Originally compiled for a limited edition picture disc LP release for Record Store Day 2019, due to fan demand the album is now being made more widely available with this black vinyl LP and digi-pack CD release.

LP is 180g vinyl, half-speed mastered at 33rpm and contains a hi-res download code.

Having always loved the combination of film and music (aged 17 he gave up a place at film school to pursue a career in music) Peter Gabriel’s first opportunity to really marry these twin interests came when he was asked to create the music for Alan Parker’s film ‘Birdy’ in 1985. Further film work, including his music for Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ (that became the album ‘Passion’) and the soundtrack to Philip Noyce’s film ‘Rabbit-Proof Fence’ (released as the album ‘Long Walk Home’), has continued to feed that interest.

Alongside those longer soundtrack commissions Peter Gabriel has also regularly contributed songs to a

diverse range of movies and this compilation explores this other connection forged by Peter

between his music and film. Rated PG is an opportunity to bring together in one

place a selection of songs, be they written especially for, or used

to notable effect in, movies.

In the end, it has to be fun, it has to move us in some way.” With pop chameleons like David Bowie as a their paradigms in terms of eclecticism, WARGIRL are bringing the love, peace and harmony vibe of the late sixties into today. “We don’t fight, we don’t argue, we make music together from a very true place and we do so with spontaneity and passion. We are dancing our asses off when we make these songs in the studio because we are always recording them almost completely live.” This time around, they built their songs around Samantha Parks remarkable, moving, broad vocal range and clever lyrics. “She’s such a great singer that we really wanted to feature that and pull more elements of soul and funk into the sound since she is so naturally comfortable with that.” (Sams father was Bull of “Bull and the Matadors” a well known funk artist in the 70s).

The songs on this album were mixed by genius engineer/producer Mark Neill best known for his producing of Black Keys “Brothers” and Dan Aurbach’s “Keep It Hid”. Wignall states, “He breathed a radical frantic breath of creativity and low end into the tracks, I’ve never heard mixes quite like this before”.

In 1966, when Brian Wilson prepared the follow up to his masterpiece Pet Sounds, he employed the services of Mississippi born Van Dyke Parks as lyricist for The Beach Boys next album, SMiLE. As history would soon docu-ment, SMiLE became the most famous unreleased album in rock history, it’s “completion” not seeing daylight until a Grammy®-award winning box set in 2012. SMiLE’s original plan was to incorporate many different elements of American music in an avant-garde fashion, its musical format leaps and bounds ahead of anything that existed contemporaneously.

As SMiLE quickly grew in legendary terms, Brian and Van Dyke each went their separate musical ways, only to reunite briefly in 1972 for The Beach Boys classic “Sail On Sailor.” So it was perhaps with great apprehension and excitement that these two musical giants should finally reunite in 1994 for some unfinished business. This time, however, the mis-sion would be complete. The musical terrain familiar . . . a paeon to California . . . Omnivore Recordings is very proud to announce the release of the 25th anniversary special edition of Orange Crate Art by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks.

By 1994, the roles had been reversed and it was Van Dyke who coaxed Brian into the studio to be the singer of nearly a dozen new songs he had written as a tribute to his home away from home. Parks writes in the liner notes, “Though my roots are somewhere else, far away, my limbs are here in Southern California . . . it’s here . . . that I

have struggled desperately for a sense of place . . . Orange Crate Art is a continuum of that which stood, freeze-frame, at the release of SMiLE.

Twenty-five years on, this album which sounds like nothing before or since, has been majesti-cally re-mastered by multi-Grammy® award

winner Michael Graves. Available on vinyl for the very first time, the deluxe CD package contains three previously unreleased bonus tracks as well as instrumental track versions of 11 of the album’s songs.

SUMMARY

Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton returns in 2020 with his second solo o�ering, entitled Ether, a primarily acoustic �ve-song EP available now via Rise Records. As with Morton's solo debut, Anesthetic, released in 2019, the guitarist enlisted the talents of various musicians and vocalists to bring his songs to life. Ether features appearances by Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage, Light the Torch), John Carbone (Moon Tooth) and Mark Morales (Sons of Texas). �e EP is made up of three original songs and two covers that once again showcase Morton's diversity as a musician.

OVERVIEW

Music production technology in the 1980s opened doors to new sounds and experiments from producers around the world. By the mid-80s, Jamaican producers who built their name on the live studio sound with a drum and bass foundation, either adopted synthesised drums, full digital drum machines or dropped out of the game. Producer and melodica player Augustus Pablo was a prolific survivor from the ‘classic’ reggae era, released four new studio albums through Greensleeves between 1986 and 1990, demonstrating a new take on classic a sound as the new ‘digital’ era of reggae was taking hold. Collected together here as Ancient Harmonies on two discs are the four albums; Rising Sun, Rockers Comes East, One Step Dub, and Blowing With The Wind. Recorded at Channel One, Tuff Gong, Dynamic, HC&F & Creative Sound with engineers including Scientist, Soldgie, Phillip Smart & Steven Stanley, these new sounds found an audience with the new age sound system culture in Europe.
