Mr van Schalkwyk brings a wealth of commercial, organisational and operational skills to NamibRe. He gained business skills and acumen in finance, forensics, internal audit, enterprise risk management, project management, IT systems, people’s development, finance and operational management. These skills were acquired in executive positions he held in the Life and Medical Insurance industry in countries such as Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. Besides being registered as a Chartered Accountant, he has a Bachelor and Honours Degrees in Accounting, a MBL and a Certificate of Profi- ciency in life insurance (COP1-Life insurance). Mr van Schalkwyk was appointed during the expiry of the employment contract of the former Managing Director Mrs. Anna Nakale-Kawana who left NamibRe at the end of May 2014. In this regard, Mr van Schalkwyk has also been appointed as Acting Managing Director for NamibRe, till such time that a new Managing Direc- tor has been appointed. Mr van Schalkwyk joined NamibRe at an oppor- tune time when his skills are greatly needed. The Board and the entire staff of NamibRe welcomes Mr van Schalkwyk on board and is certain that he will continue to enhance the development of NamibRe to achieve its strategic goal of becoming a leading reinsurance corporation in Namibia and the region.
