Discovery 3: Classy Commercial
Safe lifting on site with SGB
The business relationship between the Severinsen family and T H White goes back to the 1960s when Robert Severinsen’s father bought his first piece of equipment...
“If my memory is correct,” says Robert, “it was
a combine harvester. As the depot was on our
doorstep it was ideal.”
Robert and his wife Jo, together with their four
children, live outside Thornbury and now it is Robert
who runs R Severinsen & Partners. Altogether
they own and rent around 500 acres of land with
a large part of the business being contract work.
Besides himself, Robert has a team of three full-
time workers and a foreman who keep the business
running smoothly. “Over the years we have tried
all sorts of equipment from various manufacturers
and what we operate with now suits us perfectly” he
said.
Richard Fry, T H White’s area salesman,
demonstrated all the equipment before they bought
it, and subsequently they were extremely satisfied
with the quality of the products. The Severinsen’s
New Holland line-up now includes two TM155
tractors, a TX67 combine, a CX820 combine and an
FX60 forage harvester.

The equipment doesn’t end there though!
T H White also supplied three silage trailers,
two KRM drills, a six metre and a four metre
power harrow drill combination, not forgetting
the five-furrow Kuhn plough and front and
rear plain mowers.
“We are doing around 3000 acres of
grass silage and 1000 acres of maize silage
with the FX,” said foreman Roger. “The two
new TMs do a very good job of keeping up
with the FX and, due to their well balanced
power to weight ratio, they cover the ground
well too. The two combines harvest around
2,500 acres of mixed crops between them
and the big CX is a joy to operate.”
When asked why they have always
stayed with T H White rather than any of the
other dealers in the area, Robert explained
that “...we have a great relationship with the
depot at Thornbury. Being long-established
customers, thanks to my father, we have
always had help when we’ve needed it most.
The service support at T H White has always
been good with rapid response times. We
hope to stay with T H White for many years
to come!”
Keeping it in the family Continued from front page
New Holland has just launched ‘Service
Plus’, a scheme that provides
owners of New Holland
machinery and equipment
with additional cover
beyond the expiry of
the manufacturer’s
contractual warranty.
The scheme is
available for the whole
range of New Holland
machines which includes
Tractors, Combine
Harvesters, Forage
Harvesters, Balers
and Telehandlers.
Customers can
configure the
scheme to suit
their requirements,
choosing a period
of cover from two to
five years, or opting
to reduce their excess to a level
between £200 and zero. It is also possible
to vary the cover according to the amount of
use each machine will get.
On the very first day that T H White
Pro-Agri opened for business as a
Case IH dealership in Frome, a highly
satisfied customer purchased a tractor. Not
just any tractor, but the largest in the Case
IH range, the massive STX 530 Quadtrac,
holder of the World Ploughing Record
(featured on the cover of the March edition
of White's World).
In addition to the £220,000 tractor, the
customer purchased a £54,000, seven-
metre-wide Vaderstad Topdown cultivator to
pull behind it. Many thanks to the customer
– whom we hope to profile with his new
equipment in a future issue of White's
World – and credit to salesman Paul
Churches who managed the transaction.
In brief...
On the Case – right from day one!
Eight teams from around the T H White
Group competed in a five-a-side football
tournament at Calne Sports Centre on
Sunday 26th February. Congratulations
go to the Marlborough team who took
the trophy home with Wootton Bassett as
runners up.

Last month T H White
Installation was
delighted to commission
a cereal colour sorter at
Rushall Mill – the first such
equipment of its type that the company
has installed. The Satake AS 160 machine
will sort up to 12 tonnes per hour whilst
providing a much cleaner product than
had previously been achieved using the
existing gravity table.
As Rushall’s Nigel Wookey explained:
“By installing a colour sorter I am investing
in the future as organic grain commands
a premium and I will now be able to offer
a vastly improved product with minimum
wastage.”
Cereal sorter Covéa Fleet – a specialist in mechanical
warranties – is behind Service Plus.
Covéa is a market leader in
insurance for fleet vehicles
and has worked in
partnership with major
manufacturers of cars,
trucks and agricultural
machinery.
So why should you, the
customer, choose to have
Service Plus? It gives you greater
peace of mind with a high
quality of continued support
in the longer term,
backed up by specialist
centres. It also gives
you more security,
with greater control
of your operating
costs and less
down time
when there is a
breakdown.

Graham Knight retired from T H White on
Tuesday 14th March after an incredible 49
years with the company as an agricultural
engineer. Graham was joined by his wife Jill,
son Tim and colleagues at the Devizes head
office to celebrate his retirement.
Graham joined as an apprentice in 1957
when the Devizes branch was in Sidmouth
Street and at that time he worked on Fordson
Majors and Dextas as well as International
Balers. While at Sidmouth Street Graham
met Jill whom he married in 1965.
He has always been interested in fuel
injection systems and vehicle electrics and
specialised in these two areas within a few
years of joining the company.
Graham’s son Tim joined T H White in
1994 to work on warranty for both agricultural
machinery and lorry cranes. He now works
solely for the Crane Division following the
expansion of that area of the business.
Graham and Tim are both tractor enthusiasts,
showing some of their large collection at
the Heddington, Castle Combe and Pewsey
steam fairs. They also enjoy attending the
annual Blandford Steam Fair in Dorset.

