4 YEAR OLD REPORT 3 YEAR OLD REPORT

There have been lots of different art experiences on offer over the last few weeks and many children have enjoyed using the wider variety of materials on offer including collage materials and paint scrapers and rollers etc. There has also been lots of negot iat ion and cooperat ive play amongst the children as they work on floor puzzles and other projects together. The Eastmont Supermarket is very popular as the children take turns loading up their shopping trolleys before taking them to the check out where they pay for their groceries. Afterwards the children restock the shelves ready for the next customers.

Tanya from Deakin University has been complet ing her final placement as part of her Masters in Early Childhood and has also planned lots of fun and interest ing experiences with the children. In pairs, the children have been using their fingers to trace a pattern on their partners back as we all say the X Marks the Spot rhyme together. We have been pract icing some short songs to sing at the 50th Anniversary celebrat ion as well as learning Upsy Down Town and singing along to the Baby Shark song.

With the new raised garden beds donated by the Wantirna Community Bank Branch we have done lots of plant ing including potatoes, beans and sunflowers. The children are keen to water the beds each day and we are eagerly await ing the first sign of shoots emerging in the Spring sunshine.

On the 29th and 30th of August, we held two Father?s Nights at kinder. The dads joined in some fun act ivit ies, singing and dancing with their children.

Reminder: Thursday 20th and Friday 21st September (the last sessions for term 3) will be having Footy Days at kinder.

Sonya Skok

Director

Springtime has finally arrived and we have been busy planting some green bean seeds in one of our new raised garden beds that was purchased using a grant kindly given to us from Wantirna Community Branch Bank. We have been discussing how our seeds need water and warmth from the sun to grow. We will watch with anticipation as they start to shoot.

Our home corner has been transformed into Eastmont supermarket. Trolleys and bags have been loaded to the top with groceries.

There has been a lot of conversation between the children about what they are going to buy before taking their items to the cash registers to purchase their groceries.

A big thank to Erin (Nate?s Mum) and Saminah (Anasz?s Mum) for volunteering their time to facilitate a learning experience with the children during our session. Erin spoke to the children about what her job as a nurse involves and brought in her stethoscope, some bandages, face masks and hospital gowns.

Saminah cooked some mini banana cakes with the children and they each took some home. They were delicious!

We have been busy doing butterfly prints, roller painting at the easels and spot painting with the liquid markers. We have been singing some new songs Inanay and Taba Naba along with some old favourites including Echo song and Open Shut them.

A photographer from Shutterbugs photography came and took photos of the children on Monday and they will return this Thursday to cover all of the children in our group. A proof sheet will be given to families in the coming weeks and you can then order these photos.

50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Eastmont?s 50th Anniversary Celebrat ions were held on Saturday 15th September. Lots of current and past

families turned up to celebrate this amazing milestone ? we est imate that 200+ people turned up throughout

the event. Old class photos and stories were looked at, sausages and amazing cupcakes were eaten and there

were lots of children (and adults) with crazy coloured hair and painted faces walking around. The formal part

of the celebrat ions included farewelling Marie (our past 3yo teacher who ret ired earlier in the year) and

celebrat ing Helen?s 25th anniversary working at Eastmont. The children did a wonderful job singing in front

of a large audience, including Happy Birthday to Eastmont with 50 claps (plus one for good luck). Neil Angus,

MP for Forest Hill, buried the t ime capsule under our scarecrow, Frank, near our vegetable patches. The

impressive giant birthday cake was cut and handed out to finish the event.

Thank you for everyone who turned up to help us celebrate Eastmont?s 50th Anniversary.

It was a great day and we hope everyone had fun!

EASTMONT PRE-SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

At Eastmont Pre-School we offer a play-based, child centred-curriculum that is

guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and the

Early Years Learning Framework. We aim to create a warm, caring, inclusive

environment where children of all abilit ies feel relaxed, supported and happy and

are able to explore, discover, imagine and create.

- We promote respect and care for other children, adults and all living

creatures as well as an appreciat ion of nature and respect for the

environment.

- We respect individual differences and foster an environment in which

each child and educator is supported and valued for the unique strengths

and interests that they bring to the group.

- We provide opportunit ies that encourage and develop, self-esteem, a

posit ive self-image and communicat ion and independence skills.

- We recognise that families are a child?s first and most important educators

and seek to work in collaborat ive partnerships with them to ensure the

best outcome for all children. We welcome and encourage family

involvement in all aspects of our service.

- We value cultural diversity and acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres

Strait Islander people are the tradit ional owners of the land and the

original inhabitants of Australia.

- We recognise that Eastmont Pre-School is part of our local community

and value opportunit ies to contribute to that community.

- We cont inually strive to improve the quality of our service.

CORPORATE GRANTS

A quick update on projects completed with grant funds received.

The children at Eastmont Preschool always enjoy gardening, especially plant ing and harvest ing vegetables and herbs. Thanks to the Wantirna Community Bank®  Branch of the Bendigo Bank for their generous donation which has enabled us to purchase two large raised garden beds and a fantast ic new worm farm. The children all helped plant potatoes, green beans and sunflowers and we are looking forward to watching them sprout and grow over the next few weeks and months. We can now recycle all our organic waste via our compost bin and our new worm farm. This is such an invaluable way for the children to learn about recycling and sustainability first hand.

If anyone did not receive the bank postcards and would like to open a savings account for their children or have any other financial enquires please feel free to contact Wantirna Community Bank®  Branch of Bendigo Bank.

Our Irrigat ion Water Wise Project is now complete just in t ime for summer and again would like to thank

Momentum Energy and Landcare Australia for the grant we received earlier this year. The kids were super keen to dig, invest igate and be a part of the project especially since we had new veggie beds to water. Daily act ivit ies have included educat ion around the topics of water conservat ion, environmental impact and efficient and sustainable water use.

Thank you to Mick McMahon for taking the t ime to help install the irrigat ion and engage with the kids who helped.

Thank you to The City of Whitehorse for the grant to purchase new Outdoor Equipment for balance and gross motor skills development. We hope to have this installed early next term.
