The Giants (8-8) will face their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles (10-6), for the third time this sea-son when they travel to Philadelphia for an NFC Wild Card game. The two teams split the series for just the third time in 22 years this season and the Giants are hoping this season’s pattern holds true: So far each team has stolen its win on the road. The Giants have never lost to Philadelphia in the postseason and lead that series 2-0.

This year marks the first time the Giants have made back-to-back playoff appearances since 1989-90.

Last week the Giants all but clinched a playoff berth by defeating Washington on the road, 34-28. Their draw was solidified by Minnesota’s loss to St. Louis on Sunday.

Tiki Barber played his final regular season game with style, rushing for a career-high and franchise record 234 yards on just 23 carries, a 10.2-yard average. Talk of the Town– What’s being said about and by the NY Giants “We’re counting on being in the playoffs. That is what we play for, that is exactly what all this was about. We tried very much to put that last one aside as quickly as we could and focused on winning this.” - Coach Tom Coughlin “This is a feeling I never had before. I didn’t get to be a part of it last year (because he was sidelined with an ankle injury). This is my first opportunity to go to the playoffs. This game had its ups and downs. With everything we faced this season, to get to where we wanted to get to, and now we have a chance to play four more games – hopefully.” - Antonio Pierce, on making the playoffs. “Given the stakes and what was necessary for us to keep playing, it was right up there. It’s a great way to end my regular season career. It’s close to Virginia (where he grew up) and against my hometown favorite team. So it was special...It’s about getting into the playoffs. We had a goal and aspiration at the beginning of this year. We started well, then we faltered for a long time ( losing six of seven games before Saturday). We needed to have a resurgence and we had it today. We had to win to keep playing, and that means a lot to me.” - Tiki Barber, on his final regular season game. “When you see the back of his jersey running down the field multiple times, you’re aware he’s doing his thing. That’s what he’s capable of doing. Tiki can get through small holes. If we just stay on our blocks, he’s capable of doing that every time. I consider myself fortunate to be able to block for him.” - Chris Snee, on Tiki Barber’s career-high performance. “That’s why he’s Tiki Barber. He sets his own standards. His way of living is different from everybody else’s.” - Antonio Pierce, on Tiki Barber “B. Short made a good hit and I just scooped up the ball like we always practice. (Asked if he ever ran that far in a game before, Robbins said) Not with the ball in my hands. It’s different. I was just trying to hold onto the ball to give the offense a chance to put some points on the board. That was a big play.”- Fred Robbins on his fumble recover and subsequent 67-yard return.

Last Week’s Game Dec. 30, 2006 FedEx Field Giants 34, Redskins 28 LANDOVER, Md. – Tiki Barber proved he wants to keep playing football by saving his best for what could have been his last game. The Giants’ great running back all but assured his retirement will have to wait another week by playing his finest game of the season, rushing for career highs of 234 yards (a franchise record) and three touchdowns – including 50 and 55-yarders - as the Giants defeated the Washington Redskins Sat-urday night in FedEx Field, 34-28. The Giants had a complete turnaround from last week’s dismal 30-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Barber’s previous career high – and the Giants’ former fran-chise record – was his 220-yard outing vs. Kansas City on Dec. 17, 2005. He set the record on his 50-yard touchdown run with 6:13 remaining in the final quarter that increased the Giants’ lead to 34-21. The score capped a drive in which Barber ran for 70 of the 75 yards. The other five yards were the result of a Washington penalty. In addition to Barber’s contributions, the Giants scored on Tim Carter’s touchdown reception and two Jay Feely field goals. Washington scored on three touchdown passes – the first from Antwaan Randle El to Santana Moss and the next two by Jason Campbell, one to Ladell Betts, the other to Mike Sell-ers - plus a one-yard run by T.J. Duckett. Seller’s touchdown lifted the Redskins to within 34-28 with 3:22 remaining. The score ended an eight-play, 68-yard drive that was highlighted by a 34-yard screen pass to Betts. After the touchdown, the Giants went three-and-out, giving Washington the ball at its own 22 with 2:18 remaining. But Campbell threw four straight incomplete passes. The Giants picked up a first down on a pair of Brandon Jacobs runs. Jacobs then got to the one-yard line before Manning twice took a knee to end the game. Duckett’s score with 9:25 remaining in the fourth quarter cut the Giants’ lead to 27-21. Washington drove 66 yards in nine plays following a Giants punt. Campbell com-pleted all four of his passes in the series: two for 37 yards to Randle El and two to Moss for 30 yards. The latter gave the Redskins a first down at the Giants’ five-yard line. Betts quickly gained four yards. Duckett then bulled his way over the goal line for the score. The Giants then handed the ball, the game and their

