2007 is here. The staffand I are very excitedabout what the newyear will bring. Onething that excites me isthe new faces joining usat the Pointe.
We’ve introducedTravis Hogan as ournew golf course super-intendent earlier. We already see newideas being implemented and look formore improvements over the comingyear.
Kate Kammler, a College of the
Ozarks graduate, has a masters degreefrom Southern Illinois University. Katehas great ideas and is an excellent addi-tion to our staff.
Alfonzo Rivera is not new to our staffbut this will be Fonz’s first full year asCondo Superintendent. Fonz brings un-bridled energy to the job and has an ag-gressive plan for scheduled upgrades forcondos during 2007.
We have two new faces in the office.Jan Brock is our receptionist. Jan is greatin this position and is the person you willtalk to when needing assistance. RuthBabriel is our accounts payable special-ist. She brings experience and a good workethic to this position. A somewhat newface in the office is Khristine Phillips.Khristine has moved from being the re-ceptionist to our accounts receivable spe-
cialist. Khristine will assist you with allaccount inquiries.
I want to make sure that you checkour newly designed website atpointeroyalegolfvillage.com. It has anall new design and updated in a muchimproved format. You may now accessany of the Pointe Royale associationsand, with a security password, view fi-nancial documents, association min-utes, and the Pointe Royale News. Thesite permits printing of documents andforms as may be needed by associationmembers. The site has a great new look.Be sure to take time to see how it works!
2007 will be a great year at PointeRoyale. Please do your part by follow-ing association rules and regulations, especially the 25 m.p.h. speed limit andthe stop signs.
New Website To AidOwners and Residents
Anyone with a computer and a littletime should go to the newly designedPointe Royale website.
The new website, designed by StevePierce, is all new with great graphicsand an easy to follow format. It is es-pecially designed to tell about thePointe while providing information andaccess for owners.
Bud Evans, Pointe Royale generalmanager, has been working on the con-cept for several months. His desire wasto have a website that promoted thePointe and, at the same time, provideda way to communicate with owners andresidents.
Computers, and the internet, arequickly becoming the accepted com-munication link for the entire world. In-formation and data travels to the homein many ways, but none more effi-ciently that through the internet.
It is important that Pointe Royale berepresented on the World Wide Web asit promotes the community and it’s fa-cilities by creating desire and demandwhich helps maintain property values.
It is also important to communicatewith those who own and live at thePointe. While the newsletter serves as

a communication avenue, the websitegives immediate access to the officewith new information and the paper-work necessary to carry on business asan owner.
With new elements coming in the fu-ture, the site will be home to everyoneneeding access to the Pointe. Evanshopes the site will be visited weeklyby those with Pointe interests since itwill be updated weekly and daily asnecessary.
Starting with this issue, the PointeRoyale News will be available directlyfrom the website by following themember links using your passwordavailable through the office. The“News” will be available for readingon-line or printed out in your home us-ing Adobe Acrobat Reader already in-stalled on most computers.
Association minutes will also beavailable to download in an “Unap-proved” version with voted approvalcoming at the next association meet-ing.
Also available will be member formsavailable for carrying on business withthe office.

Unauthorized Useof PR FacilitiesCreate ConcernPOA Addresses Problem
Concern seemed to mount during theJanuary meeting of the Pointe RoyaleOwners Association as discussion turnedto the use of PR facilities by those unau-thorized to be in Pointe Royale.
Over time, 12,000 gate pass cards andelectronic openers have been issued toowners and those authorized to enterPointe Royale.
Now, many of those are no longer au-thorized to be on the property but still en-ter the Pointe and use the facilities. On ahot summer day, many find the tempta-tion to use the swimming pool and hot tubirresistible. Others find the exercise equip-ment great for trimming those extrapounds. While many drive around for aleisurely look at the beautiful homes offamous personalities and entertainers, oth-ers come to play tennis or use the indoorpool. Some even drive in to fish at the“honey hole.”
It doesn’t matter what the reason fortheir being on private property, they areillegally trespassing. Members find them-selves paying to support the unauthorizeduse of the facilities while security is some-
what demished by their continued entry. The problem is compounded by the au-
thorized entry of those wishing to playgolf, attend meetings in the clubhouse ordine in the restaurant. Contractors andmaintenance workers add even more con-cern.
During discussion concerning a newsecurity system to monitor the swimmingpool and exercise facilities, membersvoiced their concern about safety and therisk of having unauthorized people onproperty. One mother voiced her concernas she said, “if spending $40,000 makesone child safer or one mother more se-cure, it is worth the money.” Adding,“having a sense of being safe and securecannot be assigned a value. If we turn onepredator away or keep one molester outof the Pointe, we have provided the verysecurity we depended on when we boughtour property.”