March competition winnerCongratulations to John Gale of Church
Farm, Mildenhall, Marlborough, Wilts who
won a 'HotWired' electrically heated suit in
the March White's World competition.
Did you know that for fast milking your cows need to be stimulated during milking as well as before? Failure to replace and over use of worn out liners can harm production with a loss of up to 5%.
DeLaval original liners are made from the best rubber compounds available, their softness and elasticity being well adapted to both the milking machine and the cow's teats – optimal stimulation to achieve high quality milk production.

Over the past year UK scaffolding contractor
SGB has been steadily taking delivery of a
brand new fleet of trucks, ranging from 15-
tonne rigid lorries right up to 44-tonne tractor
units. The majority of the new vehicles are
equipped with Palfinger Lorry Loaders.
Health and Safety is always a key factor
Building based on vision
for SGB which works on busy building sites
and large industrial premises, so the decision
was taken to include radio remote control
as standard on all the lorry cranes. When
combined with a ‘forcefield’ around the cab
and the Paltronic 50 system, safe 360°
operation is guaranteed. With these features
the operator can concentrate fully on his
lifting operation whilst being sure his truck
is rock solid and in no danger from the
crane.
The PK23002 with its 15-degree
upward movement on the outer
boom has proved to be a big hit
when working in tight confines around
scaffold. For more information on all
Palfinger cranes call T H White on 01380

Since 1942 J V Strong
has been servicing the
grasslands of the South
West. With over 200
employees based at 40
depots of varying sizes
throughout Wiltshire,
Gloucestershire, Devon
and Cornwall, J V Strong
is one of the South
West’s leading grasscare
operators. Customers
including the MoD, local
authorities, the Co-op,
English Heritage, water
authorities and the Honda
Factory in Swindon, all give the company high status in the world of
large scale horticultural maintenance.
“We have been dealing with T H White for well over 20 years,”
Said Peter Weston, J V Strong’s Plant Manager. “We now operate a
selection of over 100 mowing machines and various tractors in our
fleet, and the majority of our mowers are Ransomes.
A good selection of cylinder, rotary and gang mowers make us well
equipped to meet our customers' demands”.
Why do they work with T H White Grasscare? “It’s easy,” says
Peter. “I hate to use an oft-repeated phrase
but the service is great. Everyone, from Nigel
Howe, our salesman, to the workshop and parts
department staff are so helpful. We have a good
relationship with the company and we know they
are always there to look after us.”
Why, we asked, has J V Strong now chosen to add a Ferris
zero-turn machine to its arsenal? Peter explained: “We needed to
improve our efficiency over banked areas and tight spaces. Nigel
suggested that we try a new machine called a Ferris. All I can really
say is that we have got on so well that we have ordered another!”
With its 72-inch deck and low centre of gravity, this machine is ideal
for cutting on slopes.
The Ferris 5000 diesel
is a good workhorse.
“We have one operator
on the machine and
he is now an expert at
operating it,” he said.
For more information
on the Ferris range
of zero-turn mowers
please call T H White
Grasscare on 01454

Maintaining a Strong reputation
Continuing an association with T H White
that started in 1984, West Coast Plant has
taken delivery of four Manitou MT1435 SLs,
the first such machines to be sold in the
South West.
22 years ago West Coast Plant’s first
acquisition from T H White was a range of
Matbro telehandlers, road sweepers and
mixers. Today the company is part of the
John Sisk & Son Group of Companies and
offers a full range of telehandlers from 5m to
17m, as well as specialist machines for hire
to the waste and recycling industries.
John Gardner and Matt Hooper, Operations
Director and Plant Manager respectively,
have over 40 years' joint experience in
the building trade, specifically in plant and
tool hire. “The business operates from
Avonmouth near Bristol and we supply
all equipment from small tools to 15-ton
excavators. Our customers range from main
contractors to individual operators” explains
Matt.
Contact your local T H White Grasscare branch to have your sprayer prepared for work to the highest standard and ensure that it meets the NSTS requirements. Call 01454 238181 for details.
Are you applying your horticultural chemicals accurately? Are you experiencing costly down-time? Having your sprayer tested by us in accordance with the NSTS will not only correct these problems but will also confirm your commitment the the Voluntary Initiative.
How efficient is your sprayer?
John Sisk and Son Ltd operates from
London, Manchester, Birmingham, St Albans,
Bristol and Ireland. West Coast Plant is
now poised to take advantage of the size of
its parent company and hopes to become
the first choice supplier to Sisk as well as
servicing its valued existing clients.
When asked why he chose Manitou,
John Gardner said, “Manitou seems to
have got the market right. The machine
offers complete ease of operation and
maintenance. For the size of the machine
its manoeuvrability is excellent and it can
get in and out of confined spaces if required.
We have bought these machines with extra
reach so that our customers do not have to
overstretch or operate on the limit. Dealing
with T H White and Manitou also gives both
us and our customers the peace of mind
that no matter what area of the country we
hire in, we can access top quality servicing
and repairs through T H White and Manitou,
should our own service department not be
able to attend within a satisfactory time.”
The two machines in the photographs are on
their way to Stratford and London for major
Sisk projects. The other two, which have
now been delivered, are earmarked for a
valued customer operating in the South West
region, according to John. “We upgrade our
machines regularly and are pleased to be
dealing with Alan and the T H White Group
as they give us regular, top quality service
and make us feel extremely valued as
customers,” he adds.
Alan Croucher, TH White construction
salesman said “West Coast Plant has always
been a good customer. It made history with its
purchase of the first four machines delivered
in to the South West. We hope that the fleet
of red will only continue to grow...!”
For information on the Manitou MT or the
rest of the line-up, call Alan Croucher on