playoff dreams to Barber. Taking possession at the 25, Barber quickly ran for 10 yards, then five on the next two snaps to set up a third-and-five. Kenny Wright’s defensive holding penalty gave the Giants a first down at the 45. Barber went the rest of the distance, first on a five-yard run off left tackle, then on a 50-yard burst around left end. The Redskins pulled to within 27-14 on Campbell’s seven-yard touchdown pass to Betts with 2:07 remaining in the third quarter. On fourth-and-four, Campbell looked left then rolled to his right before firing a pass to Betts, who went to the ground just past the goal line to catch the ball. The score capped an 11-play, 69-yard drive that took 7:04 to complete. The big gains on the march were runs of 17 yards by Betts and a 15-yard scramble by Campbell on third-and-nine, as well as a 16-yard pass to tight end Chris Cooley. Campbell’s seven-yard third-down pass to Betts moved the ball to the seven. Trailing by 20 points, Washington Coach Joe Gibbs went for the score and the decision paid off when Campbell found Betts. Manning’s six-yard touchdown pass to Tim Carter with 9:11 remaining in the third quarter increased the Giants’ lead to 27-7. It was Carter’s second touchdown catch of the season. The score was set up by the first interception of Jason Bell’s six-year career. The safety picked off a Campbell pass intended for Moss at the Giants’ 46-yard line. The big play of the drive was actually a penalty. Carter couldn’t catch Man-ning’s long pass down the left side because safety Sean Taylor interfered with him. The 31-yard infraction gave the Giants a first-and-goal on the six. On the next play, Manning found an open Carter in the end zone for the touchdown. Feely’s second field goal, a 31-yarder with just two seconds remaining in the second quarter, increased the Giants’ halftime lead to 20-7. Before the kick, the Giants moved 59 yards in 11 plays, including Manning passes of 11 yards to Barber and eight yards to Carter. The Giants appeared to score a touchdown when Plaxico Burress caught Manning’s pass in the end zone, but Burress and Washington cornerback Ade Jimoh were flagged for offsetting pass interference penalties. On the next play, Manning’s pass for Burress fell incomplete, but Jimoh was penalized for taunting, which gave the Giants a 13-yard boost to the 13. Feely then kicked the field goal for the 13-point half-time lead. Barber’s season-long 55-yard touchdown run in-creased the Giants’ lead to 17-7 with 5:44 remaining in the second quarter. It was Barber’s longest run since his record 95-yard run in the 2005 season finale on Dec. 31 in Oakland. His

previous long this year was a 46-yard run against Chicago, which he did not score on. Barber, who rushed for 137 yards in the first half, took a handoff from Manning, slipped through the left side of the line, sidestepped an attempted tackle and took off for the end zone to score his second touchdown of the quarter. The score concluded a 97-yard drive that was the Giants’ longest of the season. The previous long touchdown drive was a 94-yarder at Seattle on Sept. 24. The series in-cluded a 12-yard pass to Burress on third-and-seven that moved the ball to the Giants’ 29-yard line. Three players later, Barber’s 11-yard gave the Giants a first down on the 45. On the next snap, Barber scored. The Giants took a 10-7 lead on Barber’s 15-yard touchdown run with 13:15 remaining in the second quarter. The score enabled Barber to reach two milestones. The touchdown was the 66th of his career (53rd rushing), breaking a tie with Joe Morrison and moving Barber into second place on the Gi-ants’ career list. Frank Gifford is first with 74 touchdowns. In addition, Barber increased his points total to 404. He is the fifth Giant in history with at least 400 points, joining Pete Gogolak, Brad Daluiso, Gifford and Joe Danelo. Barber’s touchdown successfully concluded a seven-play, 42-yard drive that included a key 14-yard Manning pass to Burress on third-and-nine. That moved the ball to the Wash-ington 15. After an incomplete pass, Barber took a handoff to his left, broke through the line and almost lost his balance before charging to the score. The Redskins took a 7-3 lead when one Redskins wide receiver, Randle El, threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to another wideout, Moss, with 4:58 remaining in the first quarter. On first down, quarterback Jason Campbell faked a

handoff to Ladell Betts, then gave the ball to Randle El, who was running from left to right. With Osi Umenyiora bearing down on him, Randle El threw a long pass to Moss, who jumped