We just had the firstof four quarterly Prop-erty Owners Associa-tion meetings sched-uled for this year. At-tendance was verygood. Subjects dis-
cussed were new security rules andnecessary employment and proce-dures to make Pointe Royale a saferplace to live.
2006 was a good year for the golfcourse and the Property Owners As-sociation. There were more than27,000 rounds of golf played withforty percent of that play by prop-erty owners. We had approximately$20,000 remaining in the budget af-ter reducing the irrigation note by$62,000. If 2007 golf play equals thispast year, we hope to approach thecomplete payoff of that note.
We will soon be deactivating allgate cards and remote openers in or-der to retrieve and eliminate all un-authorized gate passes. We ask thatyou be patient during this process. Our goal is to keep Pointe Royalesafe and secure.
The new Pointe Royale website isup and running. Members will soonbe able to go to the member sectionand retrieve newsletters, minutes ofassociation meetings and the calen-dar of events. Call the office to getyour member password.
As you can see, our newsletter isevolving. We hope this edition willbe even better and published on amore regular basis.
We always need individuals toserve and work on our committees. If you have particular interests ortalents, we invite you to become in-volved in one of the many commit-tees serving the Pointe. This is yourchance to make a contribution to thecommunity and keep it a place wecan all be proud of.
I would like to encourage every-one to attend our events during theyear. This will give you a chance tomeet your neighbors and make newfriends living at Pointe Royale.

Winter bring first big snow
By Don Droke
With all the leaves gone and the grasspale brown, everyone knows winter ishere. But until now, there hasn’t beenmuch snow. No one was complaining, butwinter isn’t complete without snow.
Beautiful soft, fluffy snow started fall-ing on the last day of January and ush-ered in an all white Pointe Royale for Feb-ruary.
Not many have been playing golf withthe temperatures staying in the thirties andforties although there have been a few“toughies” out playing. They are the “die-hards” and the exception.
Winter takes on a slower pace at thePointe with the pool covered and the deckchairs and tables resting along the fence.Dogs out for a walk even have time tobark and chase after the squirrels since noone seems concerned about being in ahurry.
Of course, the indoor pool is open withsteamy warm water just waiting for aquick swim and the exercise room is wait-ing with good equipment ideal for taking
off a quick few pounds or firming up af-ter the holiday feasts.
The fun part of winter is joining the gangfor the scheduled activities in the club-house. If you haven’t dropped by for gamenight, you have missed a real treat. Maybeyou should learn how to play bunco orjoin the ladies for bridge on Wednesdays.
Don’t miss the Country Line Dancingfun on Wednesday evening. It’s lots of funand good exercise. Be sure to bring your
friends. Why not take a break for a quick bite to
eat and a great cup of coffee at Danna’sGrill? We’ll be there.
Wintertime is a great time for just “plainole catchin’ up” and taking it easy.Let it Snow. Let it Snow.
Snow covers the outdoor pool and rec area but the water iswarm and inviting at the indoor pool.
The Pointe Royale Clubhouse appears as a winter wonderland as snow covers everything in a blanket of white.

Pointe Royale is agreat place to live butit is also a great placeto play and get togetherfor meetings and greatdining.
It is important topresent the facilities tothe general public so
that the Pointe can benefit from their pay-ing to use the facilities.
This use by the public raises securityconcerns and the Property Owners Asso-ciation has been working hard on waysto better preserve the secure life style ofthe Pointe and still benefit from othersusing the great amenities.
The staff has been working hard to raisethe quality of play for those using the golfcourse. Many have commented about thecourse and how nice it looked last year.We hope those golfers visit again andbring others with them when they return. We also hope they relax and enjoy a biteto eat before they leave.
Marketing Pointe Royale as a vacationdestination fits right into the convenienceappreciated by vacationing families.

