Welcome to the October issue of New Product Guide – officially a pumpkin spice latte-free zone (it makes our dots soggy, smudges the print and plays havoc with DAISY players). Otherwise, we’re embracing autumn

and trying not to count the shopping days until Christmas.

This issue comes packed with new products for around the home or adding to gift lists, so there’s no excuse for a last-minute dash on Christmas Eve!

Happy shopping,

New Product GuideChristmas 2018 Editor: Joanna Franks

Welcome to the Christmas issue of New Product Guide! It’s never too early to start planning for Christmas, so grab a cuppa and a biscuit and let us give you some great present ideas.

From brand new products to tried and tested favourites, we’re sure you’ll find something here to treat your friends and family (and maybe yourself, too). Of course, this is only a taste of what we have to offer – head to our online shop to browse the full range of games, technology, watches, mirrors,

lighting, magnifiers … you get the idea!

I’ve already put the reindeer Christmas cards and A4 Big Print diary on my shopping list (and the beautiful new Lux gold Bradley watch on my wish list, in the hope that Father Christmas thinks I’ve been good this year…)

Happy shopping!

Jo

Keep time on your sideWhether you choose our analogue or digital Smartlite alarm clocks, you’ll get a quiet night* and a timely wake-up call.

(*Assuming your children, neighbours and pets keep the noise down.)

Both use innovative Smartlite® technology which enables the clock display to brighten as the surrounding conditions become dark. The darker the room becomes, the more prominent the green light gets, enabling you to always see the time.

Smartlite easy-to-see digital alarm clock

Most of us don’t get brighter as the night gets darker, but this easy-to-see LCD alarm clock does!

This unique easy-to-see LCD alarm clock automatically illuminates the clock display at night time. It also has a large white button located centrally on the top of the clock which, when pressed, lights the clock’s jumbo LCD display.

The crescendo alarm has a snooze function and the time is displayed in 12-hour format with a PM indicator with bold black numbers.

Turn heads in our stylish new eyeshieldsWe’ve added three new frames to our eyeshield range – the Chloe, the Classic and the Elipse – all are high quality, lightweight frames, ideal for everyday use, in place of a wrap-around sunglass-style frame.

Chloe (EH116-EH120) is a lightweight, tortoiseshell lady’s frame; Classic (EH121-EH125) is a durable, black and white, retro-style unisex frame; while Elipse (EH126-EH130) is a unisex brown frame with oval-shaped lenses.

All these fashionable optical-style plastic frames are designed to look and feel good and come with a choice of five different HiView™ filters that provide 100% UVA/UVB and blue light protection (unless otherwise stated).

Because blue light causes glare, reduces contrast and can damage the retina, blue-absorbing HiView™ filters improve visual comfort by reducing glare and increasing contrast while helping to maximise eye protection.

If you need advice choosing the right filter for your eye condition, call MediView on 020 8933 7914 and quote RNIB.

Pick up a braille advent calendar and support 24 charitiesAdvent of Change, which produces an annual charity advent calendar, has added a braille version for 2019.

By buying the calendar, you are making a donation to 24 charities and supporting causes such as helping the homeless, protecting our oceans or helping endangered animals.

The braille calendar comes in a specially-adapted flipbook format, and upon turning over each page, there is text to identify each day – simply locate the tab on the right-hand side of the page and pull to tear open the door and reveal the charity recipient and how your £1 donation could be used. The door can then be left attached, or completely removed.

Advent for Change, a not-for-profit organisation, worked with RNIB to produce this new braille version of the calendar and says that more than 80% of the sale price goes directly to charity.

You can buy the calendar from adventofchange.com and johnlewis.com, priced £29.95.
