As we said it‛s the essentials. The things on this list may seem like they are not all essential but believe me you will realize very quickly that we have selected the items very carefully.

1. Bike & Bike LockA bike in Newport is worth its weight in gold. You can get everywhere in Newport on a bike whether you are headed to work or taking a trip to the beach. We offer a variety of bikes for men and women and they are on a first come first served basis. If you order a bikes for men and women and they are on a first come first served basis. If you order a pack and pay in full you will have priority bike choice. I will send pictures of the available bikes and reserve your chosen bike. The bikes work on a summer rental basis. We will take a $25 deposit for the bike and lock at the start of the summer and when you return the bike at the end of the summer we will return your deposit if the bike is in full working order. This allows us to ensure we have bikes for Irish students coming on J1s to Newport in the Future.

2.2. Mobile Phone with one month creditA mobile is a must when you arrive. There are a number of different carriers and they all offer very different plans. We have selected the most affordable carrier and plan for you with the option of having unlimited calls and texts or unlimited texts and 100 minutes of calls. Once you receive your phone you will also receive information on how to top up yourphone.

The J1 Arrival Pack is an all-in-one package that contains everything you need when you arrive in America. Over the past 6 years we have gained an understanding of the essentials you need to get in those first few days of arriving from mobile phones to bikes and everything in between. We realize that when you first arrive in Newport the last thing you will want to do is go shopping so we are making your life a whole lot easier. We will drop your pack off at a prearranged location when you arrive so you don‛t have to worry about anything. The best part is that the J1 Arrival Pack also comes with our recently about anything. What is the J1 arrival pack?

NewportRIJ1 is an independent social enterprise that aids J1 students travelling to Newport for the summer. We strive to help with accommodation, jobs, general questions and maximizing your summer experience. We were founded in the March of 2012 by Andrew Menton, a Dublin native and a J1 veteran who spent summers in America in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. He moved to Newport in 2010 where he lives year round. 3. Bed Linens (Sheets)Fresh Bed linens are a must. You want fresh sheets to sleep on the first night and here are the two options you have:• Bed in a Bag (Duvet or Blanket, Fitted Sheet, Flat Sheet, 2 Pillows, Two Pillow Cases)• Sheet Set (Fitted Sheet, Flat Sheet, 1 Pillow, 1 Pillow Case)Your choice depends on personal preference. 4. Air MattressAn Air Mattress is a great item to have whether you are going to use it as your bed all summer long or whether you use it for friends visiting or people staying over. You will get a lot of use out of it. The air mattress will be a standard single bed. Please specify when ordering if you would like a double. (Additional cost for double)

5.5. Mesh Wash BagThe mesh wash bag is a simple addition to the pack but very useful. No better way to transport your washing and it will also act as the storage for your pack when you arrive.

6. Beach TowelGet ready for a summer at the beach. Newport offers a number of beautiful beaches that are all outlined in the “Newport Survival Guide” so you will definitely need a beach towel. Save the space in your bags when packing and take advantage of the one offered in this pack.in this pack.

7. Sun CreamYou are definitely going to need sun cream this summer. You are probably going to bring some with you but you will always need more so this is a necessary addition to the pack

8. Newport Survival GuideWe saved the best for last. Over the past few months we have been compiling a list of important information for J1ers coming to Newport for the summer. It has everything in it you can think of and more. This booklet will be very helpful for navigating your way it you can think of and more.