and caught the ball at the goal line, despite the nearby pres-ence of cornerback Sam Madison. It was the third career touchdown pass for the ver-satile Randle El. He threw one in 2004 and another in 2005 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has completed 17 of 21 passes in his career, including two of three this season. The last time a player other than a quarterback threw a touchdown pass against the Giants, it was also a Red-skin in FedEx Field. On Dec. 24, 2005, running back Clinton Portis threw a 17-yard scoring pass to tight end Chris Cooley in a 35-20 Washington win. Moss’ touchdown capped a five-play, 80-yard drive that followed a Giants field goal. Just before the touchdown, Betts ran 21 yards up the middle to put Washington in Giants territory. The Giants took a 3-0 on Feely’s 34-yard field goal with 7:02 remaining in the first quarter. The three points in-creased Feely’s season total to exactly 100. The score was set up by a big takeaway by the Gi-ants defense: Fred Robbins’ 67-yard return of a Betts fumble that was forced by Brandon Short. On second-and-four from the Giants’ 18, Betts took a handoff and was promptly met by Short, who delivered a hard blow that knocked the ball loose. Robbins picked up the ball and ran unencumbered down the left sideline until James Thrash caught him at the Washington 12-yard line The Giants couldn’t take full advantage of the takeaway, be-cause Manning was sacked on second down and threw an in-completion to Plaxico Burress on third down. Feely then came on to give the Giants their first three points.

The Last Time Dec. 17, 2006 Giants Stadium Eagles 36, Giants 22

On Sunday, the Giants lost their third consecutive home game and fell to 3-4 in Giants Stadium with a 36-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants lost two of their three division home games, beating only Washington.

The defeat dropped the Giants to 7-7 and tied with the Atlanta Falcons for the NFC’s sixth and final playoff berth. Because they own a victory over the Falcons, the Giants still control their playoff destiny. If they win their final two games – next week at home against New Orleans and at Washington – they are guaranteed a playoff berth.

Philadelphia moved a game ahead of the Giants at 8-6, one game behind Dallas in the NFC East race.

The Giants matched their season high with four turnovers, surrendered 161 rushing yards, gave up a key 64-yard kickoff return and twice kicked field goals after putting

themselves in first-and-goal situations. Brian Westbrook rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns and Correll Buckhalter had 48 yards and another score for the Ea-gles. Defensive end Trent Cole scored the fourth touchdown on an interception return. Tiki Barber and Brandon Jacobs scored touchdowns and Jay Feely kicked three field goals for the Giants The Eagles scored two touchdowns in 10 seconds late in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory. After the Giants took a 22-21 lead on Jacobs’ touchdown run with 7:05 left in the game, Philadelphia took possession at its own 20-yard line. On the fourth play of the drive, Jeff Garcia threw a 27-yard pass down the middle to tight end L.J. Smith. That moved the ball to the Giants’ 36-yard line. Four plays later, Garcia fired a 19-yard touchdown pass up the right sideline to Reggie Brown, who got a step on cornerback R.W. McQuarters. Garcia’s two-point conversion to Smith gave the Eagles a 29-22 lead. After a touchback, the Giants took over at their own 20. They were confident they could match the Eagles’ 80-yard drive. On the Giants’ first offensive play, Eli Manning tried to throw a pass to Burress in the face of a heavy rush by blitzing corner-back Sheldon Brown. The ball flew up in the air. Bar-ber attempted to bat it down but missed and it was plucked out of the air by Cole, who ran 19 yards for the backbreaking touchdown. Jacobs’ one-yard touchdown run with 7:05 remaining in the fourth quarter gave the Giants a 22-21 lead. The Giants went for two, but Barber was stopped short. The Giants took possession when Demps intercepted a Garcia pass, his second pick of the season, at the Giants’ 12, ran for 29 yards to the 41, then lateraled to McQuarters, who added 24 more yards to bring the ball to the Eagles’ 35-yard line. A pass interference penalty on Brown gave the Giants a first down at the two. Another penalty moved the ball a yard closer and Jacobs then powered the ball into the end zone for this ninth touchdown of the season. Late in the third quarter, Demps sacked Garcia and forced him to fumble. The ball was recovered by Pierce at the Eagles’ seven-yard line. Philadelphia coach Andy Reid challenged the ruling, which was upheld after a review by referee Gerry Aus-tin. Despite the advantageous field position, the Giants gained only one yard in three plays and Feely came on to kick a 24-yard field goal, his third of the game and second in a little more than two minutes, to give the Giants a 16-14 lead with 14:08 remain-ing in the fourth quarter.

