‘Challenging and motivating the more able’

A one day conference full of practical ideas and strategies including the use of new technologies

Tuesday 17th November 2015Keynote Speakers

Ian Warwick, Senior Director, London G&TThe keynote Ian will explore effective strategies developed and trialed over many years on differentiation, high challenge low threshold learning and creating a culture of excellence across a school.

Dr. Barry Hymer, Professor of Psychology in Education, University of Cumbria in LancasterThe Keynote - ‘MAG&T in 2015: Beyond 5-10%’. As a longtime critical friend of “G&T”, Barry will show how and why teachers in 2015 have the opportunity to ensure their practice is embedded in their personal and professional values, and in the evidence around defensible practice. After the resource-rich years of the late 90s and noughties, teachers are needing to fall back on the best answers to the best questions, e.g. ‘How do I meet the educational needs of all my pupils, including those already working at an advanced level for their age, in the mainstream classroom? And is this possible without adhering to 20 th

century notions of ‘identification’, ‘distinct T&L opportunities’,

‘Too many of the most able students are still being let down and are failing to reach their potential.’

Both groups will be tested at the end of the learning sequence to assess any real gains. Also a pupil voice will be carried out about their perceptions of using new technologies in a classroom setting. It is envisaged that we will bring some students along for the workshop or at the very least video them.