New Golf CourseSuperintendent Takes Charge
Employee Profile
Travis Hogan
Everyone who plays golf dreams aboutplaying with the best at Pebble Beach orSpyglass. Each, very famous coursesknown for their spectacular beauty andworld famous reputation.
It’s one thing to play such great courses, but still another to work at each as assis-tant grounds keeper. It’s the kind of jobthat most golfers only dream about. Theyare great courses and considered as showplaces for the world of golf.
Working at such famous golf coursesprovides experience and knowledgegained only by the best in the world. Onlyseasoned pro’s can imagine this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. All this great ex-perience has now come home to PointeRoyale.
Travis Hogan, the new Pointe RoyaleGolf Course Superintendent, has playedand worked at the best.
A rabid golf enthusiast, Hogan grew upon the golf course in Ironton, Missouri. While growing up, he lived only 130 yardsfrom a course green. He would stand inthe back yard, hitting a 4 iron by the hour, sometimes to the nearby green. His firstclub was a driver and he used it for every-thing. He hated waiting for his dad to gethome after work so at ten years old hestarted playing on his own. He would pulla cart and play 45 holes on most days “Igrew up with golf and always loved it,”said Hogan.
He never thought about being a profes-sional golfer, but in high school wantedto play golf in college and then be a clubpro. While working on a course inFarmington, Missiouri, Hogan realized hedidn’t like being inside all the time andliked the idea of working outside on thecourse. He found himself working so hecould play golf.
It wasn’t long until Hogan secured aplace on a college golf team. Shortly there-after he received a call inviting him towork with the Sports Sod Superintendentat Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kan-sas City Chiefs.
After working at Arrowhead four years,he received the invitation of a lifetimewhen offered an internship at the worldfamous Pebble Beach Golf Course. Heturned it down, but when offered the jobfor the second time, realized this was a
career move he couldn’t turn down andmade the move to California.
After working at Pebble Beach, heworked at the beautiful Spyglass Course. All the while learning the secrets of verysuccessful course superintendents.
It didn’t take long for the “country boy”from Missouri to miss the slower paceback home and wanted to get away from
the high cost of living in California. Afterworking at two of the most beautiful, andwell known, golf courses in the world, hefelt ready to take on his own course asSuperintendent.
That chance came when he was hired asGolf Course Superintendent at theSullivan, Missouri golf course. Althoughhe enjoyed the work, he missed the watersports of California and came to Bransonto check out opportunities at two golfcourses. Finding out about the vacancy atPointe Royale, he interviewed for the job.
Getting the Pointe Royale job meant
leaving his wife, Vanessa, and their elevenmonth old daughter, Ella Grace, back inSullivan. Vanessa is a first grade teacherand won’t move until June. She is excitedabout the move since they will be closeto the lake while Travis works at a coursehe is so proud of.
Travis plays golf and appreciates play-ing because he gets a feel for the course.
A good course needs to feelgood to the golfer. He wants toknow how the greens are roll-ing. How dry the fairways areand how hard the bunkers are.Playing the course lets himknow first hand what is happen-ing with the course.
Travis likes giving special at-tention to small details. He likeshaving clean cups on the green. He likes flags that are fresh andnew. He likes the green to rollgood and look great. After all, most golfers judge the entirecourse by the greens.
Hogan is competitive and ev-eryone around him knows that.He said, “my fight is alwaysagainst mother nature, I’m al-ways concerned about what’sbest for the golfer and the golfcourse.” Adding, “I look at thebad things first, then considerthe overall picture next.”
“I play at work,” he said, whiletalking about the importance ofstaying in tune with the courseand loving what he does.
I hope to save money for thePointe by introducing a newwatering schedule designed to
actually give the course what it needs in-stead of what everyone thinks it needs.
Hogan has great ideas for the Pointecourse, but it all takes time. The coursegets lots of praise but needs plenty ofwork. He can’t wait to see the courseevolve into what he visualizes. He envi-sions bringing college golfers to thecourse as interns so he can share what hehas learned with others and they, in turn, can benefit from his experiences learnedfrom some of the greatest Superintendentsin the world.

Wintertime Golf
Working onthe full swingExcepts fromPaul Wilson’sWinter Golf
Cold weather lay off will certainlyeffect your full swing and needs a littletune up before hitting the course for aquick round on a nice day.
Making a great swing requires youto coil and uncoil your body properly. This action takes effort. After takingtime off of this game, you will want tohit the ball the easiest way possible. This means you will probably try tohit the ball with your arms as opposedto coiling and uncoiling your body.
To keep your body coiling and un-coiling properly, just take one of yourclubs, a broom stick or a weight lift-ing bar (no weights) and hold the endsof the object as you place it across yourshoulders. Then, take your set up po-sition. From here, simply coil theshoulders back in a circular, clockwisemotion, while resisting your hip turn.Once you are tightly wound up, un-coil in a counter clockwise directionby turning the lower body the otherway.
If you do this drill properly, the ob-ject on your shoulders will resemblethe twirling blades of a helicopter. Ifyour club is moving in an up and downsee saw action, you are not coiling anduncoiling properly.
Just remember to make sure that youmimic the helicopter blades and get thetight feeling as you coil back. If youdo, you will maintain the proper coil-ing and uncoiling of your body so thatyou won't just try to hit the ball withyour arms.

