange ideas and
information with those having
the same passion that we do.
Getting inspiration from Nick
Fury’s words, special people,
when brought together, can
become something more,
students of grade 12 have
formed eight clubs for the
senior students to enrich their
talent in various areas. These
clubs are– Debate, Western
Music, Acapella, Indian
Music, Dramatics, Dance,
MUN and Competitive
Coding. It has now further
expanded to Chess,
Linguistics and Motorsports
and more are on the drawing
board. As a forum to pursue
their interests and learn new
skills, for two periods every
Friday, students from grades
10 to 12 engage in activities
planned by them.

2019 has been declared as the
International Year of the
Periodic table of Chemical
elements by UN and accepted
by UNESCO, as it marks the
150th Anniversary of
Mendeleev’s Periodic Table.
As part of celebrating the
same, the University of
Waterloo came up with a
unique idea of making a
Timeline of Elements Poster
wherein, each element was
assigned to a school or
college across the globe. The
school had to design a tile

As we end this edition, we would like to reiterate
our values for this month - Kindness,
Compassion and Empathy. With this in mind,
we hold the thought that,
“Our mission is not to merely survive, but to thrive, and to do so with some passion, some
compassion, some humor, and some style.”
