Carla Temple has been teach- ing and preaching the love of Christ to the people of this vil- lage and many other villages in the area. There is a little church that stands there, partially fin- ished, but complete in the love God has asked Carla to share with these people. Carla and her husband Mike have lived in Ransom Canyon for nine years. They have four children, nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. That’s a big family and it would keep anyone busy watching over them and loving those grandchildren. But Carla has been drawn away from her home and family four times since 2000, travelling to Kenya answering God’s call on her life to preach evangelism to these primitive people. She does her work under the guid- ance of the Southern Baptist or- ganization. Each time she goes, she takes medicine and other necessary items with her to give to the people there. “I am saddened to say that I get District Judge John J. McClen- don III signed a commitment or- der on April 16 for accused killer Sampson Blake Oguntope, 22, of Lubbock. Oguntope is accused of killing Faye Bowen Graye, an 89-year- old Slaton woman in February of 2012. Oguntope was ordered by Mc- Clendon to be committed to the North Texas State Hospital for no more than 120 days. According to the order, Ogun- As the summer approaches, the Slaton Chamber of Com- merce is asking for local citizens for information on home rentals. According to a chamber spokesperson, the chamber is al- ready receiving calls about rental homes in the area. The chamber is seeking infor- mation on rental homes of 3 bed- room or larger size that would be available during the summer months. According to news sources, a former probabtion officer has filed a whistleblower lawsuit in connection with the death of Leah Marie Aguirre, a two- year-old formerly of Slaton. The trips are very hard work and they last 21 days, but God has always blessed their time with many changed lives. “Once I witnessed to a witch- doctor outside her hut. I told her that all of the hand made jewelry on her arms was based on Sa- tan worship and that she needed to take them off. Finally, she did, but she took them off with great reluctance. She shared the gospel with the woman who did accept Christ. When I turned to go, I discovered that twenty-five people outside had accepted the Lord as well. I didn’t know they were there.” Carla always takes medicine to help the people. One person had a very badly burned foot. She got the medicine needed and applied it. It was soon healed. She bought medicine from the pharmacy there for children who have sca- bies. While in Ransom Canyon she has sent three boxes of eye glasses to Mijikenda for those with difficulty seeing. This ministry is very important to her as in 1970 she was dis- covered to have Crohns Disease. The doctors told her in 1984 that if she did not have surgery she would die.