The Giants followed that with another major error, allowing Reno Mahe to return the ensuing kickoff 64 yards to the Giants’ 36-yard line. Three plays later, on second-and-two, the Eagles spread the defense by lining up with four wide receivers, then handed off to Westbrook, who ran 28 yards untouched up the center of the field for the score. The Eagles became the first team to rush for three touchdowns against the Giants since the San Diego Chargers did on Sept. 25, 2005. Feely’s 23-yard field goal with 1:10 remaining in the third pe-riod moved the Giants to within a point at 14-13. The score was set up by Manning’s season-long 52-yard completion to Bur-ress, who beat cornerback Lito Sheppard, caught the ball at the 36-yard line and raced all the way to the 10. But Barber lost two yards on first down and the Giants got no closer than the five before Feely was summoned. Less than two minutes before Feely’s three-pointer, Philadel-phia missed a chance to score when David Akers’ 48-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left with 3:02 remaining in the third quarter. Feely’s 47-yard field goal with three seconds remaining in the second quarter closed the Giants’ halftime deficit to 14-10. The Giants drove 39 yards in five plays prior to the field goal, including two passes to Shockey for 20 yards and two more to Tim Carter for 19 yards. The second moved the Giants to the Philadelphia 29-yard line. The Giants called their final timeout with 14 seconds remaining. After an incomplete pass, Feely kicked his season-long 47-yarder. A pair of turnovers hurt the Giants in the second quarter. Safety Brian Dawkins was involved in both takeaways, with the sec-ond one leading to an Eagles go-ahead score. The Giants were driving and had a third-and-one early in the period when Jacobs gained 12 yards on run up the middle. But Jacobs fumbled when he was hit by Dawkins and the ball was recovered by safety Sean Considine at the Philadelphia 27-yard line. But the Eagles couldn’t capitalize and eventually punted. Later in the quarter, Manning’s pass for Shockey bounched off defensive tackle Mike Patterson's helmet and was inter-cepted by Dawkins, who was immediately tackled at the Eagles’ 44-yard line. But Shockey was penalized 15 yards for unsports-manlike conduct, moving the ball up to the Giants’ 41-yard line. The turnover ended Manning’s streak of passes without an interception at 77. It proved to be costly when Westbrook dove into the end zone from a half-yard out on a fourth-down with 1:02 left in the second quarter. The touchdown gave Philadel-phia a 14-7 lead. A nine-yard pass to tight end Smith gave Philly a first-and-goal at the eight. Westbrook’s six-yard run quickly put the ball at the two. But two short runs – one each by Buckhalter and West-

brook – left the Eagles with a fourth-and-goal. Reid went for the touchdown and Westbrook made the decision pay off when he soared over the right-center of the line for the score. Buckhalter’s two-yard run with 6:18 remaining in the first quar-ter tied the score at 7-7. Philadelphia responded to a Giants touchdown by driving 80 yards in 12 plays. The touchdown was just the second third-down snap in the series. On the first, the Eagles converted a third-and-11 when Garcia completed a short pass that West-brook turned into an 11-yard gain. Garcia’s 20-yard pass to Brown gave the Eagles a first down on the Giants’ 30-yard line. Buckhalter’s seven-yard run and a 14-yard pass to Westbrook set up a first-and-goal at the nine. Buckhalter gained three yards and Garcia scrambled for four around right end before Buckhalter stepped through a hole in the center of the line for his first rushing touchdown of the season. The Giants took a 7-0 lead on Barber’s 11-yard touchdown run up the middle just 2:26 into the game. Philadelphia went three-and-out on the game’s first possession, Chad Morton ripped off a season-long 38-yard punt return to the Eagles’ 21-yard line. Eli Manning then threw a five-yard pass to Barber. After Darwin Walker was penalized five yards

