A Prayer for Amelie,
Carlotta and Joseph…
Take these little ones dear Father into your loving arms, cover and protect them and guard them from all harm, fill their days with love and joy, nurture all they are, help them as they learn and grow, to feel loved and set apart. Speak to them of truth and light, so that their souls can sing, a cry of praise, a song of joy and a love of peaceful things. Take their little hands dear God and bless them as they pray, let a beautiful love story begin on this their baptism day.

‘PRAYER BOX’
The Collect for the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity: God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit upon your Church in the burning fire of your love: grant that your people may be fervent in the fellowship of the gospel that, always abiding in you, they may be found steadfast in faith and active in service; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen Please pray for: Gillian Leeson, whose husband, John, passed away peacefully in the hospice last Sunday after a long illness. Sophia Greensmith and family. Sophia has this week suffered a relapse of her MS. Paul, Anne, Martin and Clare, the children of Diana Hardy who recently passed away very peacefully and also their wider families and Diana’s friends. KEEPING YOU INFORMED…
SEPTEMBER PCC – HIGHLIGHTS (Meeting held via Zoom 09/09/2020)
Return of Worship Services The return of worship services on Sunday and Tuesday has
gone smoothly and it has been wonderful to see people back in Church. The services will
continue to be available online via Facebook, YouTube and the Phone App for those not
comfortable with returning and to retain the outreach to the many who have viewed our
services during lockdown who would not otherwise have come to Church.
Live Streaming It is hoped to have live streaming of services in place by the last week of
September or early October. Tim and the PCC are also looking at the most cost effective
way of streaming the service to the Centre which would be great for occasions when
there is an overflow of people.
Tap Giving The new tap giving plate is now being used successfully in Church and the
purchase of a second plate has been authorised.
Chair Plaques The commemorative plaques for the new chairs will be coming soon.
Church Centre Now Open The Church Centre is now up and running again as a COVID
secure venue and a number of hirers have returned. We have received many
compliments on the way our facility and hire agreements have been organised in
response to the Corona situation. Congratulations and thanks to the team!!!
Churchyard Quotes are being obtained from contractors for cutting the hedges and
addressing the tree damage in the churchyard. Repairs will also be made to the tarmac
path.
Glass Doors The faculty application (planning permission) has been made to the Diocese
and we hope to hear back by the end of the month.
Chancel Works/Vision 2020 The tendering process for phase two of the project is
continuing (removing pews from the chancel/new staging and ramp access).
Mission Giving Although the church finances have shown some improvement, this is in
part due to staff being on furlough and the PCC still feels the need to be cautious. A
payment of £600 was made to mission partners based on the surplus at June, but further
arrears will remain on hold and the situation will be reviewed at the end of the year.
Furloughed Staff Mrs Cynthia Fawcus has now been unfurloughed and is back working
for the Church Centre. Mr Marcus Hockley is currently working 2.5 days a week and will
be further unfurloughed for 4 days from October so that he can resume online school
assemblies and also plan ahead for events such as the light party and Christmas.
Festivals and Events Planning is taking place for special events and festivals. Harvest
service will be in Church and online on 27th September and everyone will be encouraged
to donate to the food bank. The service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving will be in
Church and online on Sunday 1st November at 4pm. The Carol Service this year will
involve carols, reflections and prayers at various “stations” outside around the village,
date to be confirmed. Keep your eye on notices for further plans and info.
Development of St. John’s as a Community Hub In line with the Diocese’s vision, Tim
and the PCC would love to see St. John’s developed as a community hub providing a safe
place where people can come for coffee and chat, for talks, courses and information that
addresses their needs… as well as Christian teaching and connection. There is likely to be
a strong emphasis on mental health. As part of this, there is a plan to host a community
café once a week in the Centre, which will be run by a couple who have previously
operated the café out of Christ Church in Tonbridge. The PCC has also appointed Sue
Glass as “Ministry Co-Ordinator” to oversee development of the hub alongside Tim.
APCM 2020 The meetings delayed from March will now take place on Monday 12th
October at 8pm via zoom. One matter for the evening is the appointment of our
Churchwardens. Mr Wyatt Glass has offered to stand for re-election, but Mr David Green
will be stepping down. Mr Gordon Paterson has offered to stand. Thanks to all three.
Formal notices about the meetings will be included in next week’s notices and
nominations for wardens, Deanery Synod and PCC will then be open. Nomination forms
will be available from the office or by emailing Amanda
