After this summer we have many things to praise God about! We had 385 Campers attend Summer Camp. That is a new record for us! We had 18 Campers make 1st time commitments to follow Jesus, 38 Campers rededicated their lives to Him, and 80 Campers were reassured in their salvation. God has been doing great things here at Cove Valley! Many staff members were essential to make this summer a success. Check out page 4 to view a full list of those that served at camp this summer. Hobby Retreat - December 6-8Come to Cove Valley Camp this December for a fun and relaxing weekend. Hobby weekends at Cove Valley are a great chance to come away from the busyness of
life and focus on the activities that bring you joy. Whether your favorite hobby is scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing, reading, or any other hobby, this weekend is for you. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming retreat!
Reflecting on the past 8 weeks of summer camp, it is impossible to try and fit all of the memories/experiences onto a sheet of paper. Summer Camp is just like the quote about raising kids. “The days are long, but the years (insert summer) are short.” There is one constant that connects the days and weeks. God is in control! My heart knows that God is in control, but sometimes my head struggles with that fact. My biggest issue is probably trust. I trust God to provide for my needs and for the summer, but still feel the need to be in control or that I am in control. That desire to be in control results in feeling stressed/overwhelmed. God has provided over and over, so why be stressed? Questions will pop into my head, “Will any campers sign up this year? Will my body (physical/mental/emotional) break down this summer? Will we have enough staff?” The list of questions and doubts can go on and on. I become like Peter as he’s out walking on the water. The camp “waves” are swirling and splashing around me, but as long as my eyes are on Jesus, everything is ok. Too often, my eyes are taken off of Jesus and focused on the waves. As my feet begin to sink, my focus goes back to Jesus and He pulls me up.
During the Thursday evening Chapel for Eagles week, I was leading worship in the meadow. It was dark and we were around the campfire. As we walked over I lamented how we could not see the stars, because there was heavy cloud cover. As worship started, the clouds began to peel back from East to West. The moon popped out, followed by the stars. By the time worship was over, all of the clouds were gone from the sky. The speaker got up, spoke, and then we had a little time of ministry. As we walked down the hill the clouds began to cover the stars again and come back from West to East. God was teaching me a valuable lesson that He is in control. It is always amazing to see how God works in my heart and in the hearts of the campers/staff each summer. Thank you for your prayers and support! Don’t f ocus on t he “waves” in your life, but keep your eyes on Jesus! Blessings. - Eric Roth, Program Director

Summer as a PDA
This summer I had the privilege to work as the Program Director’s Assistant alongside Bethany Blank. Each week of camp leaves many amazing friendships and memories that will last for years. God’s faithfulness was very evident all summer and it was really awesome seeing Him touch the lives of each camper whether they had known Christ for years or this was their first time ever hearing about the good news of Jesus. I learned a lot during my time as a PDA, but what sticks out to me more than anything is that we as Christians are supposed to be available for others all the time. There were countless times during the summer when a camper did not care about the games or the activities we were doing, instead he/she just wanted to talk about family issues, school, and just life in general. It was in these moments that I had to make sure that I was available for that camper instead of being focused on what event was next. God was teaching me to care about the one in front of me even when I felt like I was preoccupied with other things.
During Jesus’ ministry on earth He always had time for the person right in front of Him, and Jesus, of all people, was a busy man. Yet He took the time for each individual person making everyone He interacted with feel valued and accepted. In that same way, my biggest take away from camp is that I need to find the value in others all the time and remember that each person I interact with is loved by God. As a Christian, I have that same duty to love others just as Jesus would love them because I have the Holy Spirit living inside of me. I had a great time at camp this summer and would not trade the experience for the world. Thank you all for your prayers and support. Blessings.
- Shiloh Lehman, Male Program Director's Assistant
Working as the female Program Director’s Assistant at Cove Valley Youth Camp was both incredible yet stretching for me. I was in the middle of my Biology Pre-med degree, where most people would be seeking out resume boosting internships or high paying jobs to further their medical career, when God called me to work at a youth camp all summer. Initially, I was extremely excited to work at Cove Valley since I absolutely love kids and sharing God’s good news with them, but soon after I chose to follow God’s direction for my summer employment, doubts and comparisons started to arise within me; even though I was elated about working with kids all summer there was constantly the question, “Why am I here?” that caused me to question God’s choice in directing me to Cove Valley this past summer. I continued to ask Him why He had called me there. As a naïve and exuberant follower of Christ I expected to go to Cove Valley to help shape and transform
the youth’s lives, but unfortunately was not receiving any tangible evidence of this occurring. That being said, every time I started to become discouraged or fatigued God always provided an ample amount of energy, enthusiasm, and positivity that could only emanate from the Holy Spirit Himself. I saw God work through me in the energy that He continually provided and the wisdom that He graciously bestowed upon me when handling difficult situations with either the campers or the counselors. Working at Cove Valley was absolutely incredible, but it was nothing like I expected it to be; I learned more about the Lord and His relentless love, mercy, and guidance that He lavishes upon us more than anything else, and for those reasons alone I am so thankful and blessed that God guided me in my summer employment to Cove Valley.

2019 Summer Staff It is a great time to be serving the Lord here at Cove Valley. There have been so many people getting involved and helping us minister to our guests, only our wonderful God could orchestrate that. Paul has some wonderful help from Ken Nebelong (and his network of business people) in keeping the equipment going and the meadow mowed with the help of Mariah Ricker and Brynn Vander Griff. Kevin Sheeler has also made himself available for many projects. Thank you for your service! Several others have come to help take care of the flowers and mow the main part of camp. We thank Jennifer Sheeler, Ken Burkett, Richard Horst, Gary Quackenbos, and Lester Horst for making the grounds look so nice for our guests! Many other groups have come to volunteer their services.
God has blessed us with many guest groups. Several Nazarene churches, the Church of Philippi, National Community Church
Youth, Trail Life Man Camp and many other wonderful groups enjoy using the camp for their retreats. While the calendar does have few openings, there is always room for more. If you have something you would like to plan, we would love to help you out. Businesses have played an important role with our Scholarship Fund and our Benefit Auction. Close to 100 businesses contribute yearly to the ongoing ministry of the camp and we thank each and every one of them for the important part they play in bringing groups into relationship with Christ. We serve a wonderful God at Cove Valley and we invite you to be a part of it November 2, at our upcoming Membership Banquet. Please call to learn more.
"This was our first time at the Golden Age Retreat. It brought back memories from childhood camping times. I enjoyed the comraderie of campers, games, and singing. I appreciated the mixing of teens and elderly." - Ronda Clemmer
