Planning Week At the end of terms 1, 2 & 3 the school has a special planning week for teachers. This week involves our classroom teaching staff spending one school day to plan in their level teams for the term ahead. As a result our teachers are able to complete a comprehensive term plan for what students will be learning across the term, especially for English, Mathematics and Integrated Studies. Please note that there will be some minor timetable changes during this week as we utilise the available time efficiently. Important Dates: June 23rd Parent/Teacher Interviews 26th End of Term 2 2.30pm finish July 13th Term 3 9am start 17th Alpha Show Incursion 22nd Grade 5/6 Winter Round Robin 23rd– 24th Grade 1/2 Camp 24th Term 3 Grade 3/4 Ski Trip for Selected Students Student Absent Hot Line Number 5964 7783 Launching Place Primary School Issue 18 Thursday 18th June 2015 Student Report/Portfolios The student reports will be sent home next Friday, 19 th June. Please enjoy this opportunity to celebrate your child/ren’s wonderful achievements so far in 2015. It is really important to discuss your child’s report with them, especially prior to the scheduled Parent/Teacher interviews the following week. Here are some suggestions from Michael Grose’s website: www.parentingideas.com.au at report time: Student reports bring mixed feelings for parents. Pleasure and pride if they are performing well but considerable angst when children are not progressing as you hoped. Reports can mean anxious times for children too. Will my parents be disappointed or proud? This is the main concern of most children. Kids of all ages take their cues from their parents, so your reaction to their school report can affect the way they see themselves as learners and as people. Are your expectations for your son or daughter realistic and in line with their ability? Expectations are tricky. If they are too high then kids can be turned off learning. Too low and there is nothing to strive for. Pitch your expectations in line with your child’s abilities. A quick check of your child’s last report may provide you with a good yardstick. Do you believe that children learn at different rates? There are slow bloomers, late developers and steady-as-you-go kids in every classroom, so avoid comparing your child to siblings, your friends’ children and even yourself when you were a child. Instead look for individual progress. Are you willing to safeguard your child’s self-esteem rather than deflate it? Self-confidence is a pre-requisite for learning, so be prepared to be as positive and encouraging as possible. Reports should provide you with an idea of your child’s progress in all subject areas, their attitude and social development. Here are some ideas to consider when you open your child’s report: Focus on strengths Do you look for strengths or weaknesses first? The challenge is to focus on strengths even if they are not in the traditional 3Rs or core subjects.

Student Report/Portfolios The student reports will be sent home next Friday, 19

th June. Please enjoy this opportunity to celebrate your child/rens

wonderful achievements so far in 2015. It is really important to discuss your childs report with them, especially prior to the scheduled Parent/Teacher interviews the following week. Here are some suggestions from Michael Groses website: www.parentingideas.com.au at report time:

Student reports bring mixed feelings for parents. Pleasure and pride if they are performing well but considerable angst when children are not progressing as you hoped. Reports can mean anxious times for children too. Will my parents be disappointed or proud? This is the main concern of most children. Kids of all ages take their cues from their parents, so your

reaction to their school report can affect the way they see themselves as learners and as people.

Are your expectations for your son or daughter realistic and in line with their ability?

Expectations are tricky. If they are too high then kids can be turned off learning. Too low and there is nothing to strive for. Pitch your

expectations in line with your childs abilities. A quick check of your childs last report may provide you with a good yardstick.

Do you believe that children learn at different rates?

There are slow bloomers, late developers and steady-as-you-go kids in every classroom, so avoid comparing your child to siblings, your friends children and even yourself when you were a child. Instead look for individual progress.

Are you willing to safeguard your childs self-esteem rather than deflate it?

Self-confidence is a pre-requisite for learning, so be prepared to be as positive and encouraging as possible. Reports should provide you with an idea of your childs progress in all subject areas, their attitude and social development. Here are some ideas to consider when you open your childs report:

    Focus on strengths

Do you look for strengths or weaknesses first? The challenge is to focus on strengths even if they are not in the traditional 3Rs or core subjects.

  • Take into account your childs effort and attitude to learning

If the report indicates that effort is below standard, then you have something to work on. If your child is putting in the required effort, then you cannot ask any more than

    that, regardless of the grading.

Discuss the report with your son or daughter

Talking about strengths first before looking at areas that need improvement. Ask for their opinion about how they performed and discuss their concerns. After

reports are read and discussed celebrate your childs efforts with a special activity or treat.

Thank You for your co operation .

It is with mixed emotion that we write this note to say "Goodbye" to Launching Place Primary School. Over the past years this school and their wonderful staff , parents and children have made what felt like a massive leap into mainstream school a positive path. Both Jack , Will and all our family have found great support and love in this community and both the boys have achieved goals we

    could have never dreamed off.

A massive thankyou goes to Deb Hobbis for your on going support and passion for providing the boys the best learning environment and support staff, we couldn't have asked for more.

To their years of teachers thankyou for your endless time , energy, flexibility, and caring patient natures you are truly amazing.

To the beautiful children who have held their hands from kinder right through to now . You were amazing role models , beautiful friends to our boys who at times didn't know how lucky they were to have you in their lives. And their parents, you are all beautiful friends of support and love through good times and bad.

To the beautiful support staff who have loved , cared , taught , been their second mums at times you are all true Angels and we will never forget your efforts in providing such amazing support to our boys. Also to the gorgeous office girls who I know have watched over our boys in the sick bay numerous times .

A big thankyou to Narelle for providing support and travel when our family was in desperate need .

And finally to our beautiful Naomi ,we will never forget you . You were our angel who took the brave step to support them through to school. You have been there for us all and thankyou just isn't and will never be enough . How can you thank someone who has cared for your children just like you would ?. You are amazing and will be in our hearts and minds forever.

A big thankyou from Jack and Will to you all xxx Katherine Bryant
