About 30 kids from Newlands School (there were 1970 children parcipang in total) came along and parcipated with a posive atude and did really well. We had a lot of fun there entering compeons, playing games, doing acvies, going on obstacle courses, and of course, doing the TRYathlon. Kia ora, assalam-o-alaikum, ni hao, malo e lelei, talofa lava, kia orana, namaste and greetings to everyone.

Last Thursday the full school evacuation practice went smoothly and helped us consolidate our processes and procedures. It is really important for families to know and understand that we have processes that will be followed in the event of an emergency so that all children are accounted for, are safe and calm, and are reunited with family correctly. If you have any feedback for us about the exercise, please email Robyn at [email protected]

Newlands School kids at the TRYathalon over the weekend On Sunday 31st March a group of eager students went to the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon, where we did swimming, biking, and running. About 30 kids from Newlands School (there were 1970 children participating in total) came along and participated with a positive attitude and did really well. We had a lot of fun there entering competitions, playing games, doing activities, going on obstacle courses, and of course, doing the TRYathlon. School Lunches – Subway and Pita Pit Due to very low demand for both Subway and Pita Pit lunch orders we will not be offering lunch orders at all from next term onwards.

School Production Time – Term 2 Next term we are staging our school production. Every child will be involved, on stage, singing, dancing and acting, in a costume and possibly with a bit of stage make-up on as well! It is an exciting time and something we all look forward to every two years. The theme for this production is Dr Seuss and his wonderful and wacky stories and characters. The teachers are in the early planning stages just now, but come week one next term it will be all go. The production will be staged in the Newlands Intermediate Hall and be on three nights Tuesday to Thursday 28 to 30 May. Ticket sales will be advised in the newsletter next term.

Year Six Road Patrollers Our Year Six Road Patrollers are trained by the New Zealand Police and are trained to ensure that all children are safe when crossing the road. We respectfully ask that adults crossing the road do not tell the patrollers what to do as this adds confusion and heightened stress to an already difficult task. The patrollers do a magnificent job and need adults to support their hard mahi.

Good manners for scooter riders Scooting to and from school is a great thing to do, but if you are scooting on the footpath you need to have good manners. Especially if you are scooting with friends in a group. Be aware of other people walking on the footpath and slow down before you pass them. It is really important to have good scooting manners or other people could be badly hurt.

Early drop off at school SKIDs are available for before school care for whanau who need to drop children off early in the morning. The teachers are in their classrooms from 8.30 in the morning onwards, but before that they are involved in professional meetings and class preparation.

Goal Setting Evenings Yesterday we were delighted to meet with many whanau to share learning progress and set learning goals. We will see the rest of you tomorrow afternoon for your goal setting interviews.

What is the Entertainment book?

The traditional Entertainment Book Membership (printed version) is full of thousands of vouchers which have up to 50% off and 2-for-1 offers for many of the best restaurants, cafés, arts, attractions, hotels, travel, shopping and much more. Click here to find out more information about the book membership.

What is the Entertainment Digital Membership? The Entertainment™ Digital Membership offers exactly the same amazing discount vouchers, but it is an app that is downloaded to your smartphone. Click here to find out more information about the digital membership. A great benefit of the digital membership is that you can share it with a family member or friend as it can be downloaded onto 2 separate devices.

How long do the discounts last for? The discount offers are valid from the launch date in early April 2019 and can be used right up to 1 June 2020.

Why are Newlands School selling the Entertainment book memberships? For every entertainment book that is sold through our ordering page, the school receives $13.00. It is a relatively simple fundraiser for the school participate in as it requires a very small amount of administration time to run, with purchasing procedure all online. This year we are putting the money raised through the entertainment book towards purchasing technical lego for the school.

How much does the entertainment book membership cost? Both the entertainment book membership and the entertainment digital membership cost $65.00 each. It is estimated that the amount of savings included in the memberships is $20,000. It doesn’t take long for the cost paid for the membership to be recouped through the discount offers. For example, if you went out for dinner using the ‘receive one complimentary main course when another main course of equal or greater value is purchased’ offer, you have made

approximately $35-$45 saving. After going out to dinner twice, you could have paid back the cost of the membership and all other offers that you redeem are actual savings.

How do I purchase my entertainment membership or access my entertainment digital membership?

Ordering an entertainment book or an entertainment digital membership is easy! Simply go to the Newlands School or-der page, select the region that you would like an entertainment membership for, and follow the instructions for payment. Please call the school office on 04 461 6900 if you need any assistance in the ordering process. If you order a book, it will be distributed from the school office. If you order a digital membership you will receive an email with instructions on how to download the app onto your cell phone.

Can I preview what is included in the entertainment book?

You are able to view most of the entertainment membership at https://www.entertainmentbook.co.nz/about/flickbook. We also have a copy of the Wellington entertainment book in the school office.