for encroachment, Barber took a handoff and ran through the Eagles defense for his second touchdown of the season and the 65th of his career, tying him with Joe Morrison for second on the Giants’ career list. Frank Gifford is first with 78 touch-downs. New York Minutes Giants in January- The Giants, who won the NFC East in 2005, will qualify for the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1989-90. The postseason appearance will be the 28th in franchise history, tying the Giants with the Dallas Cowboys for the most in NFL history. The Giants are the eighth 8-8 team in history to make the playoffs. The others are the 1985 Cleveland Browns (the only division champion in the group), 1990 New Orleans Saints, the 1991 Jets, the 1999 Cow-boys and Detroit Lions and the 2004 Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Rams. The Saints, Jets, Cowboys and Lions lost in the first round. The Browns, Vikings and Rams lost in the second round. With Philadelphia, Dallas and the Giants all making the play-offs, this is the fourth time since the NFC East was formed in 1970 with those three teams, plus Washington and Arizona, that three division teams will play in the postseason: 1981 – Dallas (12-4), Philadelphia (10-6), and Giants (9-7) 1990 – Giants (13-3), Philadelphia (10-6), and Washington (10-6) 1992 – Dallas (13-3), Philadelphia (11-5), and Washington (9-7) 2006 – Philadelphia, Dallas, and Giants (8-8) Bold – won Super Bowl; underlined – won a playoff game Tom Coughlin- has led the Giants to the playoffs in two of his three seasons with the team and will make his sixth postseason appearance in his 11 years as an NFL head coach. His playoff record is 4-5. Well-traveled- The Giants finished 5-3 on the road after going 3-5 at home. This is the first time since 2000 that the Giants had a better record on the road. That year, they were 5-3 in Giants Stadium and 7-1 as visitors and won the NFC cham-pionship.

A clean sweep- The Giants swept the Redskins for the first time since 2002 and finished 4-2 in division games. Grand openings- The Giants scored first in 13 of their 16 games this season and were 7-6 in those games. The Giants did not allow their opponents to score an opening-possession touchdown in their last 14 games, the longest streak in the NFL.

FedEx ground- The Giants’ 261 rushing yards was their highest total since they ran for 262 yards on Oct. 30, 2005 – also against Washington, though that game was at home. Those are the two highest rushing totals in Coughlin’s 185 regular season and postseason games as an NFL head coach. Ball security- The Giants did not turn over the ball for the fourth time this season. They have won their last eight games in which they did not have a turnover, dating back to last sea-son. First and 10- The Giants converted a season-high 57 percent of their third down attempts (eight of 14). They twice converted 56 percent (nine of 16): vs. Washington at home and at Dallas. Tiki Barber- put on one of the finest performances of his career in his last regular season game. Barber rushed for a career-high and franchise record 234 yards on just 23 carries, a 10.2-yard average. His previous best was a 220-yard game vs. Kansas City on Dec. 17, 2005. Barber is the first player in NFL history to average 10.2 yards per rush in a game with 23 or more carries. Barber finished the season with 1,662 rushing yards, the sec-ond-highest total of his career and the second-highest total in Giants history. He rushed for 1,860 yards last year. Barber extended his record by leading the Giants in rushing for the 80th consecutive games (every game for the last five seasons) and finished his career with 10,449 yards. That’s good for 19th on the NFL’s career list. Barber passes Arizona’s Edgerrin James this weekend. James has rushed for 10,385 yards. Barber is 3,247 yards ahead of Giants runner-up Rodney Hampton. Barber rushed for more than 200 yards in a game for the fifth time. That is the second-highest total in NFL history. Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson had six 100-yard games. Barber had been tied for second place with three other Hall of Famers – Jim Brown, Earl Campbell and Barry Sanders – plus San Diego’s LaDainian Tomlinson. It was also the 38th time Barber rushed for more than 100 yards in a game. The Giants were 25-13 when Barber exceeded 100 yards on the ground. Barber’s 234 rushing yards are the most in the NFL this season,

eclipsing the 223 yards Pittsburgh’s Willie Parker gained on Dec. 7 against Cleveland. Barber also caught three passes for 24 yards. He finished the season with 2,127 yards from scrimmage, the second-highest total of his career and his third consecutive season with more than 2,000 yards. It was the fourth time he had more than 2,000 total yards. In 2000, Barber had 2,057 yards: 1,006 rush-ing, 719 receiving and 332 on punt returns. Barber’s 258 yards from scrimmage were the fourth-highest total in Giants history. Barber has three of the top four games in team history: Giants Best Single-Game Yards From Scrimmage Performances Player Opponent Yards Breakdown Tiki Barber Philadelphia 276 203 rushing, 73 receiving Del Shofner Washington 269 269 receiving Tiki Barber Oakland 263 203 rushing, 60 receiving Tiki Barber Washington 248 234 rushing, 24 receiving No one will be happier to see Barber retired than the Redskins. In his last four games against Washington, Barber rushed for 643 yards, a 160.75 per-game average. That included games of 206 and 234 yards. Barber scored a career-high three touchdowns after scoring just two in the first 15 games. He rushed for two touchdowns in a game six times. Barber is the first Giant to score three touch-downs in a game since Amani Toomer in the NFC Wild Card Game in San Francisco on Jan. 5, 2003. Toomer was also the last to accomplish that feat in a regular season game on Dec. 22, 2002 at Indianapolis. The three rushing touchdowns are the most by a Giant since Hampton had four against New Orleans on Sept. 24, 1995. Barber’s first touchdown, on a 15-yard run in the second quar-ter, enabled him to reach two milestones. The touchdown was the 66th of his career, breaking a tie with Joe Morrison and moving Barber into second place on the Giants’ career list. Frank Gifford is first with 74 touchdowns. Barber, of course, finishes his career with 69 touchdowns (55 rushing, a team record). In addition, with that first touchdown, Barber increased his points total to 404. He is the fifth Giant in history with at least 400 points, joining Pete Gogolak, Brad Daluiso, Gifford and Joe Danelo. Barber ends his career with 416 points.

