We've certainly all been busy!!! Here are just a few things that happened in the way of outreach for De- cember and what we're looking toward as we begin the New Year! All the Prayer Shawls that I received on December 4th were delivered to the Chaplain's office at John Demp- sey Hospital on December 13th. The Chaplains at the hospital were delighted to r eceive so many! They've asked that we please keep them coming!! There are a lot of patients who benefit from them and the Chap- lains will gratefully accept as many prayer shawls as we're willing to bring them! Thank you to everyone who has brought in their shawls so far!! They're abso- lutely beautiful! Anyone who wants to join in please let me know if you nee d Prayer Shawl instructions. Food Sunday will continue to be the third Sunday of every month. I'd like to say thank you to Phil and Maureen Prelli for graciously offering to deliver our donated food items to the Food Bank in Pleasant Val- ley on a continuing basis! All of our Jesse Tree Gifts and Holiday food items were delivered to the Social Worker in Torrington on December 12th. Thank you to all those involved for making this happen! Many hands make light work! Betty Castonguay has generously agreed to organize what I'll call "Fellowship" Meals to any of our parish- ioners who may need a helping hand in receiving a meal or two should they become temporarily sick or injured. I have (10) volunteers so far who are willing to be put on a rotation list to make/buy and deliver a meal to one or more of our church family members should the need arise. Anyone interested in participat- ing in this fellowship ministry is most appreciated. I'm very excited about a new outreach project during the month of February. We will be doing a "Sock Drive" starting the last Sunday of January in order to collect "new" socks for the homeless to be delivered to Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford on Sunday March 4, 2012. The Cathedral gives out over (100) socks, underclothing and toiletries to the homeless every week! So they need all the help they can get. Our goal during February is to collect at least (100) pairs of new socks for distribution at the Cathedral the 4th. If each person from both services brought in just (1) package of socks we could easily make our goal! The Cathedral also provides the h omeless with lunch after their 10:00 am service so this would also be an excellent opportunity to help serve lunch that day as well. Anyone who would like to attend the 10:00 am service at the Cathedral, help bring the socks over and then assist in serving lunch afterward, please let me know!! We would meet at St. John 's to carpool and load up the socks at 9:00 am so we're there in time for the 10:00 am Liturgy. We should be all done with everything by 1:30pm! I will talk more a bout this in the weeks to come. March will be here before we know it! And last but not least...Anyone interested in h osting the meal for Peter's Retreat in 2012, please let me or Salin know. We will continue this very special out- reach ministry as long as we have enough volunteers willing to participate in the monthly dinners. In everything we give Thanks and Praise,  Deacon Denise

Budget Decisions by the Vestry

Since the results of the Annual Appeal were far lower than we had

hoped, the Vestry, after hearing from parishioners, made somehard decisions about ministry in 2012. The rector will take a 10%pay cut in exchange for time off. The parish administrator’s hourswill be reduced from 24 to 20, and the office will be open threedays a week. Cleaning will be done by volunteers, who will becoordinated by Joan Caine. There will not be a paid attendant inthe nursery. Jill Smith and David Childs committed to organizingfundraising efforts to raise a net of $20,000 for the parish (somefunds raised will go to outreach.) Obviously, these decisions haveimplications for the level of commitment needed from all mem-bers of the parish.

Prayer Requests— Requests are handled confiden-tially through the Rector. Prayers will continue for a

month unless other time periods are specified. Youmay fill out a prayer request form or call the rector at693-1851.

13-Year Olds Honored on Feb. 5

At St. John’s we recognize those young peoplewho have become teenagers in the last year. It isour way of acknowledging their changing role inthe church and the church’s support of their grow-

ing in all phases of their lives. At the 10 am service on Feb. 5, we will have a

prayer and encouragement for the teens and theirfamilies as they move towards adulthood. We think we know each of the teens who are 13. However, if you think we might not have gotten your teen’s ageright, let us know by calling the office or email to:[email protected]. We send a letter to eachteen, asking him or her to be part of the service.

On December 11 the Middle School Youth Groupwent caroling at Valerie Manor Nursing Home. Hal-yna and Cheryl Maust had practiced with them fora couple of weeks. They sang and played instru-ments. We ran into our old friend Ashley Jaku-

bowski and passed out gifts we’d made.

Check out www.reddoors.com for updated pixand information about parish activities.

On December 4 prayer shawls knitted and cro-cheted by members of the parish were present-ed. They were taking to John Dempsey (UConn)Hospital for distribution by the chaplain’s office.

On Nov. 27 Derek Burgy (secondfrom left) and Bradley Radziewicz(boy in center) were baptized.

On December 11 Jake Levesquewas baptized.

On November 27 Colin Coatesmade his debut as an acolyte.Matthew Moraski, who had al-ready served once, showed himthe ropes.