Report from theHorticulturistBy Kate KammlerPointe Royale Horticulturist
I will start my first column by telling alittle about myself.
I received a BS from College of theOzarks in horticulture and a Masters fromSouthern Illinois University in plant andsoil science. I am a “jack of all trades,”
having a little experiencein about every aspect ofhorticulture. During thelast three years I haveworked in fruit and veg-etable production.
During the last twomonths I have been find-ing my way aroundPointe Royale. This hasbeen a learning experi-
ence as I am new to the world of golf.My exposure to the golf course began
with me becoming familiar with the lay-out while cleaning out the flower beds. Then the fun began with plotting and plan-ning what would be planted in the bedsthis spring.
I always look forward to new seed cata-logs since it is a sure sign that spring isjust around the corner. This time of yeardoesn’t place to much demand on the hor-ticulture side of Pointe Royale and thegolf course, so I have joined the crewworking on the course. There is no betterway to learn and understand the workingsof a golf course than to get hands-on ex-perience.
Next month, I will be starting cannas inthe greenhouse in order to get a head starton spring planting. Bed preparation willbegin mid March with the first beddingplants from C of O arriving around April15, weather permitting.
I look forward to meeting everyone atthe Pointe and urge you to call if you haveany horticulture questions.

This is the first of several notices youwill be receiving over the next few monthsregarding security at Pointe Royale. Weall agree that security at the Pointe affectsour property values the same as golf andall of the other amenities. We also believeyou will agree that security at Pointe Roy-ale is not at the level it should be.
In order to have adequate security at thePointe it will take the cooperation of ALLowners whether they live here full timeor only visit. It is our desire to make ac-cess in and out of The Pointe as easy aspossible for our owners and long-term les-sees.
The first step to gaining control overwho enters into the Pointe is to make sureall gate cards and automatic openers be-ing used are authorized passes issued toowners or long-term lessees. To accom-plish this it will be necessary in the nearfuture for all gate access devices to be shutoff and reregistered to stop the use of thosethat have been stolen, misplaced, givento others or retained by previous ownersor long-term lessees. More detailed infor-mation will be forth coming on how andwhen this will be handled.
All non-owners (commercial or emer-gency vehicles, visitors to the golf courseor restaurant, guests of owners or long-term lessees), or unregistered long-termlessees or nightly renters will be using theLEFT entrance and will be required to pro-vide certain information to the guard andgiven a daily gate pass to display whileinside the Pointe.
Also, as part of the security improve-ments, the Pointe Policies, Rules, andRegulations will be more closely fol-lowed. Each property owner received anupdated version of the Policies, Rules andRegulations in the packet for the annualmeeting. It would be good for each of usto become more familiar with these ar-ticles.
Some of the changes that will be madeare as follows:
*The free Branson-Daily Independentpaper will only be available at the Club-house.
*All owners and long-term lessees witha gate card or automatic opener need touse the RIGHT entrance.
*Any owner or long-term lessee usingthe LEFT entrance must have their win-dow sticker visible and will be requiredto provide sufficient information to estab-

lish identity and residency.*All visitors will be required to give
drivers name, destination (includingowner or long-term lessees name and ad-dress), license number, and make of ve-hicle.
* Owners will be required to registerwith the gate house, all contractors whowill require regular entry into the Pointe(i.e. yard, pool, etc.) For other contrac-tors, the owner will need to advise the gatehouse as to the day that they will be com-ing through.
*All nightly renters will be required tohave a mirror tag completed when theyarrive at the gate.
Security after 8:00 PM will be tighterthan during the day. Visitors will be re-quired to show identification and justify

their entering into the Pointe. It is pos-sible that the right gate will be closed11:00 PM until 5:00 AM.
The ultimate objective is to have totalcontrol and security over the Pointe (frontgate, pools, and fitness facility) with oneaccess device. To accomplish this, a newaccess system is being considered. Shouldthis system be adapted, it would not benecessary to reregister the current gatedevices. You will be hearing more aboutthis as information becomes available.
If you have any questions or commentsplease contact the POA office or attendthe next board meeting and voice yourconcerns.