His previous long this year was a 46-yard run against Chicago, which he did not score on. Barber will retire as the Giants’ career receptions leader with 586. He finished the season with 301 completions, topping the 294 he had in 2005, his first full season as a starter. This is the fourth season in history the Giants have had a quarterback complete 300 passes. Kerry Collins had the other three: 335 in 2002, 327 in 2001 and 311 in 2000. Manning threw 24 touchdown passes, matching his 2005 total. He is the first Giants quarterback to throw at least 20 touch-down passes in consecutive seasons since Phil Simms did it three years in a row from 1984-86. Jay Feely- kicked two field goals and four extra points, increasing his season total to 107 points. It is his fourth career 100-point season, including both of his years with the Giants. Feely made 23 of 27 field goal attempts this season, an 85.2 success rate that is the third-highest in a season in Giants his-tory (minimum 14 attempts). Daluiso made 88.9 percent (24 of 27) of his field goal attempts in 1996 and Cary Blanchard made 85.7 (18 of 21) in 1999.

In two seasons with the Giants, Feely has made 58 of 69 at-tempts, an 84.0 success that is easily the highest in fran-chise history for kickers with at least 50 attempts. Daluiso previously held the record with 76.9 percent (123 of 160). Jeff Feagles- played in his 304th career game, breaking a tie with Jerry Rice and moving into fourth place on the NFL’s all-time list, behind only Morten Andersen (365), Gary Anderson (353) and George Blanda (340). Plaxico Burress- caught two passes, increasing his ca-reer total to exactly 400. Running the option?- Backup quarterback Jared Lorenzen played the first regular season down of his career, rushing for two yards and a first down in the second quarter. Eating grass- Adrian Aawsom picked up his first NFL sack when he dropped Jason Campbell for a three-yard loss in the third quarter. The Giants finished the season with 32 sacks, their lowest total since they had 31 in 1999. Osi Umenyiora led the with six sacks, the lowest total by the team leader since Michael Strahan and Chad Bratzke had five apiece in 1996. We’ll take that- Jason Bell’s third-quarter interception of a Jason Campbell pass was the first of his six-year career. Deep in the playbook- Washington wide receiver Antwaan Randle El threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Santana Moss. The last time a player other than a quarterback threw a touchdown passes pass against the Giants, it was also a Red-skin in FedEx Field. On Dec. 24, 2005, running back Clinton Portis threw a 17-yard scoring pass to tight end Chris Cooley in a 35-20 Washington win. He can cook, too- David Diehl started for the first time in his career at left tackle in place of Bob Whitfield, who re-placed the injured Luke Petitgout in the previous six games. Since joining the Giants in 2003, he has played right guard, right tackle and left guard. He last played tackle on Dec. 17, 2005 against Kansas City. Diehl, a fifth-round draft choice in 2003, has started all 65 regular season and postseason games in his career. Grey Ruegamer started at left guard, the initial start of his first season with the Giants. It was the 19th start of Ruegamer’s eight-year career and first since Dec. 25, 2005, when he played for Green Bay against Chicago. That start was at right guard.

