Football Coach Announcement

Sylmar Charter High School is proud to announce that Mr. Cerone Woods has been named the Head Coach of the Spartan Football Program. Coach Woods is a long-time football coach in both high school and college programs. Coach Woods began his coaching career at Alexander Hamilton High School in 2008 where he coached Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs. In his second year they won the LA City Section Division II Championship. Coach Woods will be starting his first year at Sylmar Charter High School after serving two years as the Co-Offensive Line/ Tight Ends Coach at East Los Angeles College. During his two years, ELAC broke several national and school records offensively, finishing in the top 25 Junior College national rankings. Coach Woods was also the Defensive Coordinator at View Park High School in Los Angeles which boasted one of the top ranked scoring defenses in the CIF LA City Section during the 2017 season. Coach Woods’ mission at Sylmar Charter High School is to develop young men of high character and integrity. He will create an atmosphere of pride within a culture already rich in tradition and greatness. Coach Woods has 10 years of coaching and 17 years of playing experience and is looking forward to the challenge of returning the Sylmar Spartans back to the top of the LA City Section.

Coach Woods is committed to developing a strong team identity and honoring the legacy of the Spartan Football Program. His goal is to motivate student athletes to push themselves both academically and physically and build upon the foundational belief that our students can and will do their absolute best if given the guidance and motivation they need. His favorite quote is:

Coach Woods is a proud graduate of California State University, Dominguez Hills and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology as well as an Associate’s Degree in General Education from West Los Angeles College. Coach Woods already knows many of the coaches at local colleges and looks forward to strengthening the relationships in order to highlight our athletes. He has already begun to assemble a staff and put the off-season plans together.

Coach Woods plans to hit the ground running with the intent to meet with student-athletes and

parents at a Meet & Greet at Sylmar Charter High School in Spartan Hall on Tuesday, March 20,

2018.