They call 911 while frantically fight-ing to get their daughter, Stephanie, andher baby out of the house.
It didn’t take long for the fire trucksand emergency personnel to arrive butthe fire had already spread throughoutthe upper story of the home. Almostimmediately fire could be seen shoot-ing through the roof.
Everyone was amazed at how rapidlythe fire was spreading and how fast ev-erything was going up in flames.
With the fire extinguished, Tim hadtime to recall the frightening night by
saying, “We are so blessed. No one washurt and we know God had his hand onour lives that night.”
Tim and Carole want to personallythank all those in Pointe Royale for theirprayers and offers of help. “It’s duringa time such as this that we realize howimportant it is to be surrounded byfriends and neighbors like we have athe Pointe.”
Happy Blessed New Year to all.
A dozen or so Pointe Royale neigh-bors got together for a great time ofChristmas Caroling. It was suggestedthat we sing to folks who were shut-in, unable to get out or just needed abit of joyful noise.
It was hard to determine who wasmore blessed, the “givers” or the “re-ceivers” as everyone had such a goodtime and we all felt so good doing it.
We would like to send a special“thank you” to Jerry and Nancy fororganizing the time together.
We apologize if we missed anyoneand look forward to doing it againnext Christmas and hope lots ofpeople join in the rewarding holidayfun.
Be sure to watch the Pointe Newsfor more “spare of the moment” funthings we hope to do this year. Don’tmiss out on the blessing!

Al’s favorite fishin’ place
I hope you are enjoying the New Year.During December, and part of January, thefishing on Taneycomo has been back tonormal. I want to talk a little about fish-ing in December. On Saturday December9 my neighbor Ron Lilley caught 25 rain-bow trout on an oliveleech near the walk-way. That same dayMickey Scullawlcaught about 50 rain-bow trout at the riffleon a scud. On SundayDecember 10, I caughtsomewhere between 25to 30 rainbow trout ona copper dun midgesize #20. The fish Icaught were healthyand full of spunk. OnMonday December 11,I caught 25 rainbowtrout on a copper dunmidge size #20. Bothdays were overcast and unseasonablywarm.
December 13 was sunny with tempera-tures in the low 60’s with a few highclouds, what a great day for December. Ithought it would be a good day to use thecopper dun midge size #20 as my mainfly and the primrose midge size #20 asmy dropper. I caught 33 rainbow troutmostly on the primrose midge.
The next day, when I arrived, the lakewas dropping. I started fishing at the rifflewith a brassie, and caught 9 fish. Whenthe lake had stabilized, I changed over to
a black soft hackle and caught 16 rain-bow trout. When the trout quit hitting thesoft hackle, I changed over to the droppersystem. My main fly was a copper dunmidge size #20 and my dropper was aprimrose midge size #20. I caught 7 trout
mostly on the copper dun midge. It was sunny with high clouds andwest winds with temperatures inthe 60’s It was just a great day tobe out fishing.
On December 17, Pointe resi-dent, Irv Miller, caught and re-leased 40 rainbow trout on a cop-per dun midge in an hour. Thisgives you some idea how goodTaneycomo was fishing in Decem-ber. Each day that I fished I caughtbetween 25 to 50 fish. Some daysit was slow, butoverall fishingwas good.
Over the Christ-mas Holidays I
took my wife Patricia andAudrey Myhre a residentof the Pointe fly fishing.Audrey is just learning tofly fish and it wasAudrey’s first time to fishat the Pointe. When wefirst arrived, the waterwas flat, “no current.” Itwas a good time to prac-tice some casting. Whilecasting I could see fishbeing caught at the riffleso we moved to the riffle.
Once at the riffle Patricia caught the firstfish on a soft hackle. Fishing was slow, but once the current picked up, so did thefishing. Patricia and Audrey were fishingsoft hackles and catching trout faster thanI could release them. Both caught over 10fish each until we lost the current. Thewater went flat and so did the fishing. Itwas a blast seeing both women having funcatching the trout. The reason I havetalked so much about December is be-cause the number of fish being caught wasso good. It was great seeing all of thosetrout being caught after such a slow sum-mer.
Taneycomo has fished very well rightinto 2007 although there has been plentyof generation even before the ice storm. When the generators have been off I havebeen able to catch 30 + fish per day. Somedays are slower than others, but if you canget out and fish with two or less genera-tors running you should be able to catchtrout. After the ice storm, all four of thegenerators have been running day andnight.