11

When Ruegamer left the game after sustaining a deep cut in his shin late in the first quarter, Diehl moved over to guard and Whitfield played tackle. Inactives/Injuries- The Giants inactive players were tight end Jeremy Shockey (ankle), offensive lineman Rich Seu-bert (leg), wide receivers Michael Jennings and Darius Watts, cornerback Frank Walker, defensive tackle Titus Adams and running back Robert Douglas. Tim Hasselbeck was the third quarterback. Shockey sprained his ankle late in last week’s loss to New Orleans. This is the fourth season in a row Shockey missed the regular season finale, the second year in a row with an ankle injury. He sat out the final seven games of the 2003 season with a knee injury (but was still selected to the Pro Bowl). In 2004, he was sidelined for the final game with a back injury. Last year, an ankle injury kept him out of the last regular sea-son game in Oakland, but he returned the following week for the NFC Wild Card Game against Carolina. Although he didn’t play, Shockey finished the season as the Giants’ receptions leader with 66. Burress was next with 63. Return of “The Duke- The NFL has renamed its offi-cial game ball “the Duke” in honor of Wellington Mara, the late Giants’ owner. Mara, who died last October, was named after the Duke of Wellington and acquired the nickname “the Duke” when Giants players began calling him it as a child. The NFL’s official game ball was known as the Duke from 1941-69, at the suggestion of Chicago owner George Halas. Halas and Tim Mara, Wellington’s father, were also responsible for making Wilson the league’s official supplier of game balls. Use of the name was discontinued in 1970, following the merger of the NFL and the American Football League. This season it will re-turn to honor one of the most influential members of the NFL family. Eagles to Giants– Tom Coughlin spent the 1984 and 1985 seasons with the Eagles as a wide receivers coach … Secondary/cornerbacks coach Peter Giunta served as Philadel-phia’s defensive backs coach from 1991-1994 … Carlos Emmons was signed by Philadelphia as an unrestricted free agent on March 23, 2000. He was signed by the Giants as an unrestricted free agent on March 5, 3004 … Jeff Feagles was awarded to Philadelphia off waivers on June 5, 1990. He did stints with Phoenix and Seattle before being signed by the

Giants as a free agent on March 7, 2003 … Jim Finn attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia … Tim Hassel-beck was signed by Philadelphia on Feb. 6, 2002. He spent time with the Berlin Thunder and Carolina before rejoining the Ea-gles on their practice squad on Nov. 19, 2002. Hasselbeck was signed to the Eagles’ active roster on Nov. 27 and was released on Aug. 31, 2003. He spent six months with the Washington Redskins before being awarded off waivers to the Giants on May 9, 2005. Giants to Eagles– Senior vice president of business operations Mark Donovan signed a free agent contract with the Giants after his graduation from Brown … Defensive assis-tant/quality control coach Mike Reed graduated from Boston College in 1994. For the first three years of his collegiate ca-reer, he player for head coach Tom Coughlin. In Coughlin’s final season with the Eagles, Reed earned second-team All-Big East honors … Dhani Jones was selected by the Giants in the 6th round of the 2000 draft (177th overall). He played four seasons with New York before signing with the Eagles as an unrestricted free agent on March 9, 2004. Looking ahead- The Giants’ 2007 opponents are set. In addition to home and home series with NFC East opponents Dallas, Philadelphia and Washington, the Giants will host Green Bay, Minnesota, San Francisco, New England and the Jets. They will travel to Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Buffalo and Miami.

Rookie Ron Dixon gave the Giants an instant lead when he returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. The Giants increased their lead to 10-0 on Brad Daluiso’s 37-yard field goal on the first play of the second period. Jason Sehorn made it 17-0 when he scored on a spec-tacular 32-yard interception return in which he fell to the ground while tipping the ball in the air, then jumped up and grabbed the ball before racing to the end zone. Head Coaches Tom Coughlin NFL Record: 97-88-0 NFL Head Coach: 11th season College: Syracuse Tom Coughlin was named the 16th head coach in Giants history on Jan. 6, 2004. A highly-respected coach who has succeeded as a head coach in the NFL and on the collegiate level, Coughlin was an assistant coach with the Giants when they won Super Bowl XXV in 1990. The Giants improved from four to six victories in Coughlin’s first season and last year went 11-5 and won the NFC East division championship. It was Coughlin’s third division title and fifth appearance in the playoffs in his 10 seasons as an NFL head coach. Coughlin is 93-83 (.528) in the regular season and 97-78 (.554) in all games. Coughlin’s 93 regular season victories place him 11th among current NFL head coaches. Nine of the 10 coaches ahead of him have coached at least one more season than Coughlin and one, Tony Dungy, has coached the same number of years. He is the only one of the 11 to have coached an expansion team. Coughlin became the first head coach of the expansion Jaguars on Feb. 21, 1994, 559 days before the franchise played its first regular season game. In 1995, Jacksonville won four games, more than any previous expansion team in NFL history. The following year, Coughlin was named NFL Coach of the Year by United Press International as the Jaguars made the playoffs in just their second season and advanced all the way to the AFC Championship Game, where they lost to the New England Patri-ots. That began a streak of four consecutive playoff seasons for the Jaguars. In both 1997 and ‘98 Jacksonville won 11 games, winning their first division title in 1998. The following season, the Jaguars had an NFL-best record of 14-2 and again advanced to the conference title game. Coughlin arrived in Jacksonville following three years as the head coach at Boston College, where he turned a struggling program into a Top 20 team. He was 21-13-1 in three seasons

