Food Service Staff at Sydney Olympic

Park inspired by Food Safety Training!

November 24 & 25, 2010. Thirty catering staff from

Sydney Olympic Park Authority’s catering division

successfully completed Level 1 Food Safety training

by undertaking training and assessment with

Paradigm in the unit “SITXOHS002A Follow

workplace hygiene procedures”. Mr Stewart

Robinson, a qualified chef and food safety ‘guru’,

facilitated the two training sessions. Some

comments from participants included: “Great

exposé of subject; nice to see [Stewart] was

passionate on [the] subject and had work

experience, not just theory” – Gonz. “Great

interaction skills” – Adam. Bernard acknowledged

the practical nature of the training when he wrote:

“Knew his stuff; open to questions; very practical.”

A written assessment of underpinning knowledge

of the unit Follow workplace hygiene procedures

contributed towards being deemed competent.

In addition to classroom participation and

successfully completing the written assessment, a

Third Party Report was completed on each

participant, verifying his/her ability to put into

practice in the workplace the skills and knowledge

acquired through the course. Once these were

received an assessment decision was made

regarding each student’s competence. Once a

student was deemed competent, a Statement of

Attainment was issued.

In explaining why she believed the trainer had an

excellent knowledge of the subject matter, one

student wrote:

all 30 participants on achieving their Statements of

Attainment. We sincerely hope that the training

and assessment has greatly influenced the way

they handle food, both at home, and more

importantly in their work environment, where the

health and safety of the public – both young and

old – is of paramount importance.

Food service outlets and aged care facilities are

invited to contact Paradigm to discuss how Food

Safety training can be tailored to meet their staff

and patrons/residents requirements. Paradigm and

Stewart Robinson have a passion for Food Safety

and a desire to see all food safely handled in NSW.