Fish for trout with a fly rodand tie your own flies.
I look for this schedule to continue un-til Beaver Lake and Table Rock Lake getback to normal pool. I hope we will getback to wade fishing by the end of Janu-ary or sooner.
I want to congratulate Bill and BarbPhillips for catching and releasing over2000 trout last year here at the Pointe.Great job!
Some of the hot flies in December weremidges in all colors. Black and olive softhackles, yellowcrackle backswith furnacehackle, stream-ers, scuds, blackWD-40s, dam-sels and dryflies.
January is an-other story. Most of the fishI have caughthere at thePointe havebeen on midges.Once the water recedes I am looking for-ward to getting out to see what flies thetrout will take.
Until next month, hope you are able toget out and fish. Lets get our kids andgrandkids off of the computer and intro-duce them to the great sport of fly fish-ing.

Making Room For GrassBig Oaks Fall
Sometimes things must fall so some-thing else can go up. That’s the way itis when grass won’t grow because treesare in the way
Trees on hole #1 had prevented grassfrom growing and always kept theground and cart path unsightly. “It hasnever looked nice around the first teebox,” said Bud Evans, general man-ager.
Many golfers form their attitudeabout the entire course by their firstimage of the course. This is usually dur-ing the start of play. The first tee had
nothing butbare groundand tree limbslaying allaround. Not apretty sightfor such ab e a u t i f u lcourse.
Removingthe trees isonly the firststep in remod-eling the first tee-box. Plans are to flat-ten the tee and eventually replace thedegrading area. Bermuda grass will beplanted and beautiful floral displays willdominate the area.
“This is something that needed atten-tion for a long time. We are taking aclose look at the entire course, trying tofind ways to improve the appearanceand bring more golfers,” added Evans.
“Winter time is ideal for tackling someof our major concerns and we hope folkswill appreciate our effort,” said TravisHogan, golf course superintendent.

Professional, Certified Lawn CareSpecialists Provide Services toPointe Royale Properties
By Don Droke
Green Side Up Lawn Care
It’s not often that property owners atPointe Royale get the chance to have cer-tified professionals care for their lawn andflowers, especially at an affordable price.Usually these professionals are limited toproviding services to large companieswith big budgets.
A team of trained professional lawn carespecialists have formed a company withspecial emphasis onserving individualproperty owners inexclusive residentialareas.
Green Side UpLawn Care, ownedby Brad Newmanand A. J. Panter II isjoined by Susan Fos-ter in offering prop-erty owners a greatway to benefit fromthe experience oftrained professionals and, at the sametime, enhance the value of their propertyby having a beautiful, well kept lawn allyear round.
In talking to A.J, he said, “it’s one thingto get your grass mowed, but it’s anotherthing to have it prepared to look goodbefore it comes time to have it mowed.”He was referring to the need to have thesoil tested, then prepared to grow grassand colorful plants with a carefullyplanned growing and planting schedule.“No lawn looks great by chance. It takesmore than water to have a beautiful yard.”Brad commented, adding “why spendthousands of dollars on a beautiful home, then fail to finish it with a beautiful yardthat everyone sees? Every home andowner is judged by their yard.”
A.J. Panter II is a Certified Golf CourseSuperintendent with years of experience.Susan Foster has a C of O degree in hor-ticulture and specializes in floral presen-tation and well known for her beautifulcolor displays. Brad Newman, Agrono-mist, is a lawn care specialist and a gradu-ate of Kansas State University in Horti-culture with special emphasis on turf grassmanagement. Green Side Up Lawn Care
is run and managed by professionals edu-cated in their respective fields to give youthe very best in yard care.
Their services are exceptional, yet theirfees are, many times, more reasonablethan those who only provide lawn mow-ing services. “We do much more thanmow your grass. We actually provide carefor your yard.” said Brad.
All three members of GreenSide Up are former employ-ees of Pointe Royale. A.Jserved as Golf Course Super-intendent, joined by Brad,A.J.’s assistant while Susanworked in ground mainte-nance where she planned andpresented colorful floral dis-plays all year round. Neverbefore has such an experi-enced group of professionalsoffered their services to theresidents of Pointe Royale.