(1991-93) with the Eagles, including 9-3 in 1993, when Boston College won eight consecutive games, defeated top-ranked Notre Dame, 41-39, and beat Virginia in the Carquest Bowl. Coughlin was the Giants wide receivers coach under Bill Parcells from 1988-90. Under his tutelage, receivers such as Mark In-gram, Lionel Manuel, Odessa Turner and Stephen Baker all improved and helped the Giants win their second Super Bowl. Coughlin began his coaching career in 1969 as a graduate assis-tant at Syracuse, his alma mater. He was the head coach at the Rochester Institute of Technology from 1970-73, compiling a record of 16-15-2. Coughlin returned to Syracuse in 1974, first serving as quarterbacks and offensive backfield coach for three seasons before being promoted to offensive coordinator for four years. In 1981, Coughlin went to Boston College for the first time, as quarterbacks coach under Jack Bicknell. Coughlin entered the NFL as the Philadelphia Eagles’ wide re-ceivers coach in 1984 and ‘85. He held the same position with the Green Bay Packers in 1986 and ‘87 before moving to the Giants for a three-year stint. Coughlin was a three-year letterman at Syracuse University from 1965-67. As a senior in 1967, Coughlin broke Syracuse’s single-season pass receiving record. That year, he won Syra-cuse’s Orange Key Award as the university’s outstanding scholar-athlete. He graduated in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in education and received a master’s degree in education the following year. Thomas Richard Coughlin was born on Aug. 31, 1946 in Water-loo. He is the oldest of seven children. Coughlin and his wife Judy, have two daughters, Keli and Katie, a son-in-law Chris (Katie’s husband) two sons, Brian and Tim, two daughters-in-law, Andrea (Tim’s wife) and Susie (Brian’s wife), and four grandchildren, Emma Rose, Dylan, Shea Thomas and Cooper Christopher.

Head Coaches Andy Reid NFL Record: 87-53 NFL Head Coach: 8th season College: Brigham Young Andy Reid took over the Philadelphia Eagles on January 11, 1999. During his tenure, Reid, 47, has captured four consecu-tive division titles and four trips to the NFC Championship game from 2001-04. His vision, his dedication, his passion and his organ-izational skills are impeccable. For those reasons he was pro-moted to head coach/executive VP of football operations on May 8, 2001. Reid's contract was extended to 2010 during the 2004 season. Reid came to the Eagles after spending seven sea-sons as an assistant coach with Green Bay under Mike Holm-gren. During that span, the Packers reached the playoffs six times and defeated New England in Super Bowl XXXI. In his 14-year NFL coaching career, Reid's teams have made the playoffs 11 times (16-10 record in those games). He has coached in the Super Bowl three times, in the NFC Cham-pionship game seven times and in the Pro Bowl four times. Reid enjoyed a two-year stint as the Packers quar-terbacks coach, working with Brett Favre from 1997-98. Prior to tutoring Green Bay's quarterbacks, Reid oversaw the tight ends, while assisting offensive line coach Tom Lovat. A tackle and guard at Brigham Young University from 1979-81, Reid entered the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant under LaVell Edwards in 1982. It was at BYU that Reid met and worked with Holmgren, who served as the QB coach. Reid next moved to San Francisco State in 1983 and helped them lead the nation in passing and total offense three consecutive years (1983-85). He went on to develop quality offensive lines at Northern Arizona, Texas-El Paso and Mis-souri. Born Andrew Walter Reid in Los Angeles on March 19, 1958, He went on to attend Glendale (CA) Junior College (where he was inducted into that school's Hall of Fame in 2003) before matriculating to Brigham Young University where he earned both a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in professional leadership in physical educa-tion and athletics. It was at a physical education class at BYU that Reid

met the woman who would become his wife, Tammy. Reid con-verted to the Mormon faith in 1979 which Tammy and her fam-ily had practiced. They have five children, each of whom was born in a different state -- sons Garrett, 23 (4/13/83); Britt, 21 (4/28/85); and Spencer, 14 (6/16/92); and daughters Crosby, 18 (3/17/88); and Drew Ann, 16 (3/9/90). In his 14-year NFL coaching career, his teams have made the playoffs 11 times (16-10 record). He has coached in the Super Bowl three times and in the NFC Championship game seven times.
