Missing in Action Eight of our members were missing in action: Theresa Clemmons, Sunday Etukeren, Doug Gardner, John Leslie, Brent Patmos, Kristel Pat- ton, Bill Ryan and Jerry Turner. Songs, Fines & Such President Tiffany Jones conducted the meeting, Larry Gardner led us in song and James Caskey conducted the fine session. Roger Morsch talked Jim Patmos out of the Exempt badge. He paid $15 for it. He then con- fessed to his and Mitsi’s 38 th anniversary. Greg Thornton was late. He added a buck for losing a palo verde tree in his yard during a storm, and for Riley opening in “Newsies.” Jim Patmos paid for his and Mary Kay’s 56 th anniversary, and for a trip to Virginia where they are having the wettest July and August on record. President Tiffany Jones paid $5 for forgetting to have guests introduced and for preliminary plans for the Hole-in-One Contest going so well. Cory Whyte and Ron Stevens forgot their Rotary pins. Cory added a buck for his and Lisa’s 12 th anniversary, and for a four-day trip to Napa. Soo-San Stevens Clarke paid $34 for her now five-month-old grandbaby and for her and Jolyon’s 29 th anniversary. Chuy Ortiz took a step for Tim Gibson, his friendship and help. Tim Gibson paid $6 for Joseph Caskey (his godson), for Chuy Ortiz, Su- san’s birthday and their 46 th anniversary, and for Susan and Tim working on a Feed My Starving Children project. Marty Herder paid $10 for losing a personal friend to suicide and reminding us how we all are family and need to be aware of the needs of those close to us. Domestic Violence Event The City of Chandler Domestic Violence Commission will hold its 10 th annual Domestic Violence Event Wednesday, September 19, from 9-11 a.m. at the Chandler Community Center. CHRC President Tiffany Jones and Secretary Soo- San Stevens-Clarke have been involved with the commission for years. The only admission fee is donation of paper products. If you would like to attend, let President Tiffany know. Board Meeting The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors was held Tuesday. The board learned that we no longer sponsor an Interact Club at Chandler High School. Joseph was sponsored by his father, James, who is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. PDG Roger Bonngard conducted the ceremony, reminding everyone of some of the organizations that benefit from our personal contributions to The Rotary Foundation. Program Commander Ed Upshaw told us about the Chandler Police Department’s I AM project that deals with the opioid crisis. He was introduced by Soo-San Stevens-Clarke. The project started two years ago, and is out front of other programs in Arizona and across the nation. The Chandler PD and the Fire Department as well as service organizations are involved. “Anyone can become addicted,” Commander Upshaw said. “And any adult can come in and ask for help. Adults may bring in a minor in which case other resources will be made available.” There is a $7,000 cap per person in available funds. He cited 10 recent cases, of which eight were completed. Scott Lawless paid $5 for Na-tional Dollar Day, for getting his license and an ad he took out, for James and Joseph Caskey, and for pointing out how a reverse mortgage can help people, especially older folks. Gloria Halas paid $6 for Na-tional Dollar Day and for her son and daughter.

The board approved a $95 cost for birthday cards for club members that will be sent out by Ron Stevens.

President Tiffany Jones has been contacted by the Chandler Kiwanis Club about doing a joint park cleanup project with them. The board ap-proved the project in principle. More details will be coming.

We have been invited to join the Sun Lakes Rotary Club for their Christmas party. It was decided to continue to hold our own Holiday Party. If someone wants to attend Sun Lakes, they are free to do so. Date and time for our own party have yet to be determined.

Our club will attend the an-nual YMCA Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday, September 26, from 7-9 a.m. Members who attend will pay the usual $10 breakfast fee and the club will make up the difference. That will replace our regular meeting for that week.

Club members are encouraged to attend the annual Domestic Violence Commission Breakfast Wednesday, September 19 at the Chandler Com-munity Center. There is no charge. Our regular weekly meeting will be held that day.

PDG Roger Bonngard presented nine issues he feels the Chandler Ho-rizon Rotary Club needs to address. More details will be coming.

Buddy BagsPresident Tiffany Jones and

Soo-San Stevens-Clarke have put together a number of Buddy Bags to be handed out at the opening of the new Advocacy Center sponsored by the Chandler Police Department. The bags contain water, snacks, Beanie Babies, a coloring book and crayons, and tooth brushes and tooth paste, the latter two items donated by Dr. Chuy Ortiz.