WebMD saysthat regular physi-cal activity is animportant part ofeffective weightcontrol. It helps tocontrol yourweight by usingexcess caloriesthat otherwisewould be stored asfat. Exercise alsohelps preventmany diseases and improve your overallhealth.
Your weight is determined by the num-ber of calories you eat each day minuswhat your body uses. Everything you eatcontains calories, and everything you douses calories, including sleeping, breath-ing, and digesting food. Any physical ac-tivity in addition to what you normally dowill burn those extra calories.
Balancing the number of calories youexpend through exercise and physical ac-tivity with the calories you eat will helpyou achieve your desired weight. The keyto successful weight control and improvedoverall health is making physical activitya part of your daily routine.
What Are the Health Benefits of Ex-ercise? Research consistently shows thatregular exercise, combined with healthyeating, is the most efficient and healthfulway to control your weight.
In addition to helping to control yourweight, research shows that regular physi-cal activity can reduce your risk for sev-eral diseases and conditions and improveyour overall quality of life. Regular exer-cise can help prevent:
* Heart disease and stroke. Dailyphysical activity can help prevent heartdisease and stroke by strengthening yourheart muscle, lowering your blood pres-sure, raising your HDL ("good" choles-terol) and lowering LDL cholesterol("bad" cholesterol), improving blood flow, and increasing your heart's working ca-pacity.
* High blood pressure. Regular ex-ercise reduces blood pressure in peoplewith high blood pressure (hypertension).
* Diabetes. By reducing body fat, physical activity can help to prevent andcontrol type 2 diabetes.
* Back pain. By increasing musclestrength and endurance and improvingflexibility and posture, regular exercisecan prevent back pain.
* Osteoporosis. Regular weight-bear-ing exercise promotes bone formation andmay prevent many forms of bone loss as-sociated with aging.
Regular physical activity can also im-prove mood and the way you feel aboutyourself. Exercise is likely to reduce de-pression and anxiety and help you to bet-ter manage stress.
What Type of Exercise Is Best? It doesnot matter what type of physical activityyou perform -- sports, walking, plannedexercise, household chores, yard work, orwork-related tasks -- all are beneficial.
To determine the best type of exerciseprogram for you, talk to your doctor or acertified athletic trainer.
How Much Exercise Should I Do?Studies show that even the most inactivepeople can gain significant health benefitsif they accumulate just 30 minutes or moreof physical activity per day.
For the greatest overall health benefits, experts suggest 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise (see below)most days of the week plus some form ofanaerobic exercise such as musclestrengthening activity and stretching atleast two to three times a week.
If you have been inactive for a while, you may want to start with less strenuousactivities such as walking or swimmingat a comfortable pace. Beginning at a slowpace will allow you to become physicallyfit without straining your body. Once youare in better shape, you can gradually domore strenuous activity.
What Is Aerobic Exercise? Aerobicexercise is any activity involving largemuscles, done for an extended period oftime, that makes the heart and lungs workharder. Aerobic exercise can be done forweight loss, but it also provides cardio-vascular benefits. Examples of aerobicexercise include walking, biking, jogging, swimming, aerobic classes and cross-country skiing. What are Moderate-Intensity Activi-ties?
Moderate-intensity activities includesome of the things you may already be
doing during a day or week, such as gar-dening and housework. These activitiescan be done in short spurts -- 10 minuteshere, 8 minutes there. Alone, each actiondoes not have a great effect on your health, but regularly accumulating 30 minutes ofactivity over the course of the day canresult in substantial health benefits.
To become more active throughout yourday, take advantage of any chance to getup and move around. Here are some ex-amples:
*Take a short walk around the block.* Rake leaves.* Play actively with the kids.* Walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator.* Mow the lawn.* Take an activity break -- get up and stretch or walk around.* Park your car a little farther away from your destination and walk the extra distance.
The point is not to make physical activ-ity an unwelcome chore, but to make themost of the opportunities you have to beactive.
Pointe Royale provides many optionsfor exercise during cold weather. Exerciseequipment in the clubhouse is great forindoor workouts. Swimming in the indoorpool offers some of the best exercise avail-able. Hiking on scenic trails, line danc-ing, golf, walking, jogging, basketball, tennis and yogi are all good forms of ex-ercise.
Before starting any exercise program, besure to talk with your doctor. He or shecan offer suggestions about which type ofprogram would be best for you.
