OTIS ATTENDS SIAL 2011
CHINA
From left to right: Everett C. Golden, III, Orleans Bragança of Orleans & Castro, and Richard Zhang of
Shanghai Shen Hong Sunlight Imp & Exp Co., Ltd.
Everett Golden and Alanna Maldonado had the great pleasure of introducing
Ghirardelli chocolate to new potential consumers and distributors at the SIAL
CHINA 2011 food and beverage show in Shanghai, China in May. We also
displayed Martinelli’s apple juice, which is always a favorite at shows. As
expected, the Ghirardelli chocolate samples were a huge hit and our booth was
always busy. We are very excited about bringing America’s Favorite Chocolate to
Asia.
OTIS ATTENDS CIBUS/TUTTO - MILAN, ITALY

Delicious Italian rice and grains are an increasingly important part of our VILLAGE
HARVEST line of products. Our CEO, Royce Nicolaisen, traveled to Milan, Italy in
early May to attend the CIBUS/TUTTO FOOD show. He had a chance to visit with our
suppliers of Arborio rice and Farro. The farro is being used in our new recipe of farro
and red rice in our frozen ready-to-eat line.
OTIS TOURS CENTRAL AMERICA – INTRODUCING
THE NEW LA SIRENA LINE OF GOURMET PRODUCTS
Blanca Señor and Royce Nicolaisen traveling in style in Central America with a La Sirena-
equipped vehicle
Royce Nicolaisen and Blanca Senor traveled to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador in June. La Sirena has been the dominant line of canned seafood in Central America since 1918. Our products are not only sold in giant Wal-mart stores but also in almost every tiny "bodega" in isolated country villages. The phrase "da me un Pica Pica" is constantly heard as a request for a can of our spicy seafood. Royce and Blanca were there to introduce our new gourmet line of Mediterranean style sardines. The product is already gaining wide acceptance in the United States.

OTIS ATTENDS UNFI 2011 AND
UNITED GROCERS SHOWS
Mary Lobaugh at Unified Grocers – Long Beach
As National Sales Director, Mary Lobaugh spends a good deal of time in the air.
Recently attending two important tabletop shows, she spent her time educating
buyers about the true benefits of authentic imported rice as well as the time savings
and nutritional boost of our Village Harvest Frozen Whole Grains.
Tabletop shows are not as glamorous as those where the custom booth is used;
however, Mary takes her “kit” of samples, banners, shippers and decorations to
present an attractive and colorful display, sure to draw prospects to the booth.
Along with new 16oz Village Harvest packages that join the 30oz bags, Mary had an
opportunity to demonstrate our newly upgraded in-store display, or “shipper”. While
the earlier version was very effective in drawing attention to Village Harvest
authentic rice and grains, the structure itself needed improvement. The result is a
stronger base with vertically stacking trays that center the weight of the product
perfectly, thereby enhancing stability on the retail floor.
The familiar Village Harvest artwork was applied to the new die line, complete with
import stamps and the phrase “Where in the world will our rice take you?” Both
package sizes fit the new unit, simplifying logistics with the packer. The actual
components are easier to assemble, also aiding productivity when preparing shipper
orders.
Look for the new Village Harvest display at your local supermarket featuring brown
sprouted GABA rice and quinoa!

DISTRIBUIDORA EUROPEA AND OTIS
VISIT SUN•MAID
One of the many pleasures of
working in the international food
business is having our global
business friends visit with us and to
tour the many producers of fine
food products right here in
California. Patricia Rivera and
Jacqueline Acuña had the pleasure
of touring the Sun•Maid facility at
Kingsburg, California with Roberto
Samour of Distribuidora Europea,
one of our long-time customers.
According to the January 2011 edition of
www.relishmag.com, one of our La Sirena
Pica Pica Sardine product cans has found a
new life as a kitchen utensil holder. The
authors at Relish said that, “Some tin cans are
just too pretty to toss in the recycling bin.”
They had offered several clever suggestions
for potential uses, including usage as a salt
and pepper pinch bowl, a spoon holder, a
utensil crock, and even a vase. We must
agree with Relish – that is one beautiful can…
and we can anticipate that with this article,
people all over the planet will begin
decorating their kitchens with this keen set of
suggestions. Thanks Relish!
